I’ve always had some mad respect for my parents and their rules without them ever “physically disciplining” me. My two brothers, and my sister are the same way.

Some kids don’t show respect from the get go. Stop making more generalizations based on your experiences as a child. Kids quickly learn whether doing which route yields greater payouts, respect or walking all over them.
My uncle pulled this by rule only play. All I can say is that the 2 out of 3 of them aren’t exactly the best of people behind thier parents back. they just learned how to do shit that would make their parents vomit and hide it.
