I like his reasoning if it wasn’t for a SCOTUS position. This is not a position where you hire people you have questions about. Then again, Manchin is in WV so I’d bet his hand is forced. Curious if he got offered anything for the state for his efforts.

In theory any party would want those people out of their party and this would not be a partisan thing. Like Arpaio and Moore and blah blah blah should just be told to fuck off and the next reasonable candidate should step up.
The fact that it is a partisan thing to you know not sell the country out to foreign interests is pretty troubling.

This is a historically bad election for Democrats, so while I’d like to think we’d put hands back on the wheel (versus the Republicans happy to ghost ride the whip), it’d take everybody and their goddamned mother voting to actually change the balance in Congress and maybe have some of those Chex and balances I’ve heard so much about.
And as always, it’s clear that there’s a ~35% base that’s going to vote solid Republican no matter what the fuck happens no matter who. That’s excellent when you have rational people as candidates, and seriously troubling when your party gets hijacked by Twitter trolls.

i agree. i thought it was going to be something well…extreme. anyway, pew research recently concluded a robust examination of the 2016 election where they looked at the data and found that four in ten Americans who were eligible to vote did not do so in 2016. if anything, younger nonvoters handed trump the presidency. iirc, baby boomers aren’t the largest voting bloc anymore. younger voters hardly have room to complain about these old people putting a trillion plus deficit on their credit card if they don’t vote.

So basically Republicans are willing to vote against their party all the time and the left demonizes them. They just want to work together. Meanwhile Democrats largely vote down the party line, never vote from Republican ideas and the second someone does it’s perplexing… it’s called working together. Democrats should try it more often. We might get shit done for once.
