Survival is such a pain… I have played survival at least 500 times, and I have reach Bison only 3 times with Gen. :frowning:
Last year, I saw John Choi beating survival twice in a row with Akuma V-ISM. :mad:

Can you tell me how to do it, MJ? Maybe I could make one vid showing how I play Gen against all characters without having to play in survival mode and gettng killed by character X.

Apoc quick question, i was watching your evo2k2 match against ino. Is there any reason you avoided crouch cancels in that game? I counted you winning 6 air-to-air counters and you didn’t follow them up with free hits or supers.

i also counted another 6 air-to air counters won spread over your other matches. i think only one was followed by a s.fierce.

please don’t think im having a go, im just wondering if you avoided them on purpose or what was going through your head.

i would assume that free hits with counter hit properties would mean a lot to rog. I also see a CC VC as being the only variable combo with rog.

props to almost beating bas’s akuma with rog btw.

i’m interested if there are any reasons not to crouch cancel.

IIRC, i dont think apoc ever really learned crouch cancels at that time. im sure he knew it, but he probably just didnt incorporate it into his gameplan yet

I have a question, I was playing A-Bison vs V-Dan today…

Dan Jumped at me so naturally I try to hit him out of the air with a standing JP… and, he AIR BLOCKS it???

We think that perhaps Dan blue blocked(just defended) so this might allow people to air block ground based moves in SFA3? Or is this just a Dan specific ability or am I just going mad???

Since there is a tournament coming, with Japanese coming… I wanted to join.

Since I have no idea to play the game.

Who is the easiest to learn? I have read James Chen FAQs and others. Can anyone teach me?

I would recommend V-sakura for starting with. she’s top tier and easy to use.

she has one b&b combo and one vc. things to know:

j.forward (as meaty cross-up ), c.jab, c.short, s.short, fierce dragon punch

her VC is VC1,3 s.jab (antiair), jab dragon punch, B+fierce, whiff forward hurricane kick, s.fierce, whiff forward hurricane kick, s.fierce, whiff hurricane to corner, then s.fierce whiff fireball.

her B+strong makes her a god abuse this move as a poke and counter. You can cancel it into dragon punch or fireball for counter hit damage.

F+roundhouse needs abusing too. C.fierce xx jab dragon is good anti-air. s.jab anti-air, cc j.fierce. erm…j.forward cross-up, c.short x 4, B+firece xx fireball as blocked string pattern.

i’d recommend watching the evo2k2 alpha 3 to see some good sakuras. Or Street Fighter Alpha 3 Summer Jam 2. If you get stuck i will send you summerjam over msn or something.

I suggest learning X-Sim. Up until you actually bump heads with people who can consistently VC, X-Sim rapes 'em all. You just got to learn 4 moves: slide, standing FK, yoga fire, standing jab and you’re all set.

The same is almost true with Z/X-Gief. You’d be amazed on how far Body Splash will get you.

For your first VC character, I’d suggest V-Akuma/Charlie. They’re easy to use, and you really shouldn’t worry about learning the funkier tricks (like Akuma’s OTG or 3+ consecutive hits with Charlie’s anti-air counterhit crouch cancels) until you bump heads with people who can also use them.

Looking back, V-Sak is relatively easy to learn, but I wouldn’t spring her on a Z3 beginner. She has lot of zoning (Sim also has tons of zoning, but he’s so mindlessly powerful anyway) in her game, and so you really have to learn a lot of Z3’s basics before you can use her effectively.

Can anyone post some Guy strats or strategys? I have the simple stuff… can do the chain combo xx air super, etc. etc.

There are a couple of normals that are air blockable (Birdie’s c.FK(?) is the only one I recall), maybe the jab is one of them. Then again, Dan is broken.

you want to enter a tournament with jap players coming when you have no idea how to play the game? Are you on drugs my friend?

nah I am just joking, but TBH V chars are really for more intermediate/expert players, so i reckon you should try out something easy like A/X-Zangief, he’s pretty easy to use.

or try charlie or X-sim.

haha might be. i’ve decided not to name names with the replays that im posting. I feel it gets the gameplay out for those that want to see it but without the embarrasment of the SF community comparing your casual play to evo2k2 etc.

Anyway yeah Christda’s Pc was lagging ever so slightly so we changed the cpu frequency from 11.8 mhz to 15mhz. you can press alt+f to bring up slider. left and right arrows move it in 0.1 mhz increments. Then the replay should play back fine without losing sync. I got more replays from france too if you like. (we know who was playing :slight_smile: )

Finally I played A3 in the arcades… I got killed by Dhalsim on my first try.

Dhalsim Vs. Charlie (a dozen or so tests).

After a counter hit knee, (Dhalsim was doing a neutral standing RK) Dhalsim recovered ~35 frames after impact from the knee.

If you have god-like reflexes and manage to squeeze a down charge on the frame right after doing the command for the knee, the fastest time you can execute the flashkick is ~35-40 frames after Dhalsim has recovered. Apparently, Charlie doesn’t recognize the down command during execution of the knee (the flashkick only requires ~60 frames of down direction; it seems that Charlie can only start charging down 10 frames after the knee hits).

I tried tests on other characters plus being counter hit while in the air, but they’re too hard to setup; but the fact that Charlie can’t seem to charge for most part of execution of the knee probably means it’s just plain impossible to hit something with a flashkick that doesn’t want to get hit after a knee. Even if Chalie manages to counter hit something in the air, he’ll be spening eternity in neutral state in order just to charge down.

I’ll play with charlie’s knee, flashkick when i get home from work tonight. I have a feeling what mondu said was right. But i just want to play with pre-charge buffering / charge partitioning, dunno how it will work with a double tap.

Which is Charlies better VC? The sk flashkick, bazooka knee, st. RK one? Or the bazookaknee, RK Flashkick one?
