WOW, thats a lot of hate. I think you guessed wrong about “The entrants at EVO in XSF were not ready to see someone totally whore out an easy-mode top tier team like Justin is used to doing.” Because I’m sure a guy like dogface who’s been playing since 96 has seen a cheap “easy-mode” top tier Storm in play before. The only difference between the ones he’s seen before and Justin’s is that Justin does it better.

I mean the whole game of XSF is being cheap and whoring out infinites! So I don’t get why you’re hating on Justin’s “cheap” ways when I’m sure everyone else were playing “cheap” with infinites also.

I think Phil brings up some good points and most of you dont even seem to play xmen to know what he’s talking about. that being said Justin is obv a top xmen player as it stands and Im sure if he spent any significant time on the game he’d become the clear #1 in the world, I just know xmen well enough to know that 1 tournament with this calibur of play means very little.

I don’t see why people are claiming this post is full of hate when it actually has valid points and avoids flaming.

As Vic/dogface himself said, his game plan was just to go in there and infinite jwong. That was his gameplan. If it isn’t obvious yet that’s a horrible strategy, just as bad as if some random marvel player decided his strategy against jwong would be to catch some infinites and snapbacks to victory.

Jwong’s advantage over anyone else is that he gets to constantly sharpen and refine his gameplay no matter which game. He has infinite access to top players and competition.

Just by reading vic/dogface’s post several things become apparent:

  1. He completely underestimated jwong and didn’t prepare properly.
  2. His game and mastery, though longstanding, was not outstanding as it had stagnated and become stale.
  3. His competition was lacking and left him with bad habits getting beaten by basics and simple strategies.

Is it really a surprise that Jwong won like this?

As DSP pointed out, was Jwong the #1 player of the day? Yes he was. This isn’t in disagreement. Is he a top player in the world, yes he is. No hate involved all truth. But as also pointed out, other “top players” were absent.

No hate, just facts. It was a good post and here are my two cents.

I remember seeing justin play xvssf for the first time a few years ago and I actually thought wow it looks like a 3s match when he was playing chun against another chun player. Completely nullified his airdash with standing jab or something and it become a footsie only match.

Sure, you can choose to cheer for who you like. That is a preference but, you would rather see players from other countries come and take top spot in our tournament? Would you rather see Americans lose to China in the Olympics too? Not to mention the play style weren’t too far off from each other during a LOT of the mirrors. It just doesn’t seem right. If we went to SBO there probably wouldn’t be a single Japanese spectator that would want the Choi/Valle/Wong’s to take ANYTHING from the Nuki/Bas/Tokido’s.

I’m glad that Justin won. There, I said it. Besides ST, this is pretty much the only other SF game (and now I’ll take shit for saying it’s a SF game) that he hasn’t dominated.

If people actually cared about XSF, Justin would not have won.

If people actively played this game all the time, Justin would not have won.

If people actually used their old school strategies instead of just trying to play easy mode, Justin would not have won.

Sorry to say, but Justin is not the best in XSF, period. And I will stand by this statement until I see him beat the best in this game, which I have never seen.

Justin couldn’t beat me when the stakes were on the line. In XSF, AE, or ST. So why would I believe this ridiculous fanboy thread? He was the best ON THIS DAY. But he has never been a dominating factor in this game, and to say he’s the best in the world is just so insane, it makes me cringe. Wake up Dogboy.

And to the guy who laughed that I play Vega in ST…boy, do you have your history wrong. Were you even at EVO 2k5? Do you even understand ST? I fucking guess not. I barely walldived at all that tournament. And everyone agrees the worst part of Vega is his walldives. I was actually AFRAID to dive in that tourney because I was trying to learn him ultra fast…I relied way more on turtling and normals than on abusing the wall dives that make Vega top tier in ST. So yeah, get your facts straight, you dumb shit. I played Vega once in 2006 and when I played him in 2007, it had been so long that I had forgotten what to do, and lost to a fucking Blanka. I always love it when people talk out of their ass, because it’s so easy to just make them look dumb.

