I have been watching some good new ones. One is infinite stratos which is a funny but actiony show about a young man who goes to An all girls school called I.s. Another one is called deadman wonderland a serious action show where people called deadmen can use there blood to fight. The third one is called “c the money and the posibilities it controls” a gambling anime. It
Really focuses on the effects of inflation on an economy.
C turned out weird and totally was not worth watching. Except for Msyu lol
Sure you can complain about it but you look like a complete jackass for doing it.
I mean it’s not as if the subs are illegible or COMPLETELY off base or anything of the sort.
Hell, you don’t really need to download shit anymore either, there’s plenty of sites legally streaming the content.
It’s just really petty, seriously.
It’s not really petty to have standards, even for free stuff. If I baked some cookies that purposely taste like Playdough, started to give them out for free, and someone told me they taste like crap, I’d probably be in the wrong to say “FUCK YOU ASSHOLE! STOP BEING PETTY OVER FREE SHIT!”. I know fansubbing is a thankless job. So is running tournaments. So is video editing and streaming (both of which I’ve gotten into recently). Even then, people will hold you to standards and many expect you to live up to them even if you’re doing it for free.
It’s not unreasonable to not want “vagina bones” in my subs just because one or two people that they were being hilarious as those /b/tards that show up to anime conventions wearing V masks.
Watching anime is a fucking luxury if you’re not paying for it.
Again, you can have standards for it, that being that they aren’t illegible, completely off base, and so on, but anything above that is selfish and petty.
That’s when it falls in line with your ‘cookies tasting like playdough’ point. If you shit into a cookie sheet and put M&M’s on it, yeah I can complain. If you give me chocolate chip cookies with raisins in it and I start complaining about the raisins, well then I look like a childish dick. Sure, I have a right to complain about it, I’m not arguing about that, it just doesn’t amount to much of anything to do so.
There’s a difference between being like “lol these subs are bad, I’ll just watch some good ones instead” or “I can’t wait for a legit release of this shit” and being all “RARRRR WHYYYY DON’T THEY SUB MY FREEEE ENTERTAINMENT CORRECTLYYYYYYYYY GRRRRR”
At the same time, there’s a difference between “I don’t want ‘vagina bones’ in my subs.” and being anal about things not being translated correctly or in a way you don’t think was as accurate as you think it is.
It’s ‘incorrect’ in both instances, it’s still free, and honestly if you can tell past the means of it being accurately translated properly or not, then you don’t need subs to begin with.
Just because something is free doesn’t make it immune from criticisms.
Air is free, it’s the freest thing on earth, yet if someone complains about heavy pollution in the air they breathe, I wouldn’t really tell them to move somewhere else, or call them a princess. The problem I have is about the quality of work in subs, not about whether or not they are free.
I do watch raws, but for something with complicated language like stein’s gate, the viewer is at the mercy of their subbers. So what’s wrong with me being annoyed at being lied to, and getting unnecessary memes thrown in my face. The issue isn’t as simple as free/not. Like someone said up top, people trust in the goodwill of subbers for them to understand their shows from a language that’s otherwise gibberish to them. So when they get shit spat back at them, of course they’d be displeased.
Just want to say, I was there all 4 days and I literally saw only one /b/tard and he was actually getting heckled by the normal fans lol. Outside of that, and that news report, I barely saw any.
and for the record, nothing is free. I don’t believe anyone does any jobs that takes personal effort if it didn’t bring some form of self-satisfaction. Whether it’s for the fame of the sub group, or having the gratification of knowing that you bridge the audiences of two countries together by bringing them their favorite shows. Just because hard materials aren’t in the apparent equation, doesn’t mean there isn’t reciprocity going on (because there always is).
I just like to think that if people want to take subbing up as their personal responsibility, then people should take their responsibility seriously, or don’t do it at all! I won’t care if these people didn’t waste their time and not release if they don’t feel like doing it seriously.
All of us got a “free” education from k-12, where we as kids didn’t pay for any of it. If kids complained about the quality of their education, they shouldn’t be told to shut up because it’s free. That’s just a defeatist way of looking at things. Mannn I’m getting trolled so hard by horriblesubs/crunchyroll/whoever right now XD
So wait it for to be licensed or otherwise and stop fucking watching it.
Go to the fansubbers and tell them to stop being faggots.
You still sound like a petty dick for complaining about it period.
Uh, how is DLing fansubs not free. Even if you didn’t DL them, you’d still be paying for internet to use it another way. DLing fansubs really is monetarily free.
Also, it’s not defeatest, there is no other option so you deal with it, you complain directly to the people causing the problem(and not on an unrelated forum), OR you take it upon yourself to solve it. I personally don’t see it as enough of a problem, nor do I know enough to translate an entire show on my own at this point, so I just deal with it.
As far as commercial releases go, while some do take it to far, it is RARELY that bad. When you translate something you have to think about how the normal audience will take it. It is COMPLETELY understandable that things have to be “localized” and not just “translated” especially since there are plenty of things that don’t translate properly without finding an equivalent. I personally think the best option is to just include notes somewhere, but it makes sense from an entertainment perspective to find something that isn’t so jarring to the experience for MOST people.
I’ve subbed before with a couple groups, but the subbing world doesn’t choose based on accuracy. it is based on an arbitrary system of who is viewed the best fame-wise, or who’s been around the longest, instead of who’s bringing in the best subs. It’s extremely sporadic. When I’m finished with my semesters in Japan and get much better language skills, I will personally try to get into these bad sub groups. But I don’t think accurate subs will be all that welcomed.
Then you start your own shit and give everyone else the middle finger.
I gotta side with KK on this one, yeah subs are free so I can’t complain to much but that doesn’t mean in any way, shape, or form that they are above criticism and complaining them is petty. I’ve had shows ruined due to subbers putting in their own jokes or doing shitty jobs of subbing them KR Kuuga and Blade come to mind. Yeah I plan on learning Japanese soon but until then I’m at their mercy and it’s well within anyones right to complain about shit if they get a bunch of pointless memes thrown into a show they’re trying to watch.
I never said you couldn’t.
I just said that if you do that 99.99% of the time you will like a selfish shithead while doing it.
Hey guys fan subs are usually better than profesbelieve it believe it believe it, believe it.
believe it…
anime has gone to shit except for shojos like Kaicho wa maid sama
I’m watching Initial D all over again
I’m bored
and I hate that pony series why would people watch powerpuff girls with horses
Why the hell would you join a bad sub group instead of just starting you own?
