Alpha 3: Q & A

Crouching LK->Crouching LK->Crouching LK->HP Shou’Ou Ken is a combo. But you have to be close from your opponent.

Sorry but It IS possible to do the 4fp xx 623fp combo, just like trying to combo a jab shoryu off a close fierce with v-akuma.

Is V-Ken turning up more or is it just the same Ken player I’ve been seeing for the past few months?

Is there a setting in the arcade dip switch options that allows one to unlock the secret characters as opposed to waiting forever for the title screen to change colors?

Iceman: yes

I’m pretty noob but I’m having some trouble with V-Charlie vs A/X-Ken, specifically against his jump-ins. His j.forward and j.roundhouse seem to always stuff or trade with my anti-air normals (back+fierce, c.fierce) and if they throw in a jump-in hurricane kick now and then I get screwed over even more. What should I be using against this? I’ve heard that c.strong is a good anti-air, but I haven’t been able to use it very well.

standing jab is pretty good; on counterhit, you can chase after Ken w jump strong, and if that comes off as a counterhit go for another jump fierce (or airthrow?). also vertical j.forward has pretty good range; u can sorta jump up once in a while, and just FK if he jumps at you. VCs of course are optimal; if you have meter and Ken’s close to the corner, just anti-air VC that shit and crouch cancel 35% meter back.

but i think what u could try is making a point to see when Ken jumps at you, and train yourself to low fierce when you see him leave the ground. without Ryu’s options (hopkick, knockdown hurricane kick, good fireball), Ken kinda has to jump at you a bit more and low fiercing him becomes a big part of keeping him out (imho, beating him). his jump fierce is better than Ryu’s iirc, but if you make a point to watch very carefully for the jump ins and keep him on the ground, you’ll probably find that Chuck’s ground game eats Ken’s up nicely.

I think ken should be able to play on the ground without needing to jump.
After all, he has all that variety of kicks and good ones too.

i dunno about having good kicks. his roundhouse is nowhere near as good as his A2 roundhouse, and his non-V forward has no range. the only thing notable is maybe his f.RK, which you’ll only be meeting at wakeup (how does Ken knock Charlie down?). in any case, Charlie’s ground moves (c.FK, sobat, stepkick, backfist, SK) are faster and have more range than the majority of Ken’s moves.

That code should be posted up, like… everywhere.

It was actually pretty hard to find. I think that site is the only site that has it, if you google search for it. It’s not even on GameFAQs or any other code site. I’m glad you pointed it out, I had forgotten about it.

Ken vs Charlie

I agree about charlie having better normals but if ken jumps he’s in an even worst position than before, is he doomed ?

Ken is good because he has two invincible pokes (fireball and DP, which have the bonus of screwing with your head if you get hit by them), and a couple of good normals. Charlie still beats him on the ground.

Not too terrible a match. Charlie takes it somewhere between 6-4 and 7-3, but Ken can hold his own. It’s the anti-air VC that you’d worry about as much as the normals.

trivia: Charlie was champion of the US martial arts tournaments before Ken

Anybody here uses the shoto standing short as a poke?
It counters most low forwards and the angle is nice.

new a3 a-cho

finally, some V-Ken

Gameplay wise can alpha 3 compare to GGXX #R ?
I’m beginning to transition to GGXX #R I ghess because it’s somewhat easier to play(debatable) and it’s quite intense. Even though(?) I like both alot.

GGXX#R is more similar to Vampire Savior.
