Anime & Manga Thread v.4 FAQ/IRC: See OP. Thread over. Move onto v.5

Download peerguardian, nigga.

Oh okay. I just thought if they didn’t censor this, why censor other stuff?

Is PeerGuardian even worth it? All it does is block IPs from a publicly maintained list. If a company wanted to try and track users, they could just do it from an IP they knew wasn’t on PeerGuardian’s list.

I’m interested in it but have the same uh… “concern”, actually. Looks like it could be good.

Horizon might probably have the oddest bunch of side characters I’ve seen in a series of it’s type in recent years. I now wish the show would be centered on them only from the 1st episode already.

I really like how they’re trying to set the Fate/Zero characters and plot in episode 1. Not much action, but there’s substantial stuff for sure.

Tamayura Hitotose was just as good of a slice of life series as the OVAs. Even if you didn’t see them, it’s easy to follow for new viewers considering it’s started with the main character Fuu moving back to her old town (when she already did in the OVAs).

Indeed; really like how everyone is stylish in that end theme.

Gintama 228

Spoiler

Now they’re making fun of Love Plus in this arc; apparently Shinpachi has been addicted to it so much that he lost focus between reality and illusion with his game girlfriend, now Otae wants Gintoki to help him. He gets lectured by Kondo to try to play the game himself to understand how it goes, and gets his girl being some old Japanese actress whose son has died (and still talks.). Eventually, he heads off to a tournament featuring equal sadlifers Toujo (with his girl being the old lady in Kyuubei’s clothes), Sa-chan (same old woman, with Gintoki’s outfit) and Okita, who steals Kondo’s girl and treats her like a slave. Cliffhanger happens with Shinpachi shows up with his girl…looking abnormally stylish in wedding clothes. Looks like we got some serious(ly funny) stuff happening.

Can I get some suggestions for anime shows/movies that me (20 yo, male) and my niece (6 yo, female) can enjoy together? I’d prefer for them to not be overtly kiddie but at the same time avoiding nudity and grotesque violence. My niece is mature for her age and can handle more complex themes, so you don’t need to suggest simplistic works. Thanks in advance if you reply.

Perhaps some Miyazaki films would be up your alley? But I’m probably one of the worst people to ask for when it comes to anime.

Already showed her all of those.

Perhaps Last Exile would be about right, from what I remember it was pretty good and I can’t remember it having much to any gore or service.

Mahoraba ~Heartful days~
Light-hearted comedy show about an aspiring picture book writer who moves into a new apartment lodging run by his cousin. All the tenants there have there own little fun quirks but the biggest quirk belongs to the landlady cousin. Very underrated and under-appreciated show imo, but it’ll always be one of my all time favourites.

Bamboo Blade might also be good. Comedy and slice of life type show revloving around a high school Kendo Club. Funimation even has the episodes up on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aw0tCekaaKc

All i can think of right now off the top of my head are mainly like-hearted comedies like Squid Girl, Sgt. Frog, Minami-ke, Ichigo Mashimarrow and School Rumble. While you’re at it maybe show her Usagi Drop, Nichijou, Haruhi and K-ON too, I’m curious to see how they’ll fly.

But really i think we could probably get a more narrow list if you mention what genres or type of shows you’re willing to watch and not watch as well. No point in us recommending something when all it’ll do is make you want to gouge your eyes out lol

It’s not really anime, but have you tried Avatar? Great show that both of you should be able to enjoy.

I’ll check out the suggestions, as for what I’m looking for I’m a pretty open guy. Although I ask for restricted nudity/violence my niece has watched works that contained both, I just always tell her to close her eyes during those parts (like my parents used to tell me). She’s watched light hearted comedy with a bit of service like Ranma 1/2, darker themed works like Vampire Hunter D: Blood Lust, more mainstream works like Cowboy Bebop: Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door, family friendly stuff like Studio Ghibli Films (mostly Miyazaki), to stuff so complicated that I still haven’t grasped it quite yet like Evangelion. I don’t like babying her with shows like what you would find on Nick Jr. or Noggin since I find the simplicity of them to be borderline insulting. So if you enjoyed a show that you wouldn’t mind showing to your own kids then just throw it out there, I’ll review it myself and make a judgment call.

We watched the whole series.

Man I feel like I’m one eccentric fuck, everyone I’ve talked to is frustrated over not being to follow Horizon’s first episode…and I try to explain to them and they only get more confused, but it totally makes sense to me!

My girlfriend for instance, is quite upset cause I guess she thinks she’s a stupid cunt for not being able to follow along, and when chicks feel stupid it’s always the guy’s fault. Needless to say viewing the first ep ended in a fight.

who’s watching chihayafuru? I heard it started out boring but got better as it went on.

horizon gave me a very unpleasant feeling… i know i’m not the target market so i pass.

Fate/Zero will have its two-cour schedule separated by one season. That is, first half is October-December, and next is April-June.

:(((((((

On the other hand, there’s Nisemonogatari and hopefully some shows this season that will tide me over until April.

…April IS far now that I actually typed that. akrjyalkerjhaehteat

It was quite the opposite for me. I think its because of what it will be based on (karuta card game). I’m giving it a chance though.

I enjoyed the first ep. I also like the art in this anime. And WTF at F/Z being separated. As if 1 week isn’t already torture enough.

So, Parasoul has Kneesocks palette.

havent watched anime in a while, trying to find more epic action fighting anime

Check the first post Josh.
