American Government Thread 2: RIP John McCain, 81

I thought it was an amber alert and ignored it like I usually do

To where lol

I’m puzzled how you can sit in the middle of some of the most breathtakingly interesting moments in political history and yet be bamboozled by people yelling about Corporate Media. Plus hey… it’s the American Government thread: discuss American Government. :+1:

Where else…

The random basement dwellers spewing bile in random videos? Yeah those aren’t great. Everybody has different opinions, though: work with it.

As opposed to the smarmy white people in suits who sit behind fancy desks, who are bought and paid for by billion dollar corporations, who have abandoned basic journalistic standards in desperation for viewers…

Aren’t they kinda doing the same thing, except with a different revenue stream

He thinks there is a difference.

Giant conglomerate vs patreon supporters… I wonder who is more independent…

Neither especially one who is taking their content from alt right websites

I remember when we thought that same thing about wikileaks, and then it comes out after the election that they were indeed actively attacking one party to bring them down. Not really a surprise to anyone who had been following their actions, but after that at the least it was undeniable.

Relatedly, I think don’t that videos stating the left is evil are independent nor interesting. It’s garbage, and is rotting your mind. I don’t think highly partisan media is of any particular interest to peeps.

aaaanyways. So! Kavanaugh’s name mostly cleared. Thank goodness. I for one look forward to an angry drunk white man spewing conspiracy theories on the court. Perhaps the next nominee could be Alex Jones.

Don’t laugh, you know that this is a possibility in Trumpland.

In all seriousness it’ll be fine. If they strike down Roe v Wade the dems can pass a law when they get Bernies reanimated corpse in there in 2024.

I can’t think of any previous SCOTUS judge for which we would reasonably have angry judge memes. I must have missed the apology for his unhinged conspiracy rant, complete with threats.

This is unreasonable. Not being willing to compromise on a nominee is a sign of badness. Everybody bent over and took Gorsuch like a man, ffs it would not have been hard to not pick angry conspiracy guy that the ā€œreasonableā€ Republican McConnell didn’t want. sigh yay America republicans are doing great things for the country!

I’m curious if in 2-6 years (end of Trump term) the Republican party swings back to not-asshole mode.

The Don is an actual echo chamber wherein they ban you for deviating from groupthink. While the subject is interesting, your sources for information are bafflingly awful.

As re the subject: hell yes! Nobody knows what it will do to the actual election results. Conservatives have historically been very good at mobilizing out of fear of some slippery slope bullshit happening. Maybe only 25% of the populace likes Trump, but those motherfuckers will get every last vote out. Libruls don’t have near the commitment to vote, and it fucks the party and the people as a result.
