Anime & Manga Thread v.4 FAQ/IRC: See OP. Thread over. Move onto v.5

Complaining on a random forum is just dumb, constructive criticism directed at the fansubbers is at least a step in the right direction, but in the end the only way to really change it for sure is to just do it yourself.

because it’s virtually impossible to find a good amount of dedicated people to dedicate their time under a new group. I’ve tried before with easy school life mangas and what not, and people’s schedules are very inconsistent. So we get like 2 chapters scanned in one day, and none for a week from others who promised to do it. My non-internet friends either aren’t into anime/manga or don’t know japanese, so it’s easier to join a group with reputation already (mostly the ones I have a problem with and change it from the inside), because a new group won’t make it most of the time.

I’m not saying alot of people don’t, but most of the time it’s warranted. Especially if you’re a Kamen Rider fan :frowning:

I miss kamen rider. I’ve only watched it in snippets on tv before moving to the states as a kid, but haven’t watched it in ages. Where’s a good place to start?

Start with Kabuto or W. You could start with Kuuga, but the subs for it suck.

Most of them are subbed by TV-Nihon, what the fuck do you expect? Actually decent subs?
ITT: TV-Nihon sucks, kisama-tachi, enemy-san, I’m gonna violate you

Kabuto is pretty fuckin awesome. I still have to finish W myself.

Kuuga got resubbed and the subs are fucking great. And the Blade subs were done but Nihon at their fucking worse, good lord the second episode was impossible to follow and so much important shit was lazily or just not translated.

Personally I would start with Kuuga or Black. They’re the most new friendly series to get into Hesei and Showa wise. After that I would check out Den-O, W, Black RX, Kabuto, or Ryuki. Wait till someone else subs the first 20 episodes of Blade before you start it. Hibiki is my personal favorite but it’s the most UN KR series out there and unfortunatley they brought on a new writer team for the last half and the quality dropped big time till the last six episodes and the Zanki & Todoroki arc.

Ah. It was re-subbed by Midnight Crew, right?

I need to watch their version.

Yeah I believe it was them.

Those groups don’t want to change man.

Seeing how we’re talking about bad subs/translations man I gotta drop Shitsurauken till someone competent comes along who speaks English as a 1st language.

yeah that manga has some horrible English. It’s almost done though and I get what they’re trying to say so fuck it.

I still can’t get past that dress scene “I shall be the buttoner for your dress you are wearing” that wasn’t even the worse part of chapter 7 just the one I saw first that let me know what was coming.

Watch outside your neighborhood for this beautiful violator!

Serious sub talk going on here.

News to me. Thanks for clearing that up.

imho

i enjoy bad subs a lot better than good subs unless its so bad you cant tell whats going on…it makes me laugh and doesnt detract too much from the action.

as for arguing whether you are allowed to complain about subs…im gonna have to side with master chibby here. you get what you pay for; if you didnt pay anything then you dont get to complain that spirit juice sucks at cooking when he gives you vagina bone flavored cookies. hes still providing an optional service, even if the service is shitty and youre better off not using it. you might think he is a total dick for claiming that the cookies might actually be edible, but all that really happened is you ate one (1) bad cookie and now you know to stay the fuck away from anything spirit juice makes. you haven’t lost anything.

if spirit juice were the only source of cookies then yeah it sucks to be you, learn 2 bake or swear off cookies forever and lose weight. maybe you could even pay him to make things that people would actually want to eat. most likely though someone else will come along and realize that he can get fame and the respect of his fellow man by not doing a shit job and baking cookies.

I liked it but it’s not for everyone. What I enjoyed the most was the animation like Ken said.

I’d just like to point out that the crunchyroll subs really aren’t free, people pay for memberships and companies pay to have their products advertised on the streams, whilst other sub groups it’s a case of “yeah that’s a bit messed up, but it’s free so just be quiet and avoid them unless they are the only ones subbing”, the subbers for crunchyroll really shouldn’t be acting like a free sub group with the /b/tard humour replacing lines and some lines translated as ???, since people are paying for that shit one way or another.

I know horriblesubs exist, but piracy from some getting it free doesn’t make a product that is translated for profit immune to critisism from the rest.

Finally saw Macross Plus. It was a good series, but not something I’d rewatch. The plot was executed well, though it was standard stuff that I’ve seen before. Basically everything in the show was good, it’s just nothing stood out compared to other shows I’ve watched.
