If revenues had dropped after the tax cuts, you can be sure that every damn paper would be plastered with the headline about “tax cuts for the rich” expanding the deficit. Pretty sure the left would’ve seen nothing hypothetical about screaming that all day long.
So let’s call a spade a spade. Taxes were cut. Revenues didn’t drop. Hold that.
Oh the one brought on by known fucking racist dirtbag Edward Blum? Can’t wait for the continued wrath of mediocre white men who blame minorities for their political failings.
I’m not here trying to wave the finger at CNN or do a SMH at them but they sure did something very dumb the other day
Don Lemon had some guests on and they were talking about a painting trump had in the white house and Don Lemon said just out of nowhere " It would be better if the painting was of us " Don then tried to make whole painting conversation about him and the guest.
what Don did for the end of the interview was make the whole story about him.
Looks it’s really important that rich white families KEEP everything they got because their history is important but it’s also important that we completely ignore history as it applies to anybody who might have had struggles in their past. Non-rich people can bootstrap themselves and just need to work harder. It’s mean to make rich people work at all. It’s just a weird coincidence that having the money to be in a place to succeed typically means more success.
Money can buy happiness, and more importantly it buys opportunity.
Notice I’m making socioeconomic statements, not race-based statements. It’s a fucked up area to detangle, and I’m curious what the court finally does here after all this time.
Idk why I’m replying to the partisan hackery, but Blum’s whole MO is to find institutions that have some form of affirmative action, then fund money for lawyers to sue with largely unknown plaintiffs. His reasoning is because he ran for Congress in the early 90’s and got his back blown out, which he claims was due to unfair racial gerrymandering that favored blacks and browns in Texas.
Asians have just become a wedge (a shaky one - almost 80% agree with affirmative action) to help him destroy civil rights protections because, again, God forbid a mediocre nothing not get everything he ever wanted, so everyone must suffer.
Wait it isn’t fair for you to understand the history and issues.
true: I’m interlinking issues here outside of the bounds of just this particular long-running court case, speaking to general Republican philosophies. It’s not just a white issue even then, but I think ignoring the race factor in the equation would be extremely dishonest. If we’re to the point in society where it’s about socio-economics instead of race, as I specifically commented, that’s fucking awesome. I don’t think we’re there yet. And given that I already addressed your concern… lrn 2 red bro. This is like the fifteenth time you’ve taken issue based upon an alternate interpretation of reality.
It’s almost like a fighting game website is a bad place for any kind of intelligent discussion of contentious issues.
Honestly speaking, if you need to have brain surgery, which doctor are you going to trust the most? The one that got into college because the college needed to fill in a % or the one that actually earned it legitimately? This is what people genuinely think so is affirmative action really fair or hampering?
I’d trust the doctor that became a doctor. Just because you’re able to get into school does not grant you the degree. You’ll need to work your ass off.
One of my favorite stats ever was that at one point Duke medical school’s divorce rate for students in the program was over 100%. If you came in married, you got divorced, and if you got married you got divorced. It’s fucking brutal.
So yeah, we’re talking about admittance into the school in the first place, not the work that they were all then required to do to become a doctor. Different conversation entirely.
Shortly after a Washington Post journalist was apparently tortured to death, Trump is out praising the guy who physically attacked a journalist last year:
When affirmative action is gone we can finally have a colorblind society. A true meritocracy, a society where you judged by your talents and abilities and NOT the color of your skin.
Forgive my ignorance, but this statement seems confused. If I’m reading this correctly, it seems like you are trying to say that affirmative action is there to fix socioeconomic concerns, despite the fact that it only addresses racial diversity concerns. There are white people that are poor and non white people that are rich.
Affirmative action has been alive in Malaysia for 50 years. In fact Malaysia’s form of affirmative action is much more comprehensive than just college admissions - civil service jobs, public contracts… The arm of Malaysia’s affirmative action (which favours the majority but historically poorer Malay race over minority Chinese and Indians) reaches far and wide.
You’d think that if it actually did what it was supposed to do, I.e. Uplift a historically disadvantaged people and righting a scale that was tilted by legacies, it would’ve done it’s job by now.
But nope. All it does is engender corruption, patronage and waste, as any system that allocates resources based on political imperatives is wont to do.
