Amazing! Justin Wong wins EVO2k8 X-Men vs Street Fighter!

I don’t mean to be a smart ass when I say this nor am I mocking you, but its better that you not know who I am. Besides I’m not even from or of this community…or any fighting game community.

He’s no god, but he is a master at his craft. Players like Yipes, Sanford and Erik are all on the same team with Justin. If you go to seasons beatings in October you will see these guys at there best.

Ummm, ok. You quoted me wrong, though.

‘post’ = prose

SBIII = i won’t be able to make it, but i sure do look forward to the vids

wow, didnt even know toxy went. mike, GOOD SHIT!

I a listen to Justin interview on the Denjin pod cast it was very interesting stuff at how he approach training and getting better. Dude certainly has the correct mentality as how to get things done.

judge_rl: joking right? What you think his name stands for? lol google?

that is the truth because what you are saying is true, and very indeed. that is a fact. that is an honest. i agree with you.

No offense, but Justin isn’t the best XSF player in the world. Someone who can master one infinite and run away with Storm in competitive play isn’t necessarily the best. XSF is a unique game because EVERY character is broken. In order to truly figure out who the best is, you have to see who can win with what characters. Did Justin fight anyone who did the same easy-mode shit he was doing? If so, did he truly do it better, or did he get lucky? These are questions that need to be asked.

I’d give much more props to people who consistently give good performances with characters who aren’t as broken, such as Gambit, Cammy, Juggs, Sabretooth, Bison, etc. These characters are great, but it’s not “touch of death” great. And they also involve actually having to play the game, rather than running away for two days.

Bottom line, Justin Wong is the best player in the US…as in, the best at finding an easily abusable exploit with a game, and working with it to win a tournament. I mean hell, his ENTIRE game in ST is O.Sagat, which is the easiest way to win in that game due to his inbalance. But you don’t see him winning ST tournaments when anyone actually good at the game is present…ST players are used to that kind of abuse. My guess is that the entrants at EVO in XSF were not ready to see someone totally whore out an easy-mode top tier team like Justin is used to doing.

Want to see Justin lose? Throw in a monkey wrench. Fight him with a lower tier team in XSF he hasn’t seen before. He WILL lose, but eventually he’ll adapt, since he’s picking the best and easiest teams in the game to win with. Justin was the best at XSF on one day, but he is and most definitely isn’t the best XSF player in the world. You can either take shortcuts to win, or you can actually love and learn a game…it doesn’t take much to call yourself a pro player, but it takes more than that to call yourself an expert. Know what I mean?

I went 3-0 (3rd strike) at the last Final Round with little trouble and then I played Justin and he got several perfects on me. He invaded my mind like one of those aliens from X-com and then preceded rip apart small fragments from my brain. I’m still trying to put the pieces back together.

Dark- I agree with you to an extent there. Although, Justin has one tournaments with mid to low tiers before. I believe he won 3s at SBI with Sean or Urien.

Real Talk Nobody is going to wanna read or believe shit you say simply because of ur avatar and the history of you talking shit and being a straight HATER…Im just stating a fact Phil we cool but you know I keep shit Real…You have little to no real respect for this community so why should people respect ur posts or anything you say for that matter.

Btw I still wanna holla at you in ST just because you have a good history in that game and I feel your good at it…Unlike Alot of people who think you suck

your whole mistake was thinking you could beat justin with just infinites. i dunno if he was practicing but i saw him drop infinites on medium characters with storm, and i don’t think he could infinite light characters. maybe that changed. anyways don’t challenge me to money matches for talking shit, game is too random.

even though joker is more of the combo type, i’m still disappointed.

where was LMX?

edit: i know people are gonna quote this and say “well xvsf is just infinites.” yeah, 90% of it is, but look who won.

truth.

missed your shot, shouldve came up this weekend for the bbq.

Justin was doing infinites. He’d miss them occasionally on Cammy, but for the most part he consistently infinited Wolverine.

I’m going to go completely off topic.

Dogface.

You are the man for bringing an Alpha 2 board, and for setting up the XSF tournies at Evo in general.

But especailly for A2.

<— Rose guy.

On a somewhat related note, I think a better approach is to accept that your opponent isn’t a scrub; a lot of people psych themselves up and think that their opponent isn’t shit, and they can do whatever they want and whatever whatever… Different things work for different people, but when those players lose that match that they thought was free, some of them get frustrated and it costs them the next game too.

Just 2 cents from a scrub.

These statements are truly amazing (and extra hilarious) coming from a ST Vega player

Wow this is like a scrub manifesto.

I mean… “shortcuts”?

Really?

REALLY?

I like that.

If its so easy and exploitable then why isnt everyone doing it and travelling around making bank on fucking street fighter? hmm… maybe knowing it and actually executing it when it matters are two different things…

i gained a lot of respect for a lot of top players this evo (fuck who am I right), but especially Justin. I think its nuts that he can play all these games and place so high in basiclly every last one of them. Anyone who goes to these tourneys know its pretty draining to sit there and play all day.

you can call me a nuthugger all you want, i dont give a fuck. when you see this man battle it out wit h Ohnuki for like 30 mins or some shit then go on to ace it in marvel later that day, i mean that is something. you cant hate on that… i mean you can but you shouldnt. haha.

shit just got real.

I’m liking this thread

can’t wait for vids…

if justin really REALLY took the game seriously, like his new main game that he would mostly, I’m sure he’d be the best…don’t you think? but marvel is what he spends most his time on I guess…

dogface: At least now, you don’t have to worry about getting the trophy for yourself. amirite? OH DOGFACE!!!

Wow, you’re stupid. I don’t need to repeat what haunts said.

To tell the truth, I didn’t like watching Justin’s style in 3s. No offense to him, he’s cool, but how much dancing can I really watch from Chun Li, right? That and I was cheering for JR. So, during grand finals, I really just didn’t care who won and wanted the whole thing to be over with. But as we got towards that last game and Justin started staging these amazing offensive sequences against Nuki, I started to cheer for him. Not because I wanted US to win or because I was on the Justin bandwagon. But I truly felt that he played great and deserved to finally win it.

Normally, I just cheer for friends who are playing, but this was a cool change. If anything, the Nuki fanboys taunting Justin in the front were really annoying and needed to go suck on a dick and/then die. It wasn’t that I didn’t like Nuki, just that they should have been more respectful. There’s a difference between cheering for/against people and just plain being disrespectful. I don’t know who that woman was with TFGM, but props to you for telling them to stfu. Nothing against people who aren’t on the Justin bandwagon, but like I said: there’s a difference between not cheering for someone and just being disrespectful.

Yeah, it is plain disrespectful to hate on JustinW’s obvious abilities in the games he plays. There are many players who are just as good and who can even execute just as, if not, better, but JW is smart and consistently smart. I don’t agree with diminishing his victories just because he plays an ‘easily exploitable’ character or strat. It is the art of fighting that calls you to try and beat it. Why not use it? Either adapt or lose. JustinW is not unbeatable, but he sure does a damn good job at making it hard to do so.

Learning a lot from reading these posts. Good stuff guys.
