American Government Thread 2: RIP John McCain, 81

Can you cite policy to that effect, or are you speculating trying to provide justification? Cuz if there is no governing policy, and there doesn’t look like there is, then I’m unclear what it matters how we justify it.

There is a reason we establish policy in governance : it prevents at least some abuse.

What the fucky fuck? Random state rep fucking up? That is leaving politics most probably? thatsracist.jpg, yeah, agreed. Its a nonissue since she’s leaving politics, but if you want to establish a standard for how we handle that kind of thing you go girl.

I don’t generally give a fuck about state politics nor politicians nor most court concerns in the American politics thread. At last check Republicans control a dominant majority of state governments so I have no idea why we don’t focus all of our bile on the democrats.

The economy is improving? I’ll go by the current fed chair who points out that this is unsustainable. Massive tax cuts and a giveaway to the rich and tearing up trade agreements and establishing ourselves as untrustable? I don’t care who’s in power, this is just dumb economics.

Fox news is entertainment, not news, so any comparison is face value bogus.

I don’t care if your views are right left or center butthole: attacking the devil media, while apparently supporting the biggest media outlet, is just breathtakingly incompetent. Talk about the real world. This is the American government thread not the American media thread.

Walmart Execs: This is the Best Economy for Our Customers in Decades

Walmart’s best sales in a decade show US consumer may be strongest in years because of the tax cut, jobs growth

  1. Walmart’s best growth in comp store sales in a decade comes as the U.S. consumer is showing some of the best signs of strength since the recession.
  2. Retail sales jumped in July, but so did the sales performance at retailers as consumers not only went shopping but spent money on travel and dining out.
  3. Economists say consumer spending is being helped by the tax bill and also the fact that U.S. job creation remains strong, even as unemployment dipped below 4 percent.

Booming Walmart, Cisco results show US economy’s strength is real and broad-based

  1. Major U.S. companies including Walmart and Cisco are confirming positive GDP macro data by posting their strongest financial results in many years. The reports indicate broad-based strength in the domestic economy.
  2. Walmart said Thursday that it had generated its highest domestic same-store sales growth in more than 10 years for its second quarter, with an increase of 4.5 percent versus the Thomson Reuters 2.4 percent estimate.

Local government is the form that is actually going to influence our lives. So yes, you should be finding faults with those that you support, or are you just a blind sheep?

Unemployment rate is the lowest its been in decades, people on welfare also the lowest its been in decades, there are more jobs available than people able to fill them. GDP is the highest in the world. But I do agree, this is unsustainable, it would have been even more unsustainable had either Hillary or Sanders got into office. So for now I’ll take that 700 billion deficit per year as the least evil option of the three. But hey, I recommended that we cut both military spending and entitlements. But you were unwilling to cut a single penny from entitlements. Who’s the person that’s for an unsustainable economy? Oh right you.

Then why did a MSNBC panelist say that Trump would like to kill people without due process? Where are the facts to back up that statement? There aren’t any, she’s attempting to slander the president with false stories and you sheep follow along.

CNN is suing and harassing the government to force Manafort to release the names of the jurors so MSM and social media can threaten and tamper with them. So if they find a judgement not in their favor they can call for jury tampering that they were the cause of.

CNN continually misconstrues everything that comes out of the Trump camp to put a negative spin on it. They are exactly like Fox news.

Except I don’t support fox news or any MSM outlet. But funny how calling out BS on left leaning MSM outlets has your diapers in a bunch. Face it, you’re as blind as the hillbilly republicans that you and the rest of your circle jerk of Trump haters make fun of.

Twitter CEO: ‘I Fully Admit’ Twitter Has to Be More Transparent With Policy Enforcement, ‘That’s On Me’

Much of the interview revolved around the allegations from conservatives that Twitter uses shadowbanning and other forms of censorship to suppress right-wingers. President Trump about this earlier in the day, so Dorsey defended himself while acknowledging the question of “are we doing something according to political ideology or viewpoints?”

“We are not. Period,” Dorsey said. “We do not look at content with regards to political viewpoint or ideology. We look at behavior, and we use that behavior as a signal to add to relevance.”