If this really becomes what I think it will be…my true feelings about Justin Wong…we’ll do it elsewhere. For now, I stand by my statement that Justin is not the best XSF player and has done nothing to prove that he is, besides whore out the top tiers in the most un-competitive way possible. That’s not skill, that’s just plain greed.

X-men was crazy this year. It had the best players from all over. I really wanted to play justin but to bad I didn’t get to play him this year. Looks like he improved alot from the last time I played him.

Good job to Toxy and Contra for beating me. Made me sad :sad:

Real talk Justin is a fantastic player, and talking about how he “uses an easy team” or anything that can be paraphrased along similar lines is just ignorant, straight up and down.

JW’s Chun and Storm both play classy, technical games and he implements transferrable skills from other SF games fantastically.

Great player. Always a pleasure to face and his excelling does not surprise me in the least.

Xmen was mad fun at evo im so glad that i was able to make it!!!

Mad respect to dogface for the set up and getting the converters to work even though that took forever. all good man and ggs to u !!!
Just want to say that i honestly couldnt do anything on the stick that i had to use. tekken stick that is. when the vids come out you will see what i mean…

i was unable to do multiple trijumps with mags constantly due to the stick and i couldnt use storm at all even my fly combo wouldnt come out and a lot of the time the hail storm didnt come out and i would do a typhoon.
besides that i still had a great time meeting all the usa players.
And of course i cant forget about Toxy!!! mad fun playing u man hope to play u again next year!!! Get on making a next combo vid.
Next year ill be ready with my stick or a stick i can use properly and ill just have to say that it will be FrEE for me!!! lol GGs!!!

I’ll say this much, Justin plays xvsf almost the same as me. He runs when he needs to and rush’s when he has too.

I use the same team as him, We played at T9 I beat him twice and that was that. DO i think I’m better? I’m not going to say yes. We’ll just play at T10. But DSP I played you as well, I don’t know why you think isn’t the best in the USA. If he won the evo tournament for xvsf then he is the best. What more do you want him to do? Have TFGM fly down every single top xvsf player in the world to EVO, just to fight Justin?

Well I’ll tell you something. Justin’s been to AUZ he beat toxy there, He came to Canada Lost one year to LMX (it was one match) Then he came back the next year beat lmx almost beat Joker lost to MiddlekingPin. Then at evo he beat joker and beat toxy. He placed over every good xvsf player I know of. What do you want?

Next year I’m playing him a race to 10. I’d like to see if he can beat me. I don’t even fucking infinite with Chun in this game (who I’m sapose to be better with).

Props to JUSTIN for holding it down, for entering xvsf and WINNING. If you hate on him WINNING then your a fucked up character. It sounds like a personal vendetta.

Well i think Justin is better than me, If you say your better than him. I’ll MM you and him at T 10 next year. If you can bring a team of 5 to T 10 I’ll also put any amount of money down that we will win here in canada.

Because regaurdless of what YOU may think about the xvsf scene , we PLAY this game in Canada. When ever i host a tournament theres always good numbers for xmen. T8 T9 had good numbers Xcc most of the ottawa tournaments, MAT all have xvsf ast it.

SO if your down for the money match lets do it. I’ll also bet it on me joker or lmx taking anyone you think is the best in xmen, because its obviously not anyone who enterd xvsf at evo this year, according to your post.

If you think its walldives alone that make Vega top tier in ST then YOU don’t know ST at all, and it shows that his scrubby design can carry you even when you admit you barely knew how to play him back then.

i always thought the argument that the “best players” weren’t there so it doesn’t count is pretty lame

if they don’t show up they have no reason to even be brought up esp since time and time again an internet legend in a game turns out to suck or just be average

justin is the best in xmen vs sf and everything in the us, can’t do anything about it except to keep making up lame excuses why he’s not the best through multiple paragraph posts

So either Justin’s good, or you suck. Which one is it? you both picked top tier and took the “short cut” route, yet he won with his. The fundamental question is “Why couldn’t you if that’s all it takes?”

Also, you’re disrespecting the entire XvsSF scene. Are Toxy and Dogface not two of the best players in that game? How can you say no good players were there?
