After that car commercial, I don’t think I have it in me to be open-minded about Hatsune Miku anymore. Wonder who her VA is, and if she gets strangled on the regular, with a voice like that.

Huh? I’m guessing you know next to nothing about the program. The singer whose voice was used is NOT a VA. What they do is create a soundbank using a person and then you use the program itself to create vocals. The flat sound of it is just inherent to the program itself. That’s also why I don’t like most of the songs that actually don’t try and do anything interesting with the sound of the voice itself.
This also means that this “concert” won’t have an actual singer there at all, they have some sort of “holographic” display showing the character itself.
The main reason the Vocaloid program is amazing really, is just that it lets any person create songs and have a singer without actually requiring one. There’s tons of awesome non-professional producers that make music and use the vocaloid program for vocals.
You all know this would be the greatest anime of all time.
