Ok but presumably many other folks are in situations similar to those of trans folks and yet they aren’t trans. They are an extremely small percentage of the population.
Lots of people carrying mutations in cancer genes don’t have cancer, it’s called incomplete penetrance.
Lots of genes give you a less than 100% chance of having some trait.
You aren’t arguing with a real doctor. You are arguing with somebody who believes white privelege isn’t real
Really he is making a shitty argument
There a biological explanations for psychological afflictions
I’m not even arguing- lot’s of people legit aren’t familiar with all this stuff.
Well, for one, I would hope that you realize that someone who is publically trans will face wayyyyyyy worse discrimination than a Rachel Dolezal type ever will, number one.
Number two, the research is very young, but there are promising hints that yes, the biology of those who say they are not of their natal birth matches up with the claim.
But more to the point, most trans folk will tell you that it is not in fact a choice, and that their brain is constantly at war with themselves over the idea. And why not believe them? Rachel Dolezal’s bullshit position is rooted itself in weird racial superiority claptrap; no trans person is trans because they believe themselves to have to bear the burden of being an activist. Don’t confuse Dolezal’s insane white privilege with that of a trans person.
The science is young, and it’s pretty understandable that most just simply are not really educated on the subject, so I guess I can’t really blame anyone who does think Dolezal and a trans person are similar on the surface. But you should probably be aware that the roots of your argument are founded in the idea that many trans people are just lying or doing it for props, which is, again, a bonkers idea that is deeply harmful to the progression of trans civil rights.
I’ll check out that article you posted, thanks for linking it.
But explain to me why Rachel dolezal’s claim of blackness because she identified as black is white supremecy but a boy or girl who say they are a different gender simply because they identify as such is not some form of superiority or privilege. No one said anything about activism, I’m just trying to understand what the difference is if all it takes is simply IDENTIFYING as a member of a group, why is it ok to identify as a member of one group but not another?
I’m curious as to what the outcome of this research is. If there is indeed a genetic link to transgenderism, I think that would be a big step in being able to have our laws catch up to society.
Show me where I ever said anything like that. Why are you still even in this thread when youve shown yourself to be incapable of holding two opposing thoughts in your mind at once nevermind discussing them?
Salvage your useless post and explain to me how my argument is shitty. You work in the medical field don’t you? So clearly you MUST know something I don’t.
Ok but before you were saying it didn’t have to be genetic. Now you’re saying it’s possible it’s a mutation?
Can be genetic, doesn’t have to be. Sloppy of me to use a genetic example though, sorry- I was in a rush (still at work).
I should state for the record too, I am a research coordinator for a large medical system’s cancer genetics program. So this stuff is on my mind a lot.
No worries, I understand that.
The article KingHippo posted has some interesting info in it, give it a read when you have a chance.
I could explain, but there’s a lot to it, so I’ll let this article do it for me.
Are y’all saying Caitlyn Jenner didn’t have a choice when she cut off her fruity pebbles?
I can’t remember if I’ve ever been in this thread. But the recent news about this Caravan from Guatemala has me concerned. It’s reported that they’ve actually forced their way past the southern Mexican border, and now on their way to the U.S., rolling as much as 5000 deep if not more. And Trump has announced that the military will be called upon and stationed at the border should they get close.
Is this cause for concern? Could this possibly spark a war between the U.S and Mexico, or even other nations? If the military is deployed and the caravan doesn’t back down?
It’s precisely because the science is young that’s it’s scary how politicised its become.
It’s clear that the trans lobby has declared certain tenets as “truth” before any actual scientific truth has been established. It is understandable why they would do so- the homosexual community has made massive strides in the last 10 years, and the best play for the trans lobby is to latch on all the homosexual community’s victories and claim all of them as their own.
But they’re not the same, if only because transitioning is such a physically traumatic act. The fact that politics seems to be dictating what science can and cannot say about transgenderism and transitioning will in the end only hurt the one community - the transgenders.
U.S. and Mexico aren’t going to war over the craziness that has been happening in Central America. Especially with our governments past actions in the region.
Points made for me
The problem is that trump is attacking trans people period
He is taking rights away and trying to make them not matter.
Saying being trans is a choice is bs
There are plenty of trans people who refuse to get gender reassignment due to health risk
The hormone treatments are to balance them out
But brain chemistry is fucking tricky still
Your haiku needs work,
It’s an uninspired rant,
With too many lines.
We have bombs being sent to peoples houses because people believe in conspiracy theories…
Trump straight up refers to himself as a "Nationalist"
We have a elected leader who only lies, like it now less common for him to tell the truth. Like below.
I want to go back to where I hate someone like Wacky Walsh because he is a retarded politician with shitty political views. Its not normal I am on the same page with Walsh lately.
Interesting article, I read it over several times.
The author says the difference between Dolezal’s case and Jenner’s is that trans folks, and allies, say they “believe trans folks were born that way” and that Dolezal deliberately misrepresented her race. But there’s no evidence (yet anyway) to the “born that way” idea, and if Dolezal’s folks hadn’t sqealed on her, no one would have known she wasn’t black. The issue is that in both examples, the folks in question are saying, “I FEEL like this, I IDENTIFY as this” and the problem with that, is that now we have to decide whether it’s enough to grant civil rights protections to people based on feelings. If science can prove there’s a genetic/biological link to transgenderism then I think that’s enough to say that, yes, these folks need to have those protections. But we’re not there yet.