As the interview continued, Dorsey conceded that some people might not believe him because “I fully admit” to Twitter’s left-leaning bias. As such, he said Twitter has more work to do in terms of removing bias from their policy enforcement, and tech companies in general have to do better in terms of transparency.

Facebook Apologizes for Removing Conservative Site’s Posts

Facebook has issued an apology after it removed content from Prager University’s Facebook page, prompting the organization to claim “we’re being heavily censored.”

“We mistakenly removed these videos and have restored them because they don’t break our standards,” Facebook wrote on Twitter on Friday.

Facebook added: “This will reverse any reduction in content distribution you’ve experienced. We’re very sorry and are continuing to look into what happened with your Page.”

Yeah, it was a “mistake”. People now worried that this is what happens when “progressive programmers” define hate speech. Social media alternatives have been growing lately:

I’m a huge fucking Cassandra, so ignore me as usual but … I don’t think the minimal gains you’re getting here over previous trajectory were really worth the big tax cut and associated debt. Like the fed chair said, things are doing okay but this isn’t sustainable. $21 trillion or so is interesting financial brinksmanship: I’d have thought that we’d have stopped digging that hole a while ago.

Fascinating to determine how you best define that. Agreed that you need clear policies and standards on all of this nebulous bullshit.

A Cassandra?

Cassandra vs Pollyanna. Cassandra predicts doom and gloom, Pollyanna believes in sunshine and happiness. Literary characters of significant enough impact that their names are synonymous with particular ways to view the future.

Not referring to anybody, just making general observation, so y’all can ignore me as usual:

Champagne liberals only care about poor people when they’re being given hand outs by the good graces of their betters in the government.

But when economic policy enacted by conservatives brings about the economic conditions that gives the poor the opportunity to prosper, past forecasts of secular stagnation notwithstanding, suddenly the poor don’t matter anymore. No, the environment, the national debt, the president’s supposed racism are what really matters. Fuck the poor. They voted against their interests by walking away from the plantation owners.

I like that instead of ignoring or discussing my actual comments or criticisms you are triggered so hard that you knowing me for … almost twenty years is overridden and all of a sudden I must be a moron for questioning political actions of people you like.

I’m bothered by the lack of library funding, arts funding, school funding, the lack of a state income tax in WA, the shitty moving definition of what Hate Speech or unacceptable conduct is, Beto being in favor of term limits which to me means that the lobbyist infrastructure would rule politics even harder, the lack of public funding for elections, media as a propaganda tool, Democrats trying to touch the gun control third rail, abusing the political system via obstructionism and gerrymandering (this is a both sides problem), motherfuckers complicit in hiding sexual abuse cases, the difficulty in actually knowing what happens in sexual abuse cases, pretending that taxes are intrinsically bad, pretending that regulation is a dirty word, economic disparity, the demonization and destruction of the union and other tools of the working class, short sighted planning, spiders, and Visigoths.

A lot of shit that’s not relevant to this thread. Talk about what you’re interested in. Hey look I mentioned Beto in a negative fashion. But I’m not going to do your job of sharing the TERRIBLE THINGS that Democrats are doing: you go girl.

it would have been even more unsustainable had either Hillary or Sanders got into office.

I don’t think Bernie or Clinton would have been dumb enough to make that same shallowly-sexy corporate tax cut. I think that difference alone cancels out any proposed set of changes that Bern-Clinton would have made.

So for now I’ll take that 700 billion deficit per year as the least evil option of the three. But hey, I recommended that we cut both military spending and entitlements. But you were unwilling to cut a single penny from entitlements. Who’s the person that’s for an unsustainable economy? Oh right you.

That doesn’t follow. Making anything personal - “oh right you” - is just jawdroppingly stupid if that personal comment presupposes a completely illogical take. “My” take is only unsustainable if you propose that that’s the only change you make to the system. Given that we’re at ~$21 trillion in national debt, I don’t think that’s viable. I’m not going to pitch austerity cuz that’s a shitty plan, but … we got some serious problems, man.

There aren’t any, she’s attempting to slander the president with false stories and you sheep follow along.

First I’ve heard of it, so I’ll agree to disagree on that. Thought: any comment involving “you sheep” is probably not worth sharing out loud.

