Came here to ask for any anime recommendation, say at least 4 yrs recent no more than 26eps. What I’m leaning towards is preferably something pretty lighthearted and in the slice of life/comedy/romance genre but any anime you think is a must see, I’m open to try.
I’ve stopped watching anime regularly for awhile, but I’m bored. Here’s some stuff I’ve recently watched randomly so you get a better understandin’ of what I like/dislike:
Ore no Imouto ga… (like it, waiting on ep.15)
K-on!/!! (reallllllly liked the 1st season)
High School of the Dead (alright, but had a lot of potential to be better)
Claymore (mediocre start, good in the middle, ending fell short imo)
The world God only Knows (fun, enjoyable)
Occult Academy (ok, but unmotivated to finish the last couple eps =/)

your first paragraph describe Hanasaku Iroha perfectly. It’s still airing(on ep 15) but it’ll be 26 eps by the time it’s done.
Absolutely watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica and please watch the whole thing. It’s only 12 episodes so even if you think there’s NO WAY you’ll like it in the first few eps, just finish it.
If you never saw Katanagatari, that is a must watch as well
Step one-watch madoka. Step two-win at life. Ore no Imou was mad fun, glad you enjoyed it. arakawa under the bridge is another great comedy of the recent. I noticed you didn’t list angel beats, so that’s another must watch. It has slice of life, romance, awesome comedy, and it balances itself perfectly with a completely serious and layered plot line without compromising anything. Best of 2010 imo.

Thx a bunch fellas. I’ll prioritize those suggestions by seeing which I can get thru crunchyroll & hulu (guessin none) first, then move to good ol’ torrent.
Watch GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class and Miky Holmes for starters, if you want to go for shorter 12/13 episode series. There’s other reccomendations too, but they go a bit beyond the 26 episode mark. Check the 1st few posts to read up on them, if you want.
Horriblesubs seems to be on the job; ep 1 is out.
can I suggest a good site for you? Go to animea. They have tons of DLs in 720-1080 neatly organized, and updates extremely fast. You won’t have to deal with the hulu adds or pay for crunchyroll.
Ohyeah, GA is also good if you like neatly pakaged slice of life as Aria suggested above. Working is another good one.
Some light-hearted fun shows within last 4 years i’d recommend are:
- Hanasaku Iroha (still airing, but like someone else mentioned, it sounds like it’d be right up your alley)
- Denpa Onna (comedy, slice of life, hints of romance, just recently ended at 12 eps)
- Sket Dance (straight up comedy, still airing)
- Level E (straight up comedy, main character is the biggest troll in anime lol)
- Seitokai Yakuindomo (Dirty jokes and perverted humour galore. But don’t be fooled it’s all in the dialouge with relatively little fanservice. 4koma style comedy, so get ready for machine-gun fired jokes much like a stand-up routine)
- Ika Musume/Squid Girl (straight up comedy, imagine Sgt. Frog except with a Squid Girl instead lol)
- Arakawa Under the Bridge (random and wacky comedy about living under a bridge full of weirdos. Has a little bit of romance)
- Working (comedy, hints of romance)
- Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru (slice of life, comedy)
- Seitokai no Ichizon (comedy/parody that takes the piss out of the bishoujou and ero-game industry kinda like how The World only God Knows does but only more shameless imo lol)
- Kannagi (slice of life, comedy, hints of romance)
Godlike shows/movies/series that are must-watch are:
- Madoka
- Bakemonogatari
- Katanagatari
- Suzumiya Haruhi
- Clannad + After Story
- Summer Wars
- Kara no Kyoukai
- Redline
- Black Lagoon
I highly recommend against “Working!!” because it has the worst character to ever exist.

I recommended Working because outside of this thread, the show and Inami seems to be pretty well-received in general. I hate her as much as the next dude in the thread, but apart from that, the show seems like something he’s pretty much looking for anyway.
