Alpha 3: Q & A

Well Sakura in Z-ISM is really the only character I have too much trouble against. Does she have any weak point against Ken A-ISM for example?

z sak? well for one she cant control her limbs anymore so u can i guess poke at here safer now…hmm no vc activation but ACounters… dunno

Random things:
Spent the day playing A3 at school…I can’t pick Juni. How the hell do I pick Juni? I got Balrog like 4 times. Speaking of which, that Final punch is mean. S.SP/FK xx Final is really good if your strong or forward is good anti-air in the match you’re in. Also, isn’t V-Balrog supposed to be able to do the headbutt move whenever he wants, or was that just the home versions? Because I could only do it as a counter, like with X-Chun’s Tenshou or Sodom’s handstand reversal thing.

V-Blanka is God. Jump Fierce/Roundhouse beats EVERYTHING. Same with V-Bison and his jumping Short.

Everyone in California, go to the Berkely tournament this Saturday. And if you’re going, bring me vids, or something. Because I love you.

But anyway…about A-Sak.

If you can read her well, you can abuse your standing Roundhouse to no end, which is good because it makes people want to jump at you (which is a really bad idea for A-Sak for a couple of reasons). In general, I’d think you’d want to abuse crossups if you can find them, since they’re much harder for A-Sak to get around (fireball super is good anti-air, but isn’t great for when you’re crossed up). I don’t think Ken really has any advantage here tho. She can’t cross you up as easily, so that’s something. Maybe V-Ken, since then she loses all of her anti-air options for a while (though you lose the ability to super pokes).

funny thing bout V-Rog is the headbutt VC, the only VC listed for him besides cc j.FP, is available exclusively to Home Rog. i think Arcade V-Rog has the cancellable c.FP tho, and shit it would’ve been nice if he had 1 decent VC. and yea, c.SP xx TAP rocks. s.JP xx TAP works on lower level TAPs but c.SP really is necessary on higher levels coz the TAP misses otherwise.

SaBrE: Shoto advice was helpful. thanks.

Yeah, all of Arcade Balrog’s moves are flippable during the V. It’s unfortunate, he’s a good candidate for a decent VC too, having forward-moving body projectiles and all.

You need to hold left or right as you highlight the random select box.

what does sodom’s handstand move do and what does his dragon punch with kick do. I just cant figure it out.

DP+k move is a reversal, like Geese’s in the SNK games or Karin’s in A3. But it only works vs jump-ins. handstand move is a reversal for after you get hit…instead of flipping or doing a ground roll, you can do it before you hit the ground, and you’ll run towards them on your hands…CPU sodom uses it all the time. If you do it without being hit though, I think it hits once, and has some small amount of invincibility on it, but has terrible range.

Ok let me reformulate my question.

How do you beat a Sakura Z-ISM without using Sakura, Dhalsim and without using Z-ISM mode?

All the shotos can crouch underneath her standing RK, immensely reducing her abiliity to poke (as opposed to the b+FP of V-Sak). Not only can the shotos duck it, they can stuff their fists between her legs if she tries (crouching SP).

Now that Sak can’t poke effective, you can poke at her. Crouching FK -> fireball, that sort of thing. The shotos have a slight advantage now because, as TS pointed out, she has to jump in. Lacking VC-drop through, jumping in with Z-Sak is generally a bad idea. DP anyone?

Jumping in at Z-Sak is also easier than against V-Sak. Her anti-air isn’t so hot, but if you find yourself being jabbed away in the air then you should rethink you jumping angle.

Other chars: Rose can poke at Z-Sak all day long. Gief can Body Splash (sometimes trades his with Sak’s anti-air, but the damage and positioning benefit is worth it). Rolento can play his standard poking game. Vega flat out-ranges her. Chun outprioritizes a lot of her moves.

Damn, losing than b+FP isn’t worth having a super.

Actually not all shotos can duck her stand roundhouse. Only Ken can duck it.

Sorry. My bad.

wassup peeps! cant find that match with daigo’s guy in it! some help would be appreciated!

I have a matchup question. Gen vs. Honda (both in A).

Who has the advantage in this matchup? I’ve played this matchup very few times and it always seems like I can’t break through Honda’s defense. His crouch punches beat a lot of my punch style pokes and jumping is not an option. Does his kick style pokes do any better in beating Honda’s ground game? I just feel like everytime I have to inch my way in and try to chip him slowly to do damage, but Honda just does more damage hit for hit.

So how is this match supposed to be played? What does Gen have to to do win?

Thanks in advance.

you are probably the first person in existence to ever play a matchup like that in a3. seriously. never thought or heard of a matchup like that in this game. im pretty good on matchups in a3 but i dunno on this. i would imagine gen totally assraping honda for free tho. since gen is so high priority/high damage and honda isnt. v-honda would pose a much bigger threat but nothing gen couldnt handle IMO. but i wouldnt have a clue how to fight that match. just going off the notion that gen is just a much more solid character than honda, especially a-honda

I have to agree. The only time I ever lose one ROUND against a human using Honda was one day(yeah I remember about it) I had a headache, keep attacking carelessly, and sometimes I didn’t even look at the screen (well I actually fell asleep!).

Come on… Honda can only hope that his opponent eat some super, or some special moves by some luck. That’s all what is left to Honda. I doubt he can do anything else… well at least all my human opponent never did anything better, except maybe some lucky hit here and there.

This is one of these game that is as easy to win as Dhalsim vs Blanka. BTW, is Honda really good anyhow? I never met a good Honda…

honda is good. He has strong normals , good cc , stupid airthrow. He can turtle good. When he plays aggresive he looks kinda like bison using his strong normals and overhead. Honda is like bison only bison is better.

Honda good  Play a honda master once I guarantee you won’t fall asleep

i’ve only played one decent Honda so i dunno if it’s the lack of comp or my ability or whatever, but he seems to give Sagat problems. his jump is low enough to sail over the low tiger shots in record time and i think his headbutt flies through either the high or low one, can’t remember. but that’s probably basic stuff i’m just not used to seeing.

as Gen, wouldn’t RK and c.FK > RK work as good pokes? if all else won’t reach go for the sweep, i can’t see what Honda does to that. in close quarters, mash on P to make easy space. Gen can get away with a lot of whiffed (psychic) DPs too. what does Honda use as anti-air? he hasn’t got a shoto style jab and i’m sure the jab headbutt isn’t reliable as his ST or HF one, so just curious bout what he’s doing.

Well I don’t play this matchup often either, but I have to admit that I lost simply because I was trying out what Gen can do to Honda and ate too many close hits. Bleh.

Anyways, I seem to remember that Honda relies on stand fierce as anti-air more than headbutt. I think Honda’s low punches seemed to beat out Gen’s low strong/forward and maybe jab. I’ll have to test that again to be sure.

I totally forgot about trying out the standing pokes and kick style moves. I get to play this game maybe once a year if I’m lucky.

Another thing I remember about the matches I played was that I had trouble getting in close to either chip with hundred pokes or to cross up for a combo. Time for something else I guess.

Thanks for all of your inputs tho. I guess for knowledge sakes I’ll try this matchup again and see how it goes.
