Great points, I agree with that. But I think overall the quality of any artistic work is not judged by cultural trends, but something more permanent that makes it timeless. I think this is more true about the enjoy-ability of most anime, but not the 1% of anime made that’s drastically different and original.
The most noticeable differences that changed in anime I think are archetypes. Back in the day, people loved the helpless, weak, protagonist hero type that slowly learns and says inspiring things about friendship etc…now that shonens are becoming less defined and less popular, people like MCs that are much darker. I think arrogant prodigy characters like Light and Lelouch kind of reflects the wishes of the current generation of japanese students who are shaped to be competitive by their schools and who are very jaded towards society. Sure genres and character types still get pigeon holed, but overall, in the big picture, I think we see a lot more variation on MCs, and more options are always better than less. Just think about how 2 dimensional MCs were in the old days, and maybe people will realize something.
And also, I’m glad to see the “super shy girl” type slowly die out. I’m not sure what person under the age of 30 is still attracted by this type.

As for blood-C, i am terribly dissapointed in episode 1…as a HUGE fan of the first 2 incarnations of blood, this one is by far the worst of them. I know i shouldnt judge by 1 episode, but i really dont like clamp doing the character design and i dont like this clumsy at day, serious at night saya either…
well…lets hope things improve, as judging by 1 episode is never fair to do.
God damn is Steins;Gate ramping shit up right now. First 11 episodes were like the bait and then at the end of the 12th episode came the switch. While i didn’t necessarily buy into it at first, but now i can very well see Steins;Gate living up to all of its pre-season hype of potentially being the most godlike show of season/year. Good shit Steins;Gate good shit!
Looks like I may have to watch Steins;Gate again and try to get past the green jelly bananas. Too bad I already spoiled myself with what happens in episode twelve. Had I actually been watching the show I probably would’ve been pretty mad when that character died.
Same, I stopped after ep 5. There was a massive spoiler about Mayuri on the front page of Sankaku that ruined my mood, but if it’s that good…
And if im not mistaken, if steins gate has time traveling in it, nothing is safe from being permanent, so maybe it’s not that big of a spoiler.

I still need to finish gosick too. I stopped after ep 12 after realizing that watching more will just make me rage to death. Kujo is the most generic, incapable, childish piece of whiney, boring pile of shit I’ve come across in awhile. And yet people still love their pairing.
Summary of Gosick-Victorique [S]solves mysteries while Kujo repeats the obvious, asks redundant/stupid questions that’s already been answered, and bitches in circles because he can’t understand the slightest hint of emotions.[/S]