CNN is suing and harassing the government to force Manafort to release the names of the jurors

Of course you vilify CNN, but it’s a group effort:

Hopefully you read that. It’s an interesting issue and worthwhile of understanding. I’d generally strongly prefer juror privacy, but if that’s not the rule of law it’s not the rule of law. See the motion. And wait for the decision from the bench which should help clarify the interpreted legal correctness of their position. And if you don’t like that decision, change the law so that the judge has better guidance to work from in the future.

This isn’t rocket science. Just political science. It’s not hard to understand and follow.

CNN continually misconstrues everything that comes out of the Trump camp to put a negative spin on it.

I think there’s a substantial amount of things being done by the Trump camp that have no need to be spun in order to appear to be negative. But in the words of Giuliani, “Truth isn’t the truth.”

They are exactly like Fox news.

No, Fox News is entertainment, not news, per their own words. It also leaves you dumber than if you didn’t watch it, which is not the case with CNN.

But funny how calling out BS on left leaning MSM outlets has your diapers in a bunch.

I think categorically attacking “MSM!” is incredibly disturbing. They ain’t an Enemy of the People, as Trump would have us treat them. Typically they have no power whatsofucking ever. Punch upwards at the people with power, not the sad fucks trying to get out the news about what’s happening.

Face it, you’re as blind as the hillbilly republicans that you and the rest of your circle jerk of Trump haters make fun of.

Nah, I’m a pragmatic fuck. You seem riled up that people disagree with Trump, but … c’mon man. This country is hopefully going to be here for a while. I’d like us to have some long term vision instead of fucking the future in order to live in the moment. But hey, again, that’s just me being the pragmatic fuck that I am.

Look up where majority of the money from the wholly unnecessary permanent corporate tax cuts and temporary personal tax cuts and tell me who’s benefitting from here. The proportionate gain from us taking out a loan that will need to be paid back makes it seem to my cynical ass that the Republicans are looting the country in order to make the rich richer.

Hope people enjoy their breadcrumbs. :\

pretty much. it’s a modern day version of nixon’s enemies list except nixon wasn’t dumb enough to tip his hand and kept his list hidden from public view until the watergate hearings.

breh, no one except your fellow cult members and bakers are going to seriously listen to your alternative media sources because you people got beef with the MSM. don’t get me wrong. it is entertaining sometimes to watch some random dude babbling incoherently in a tin foiled line room, but it’s more alternative comedy than alternative news.

agreed. the trump administration argued that the tax cuts would pay for themselves (lol) by generating increased revenue from faster economic growth. unsurprisingly, the laffer curve failed again. the amount of corporate taxes collected has dropped to historically low levels pushing the federal budget deficit created by the tax cut much higher expected. also, corporations have invested more into stock buybacks than their businesses and workers contrary to the trump administration claims. wage growth is paltry at best when it should be skyrocketing along with the job market. it’s also getting eaten up by inflation. it’s one thing to increase the deficit during a bad economic cycle, but driving it up during a good economic cycle is plain mismanagement.

it’s the finesse of the century. i think it’s funny how no one was talking about how the middle class secured the bag with this tax cut. trump told them they would be stacking racks on racks if they gave corporations and their wealthy donors a tax cut and they’re still broke.

Everyone ready for the 2019 recession???

Recession? By the time Trumps done it’s going to be the Second Depression.

That Cohen deal sounds like it could be straight fire. People need to understand that this is utterly and completely an unfounded witch hunt, and also just please politely ignore the witches. The best people.

Christopher Steele also won at least the first round of the libel lawsuit against him from Russians named in the dossier.

Piece on how Trump’s security clearance actions and threats are probably unconstitutional:

Commentary on Twitter’s ability to kick people off its platform:

I’m still dying to hear the results of the Manafort trial. 10-12 days of deliberations is normal-ish for previous political cases along these lines I believe. Ugh, c’mon people.

Cohen pleads guilty to eight felony charges at almost the exact same time Manafort is found guilty of eight felony charges. This shit is crazy today.

What are the chances that Trump pardons Cohen and Manafort?

No way he pardons them. He wouldn’t survive the political backlash. Then again, he is Donald Trump, so…

Political backlash from whom? The Republicans are in complete control. I don’t think we’ve shown that they have any interest in holding their own accountable.

Peeps need to vote in 2018, regardless of who you’re voting for.
