We’re going to be watching this one for a long time, it’s not coming out till fall of this year.
I guess that’s a good thing after seeing what happen to the last game.

I hope they make it so the alien can hear the radar’s sounds, especially in a quiet environment. That would put in a good amount of risk using it since the alien could track you while you use the radar if it’s within hearing distance.
Game was announced end of last year so I’m just happy we’re getting it in 2014. I wouldn’t even be mad if it got delayed to 2015 as long as the delay was to ensure it was polished enough like what’s happening with Shovel Knight.
As a fan of the first two aliens and the franchise in general, I love that people took the time to reach back to the original movie and expand off of that. People complaining about getting caught in the demo tests without an option to get out of said situation need to step back and enjoy the realism injected into this creation. Your basic human runs a little over 20 miles an hour with adrenaline pumping, I’m pretty sure something with a 7-10 foot stride, not including explosive leaps, is going to catch you very very fast. That’s a big plus for me as games seek to push the envelope.
People are funny like that, because they want the graphics cranked up and the realism but they don’t want realistic outcomes to said situations. “These graphics are not what I thought they would be, a little disappointed” but they’re not complaining about the fact they took ten high velocity rounds to the face, are only at half health, and continue to mow down 30+ bad guys as not an issue either. I get it, some games NEED to be like that for good fun but for this game? Nah. Pour on the futility and despair please, it only complements the designer’s intent of a survival horror. Stuck in a room with an angry tiger in a murderous rage and a pen drops on the floor, what are the chances you can get away from it unharmed or alive? Stuck in a room with an advanced killing machine from the darkest depths of space and people want an option to survive if they get spotted? I sincerely HOPE the designers do NOT give people a back up in case they are spotted.
Now let’s say you enter a room and familiarize yourself with your surroundings first and discover things which could become a distraction (Like an unused flare lying on the table) just in case. I could live with that not, “Oh shit I was spotted, good thing there’s a ammo clip on the floor next to me.” Your “reward” should be gaining access to an unexplored area of the ship if you manage to lure the alien out of its usual stalking patterns, while not getting caught, and get it to check around other places.
All that said, after seeing the videos posted here and the dedication of the designers to this franchise, I would LOVE to see a game just like this, with this much tie-in to the orignal based off John Carpenter’s The Thing. Not only survival horror but preying on one of man’s greatest weaknesses like ambiguity and paranoia. Even now I’m thinking you hear someone calling your name down a hall…and you recognize it. Do you go see what the person wants? That person has been out of your sight for an hour. Do you risk running into The Thing posing as a comrade who says they split up from their partner to come find and accompany you? 20 minutes into “helping” you find pieces to restore a trashed generator it transforms and eats you when you are far enough away from the main group. Fingers crossed on a game for this one day.
That’s one of those honestly “sounds good on paper” things though. “Yeah, you shouldn’t have a chance!” doesn’t work out super well in a game. Sure you have your die hards, and I wouldn’t be opposed to a difficulty slider that would take it to that extreme - but there has to be some level of balance in difficulty. The alien does NOT have a track - I’m sure there are a few triggers - but for the most part it’s supposed to be a randomized event. So if by default the slider for ‘attention’ is so high that a pen dropping on table could get the Alien’s attention, then for sheer difficulties sake, there needs to be something to balance that out, especially since - again - you can’t kill it. The crafting element will play a part in this, but to what extent is my question.
Really awesome way of creating sound, these guys are really taking it seriously I mean destroying equipment just to get an old school scratchy sound I wish I could have worked in the foley room for this game.

Wish Prometheus took this approach. That movie, despite dripping with complicated special effects, looked too much like a TV show. No creepy atmosphere.
And even though the Prometheus expedition was “first class” and “1%” compared to the blue-collar characters in Alien, they could’ve still mixed modern future tech like drones and holograms, with 1960s design, to mesh with the Alien franchise’s “DNA.”
Yeah, Prometheus was a big letdown. Anyway looks good.
I’m not going to shoot at Promethius too much, I’m just going to say, it need more alien and less ‘other shit’.

The official site lets out a little more info about the game play than was released by the developers videos: http://www.alienisolation.com/en_us/game-info
It clearly says you can hack systems and craft stuff to face the alien head on…but the developer said themselves there will not be any “lock and load” moment so I’m really curious to see what options you have to actually fight the xenomorph. It sounds like a fine line to balance making the gamer feel helpless and scared while empowering them enough to fight the alien if they choose to do so.
It better have a Vent scene.
Old build but new footage, game is looking GDLK!
I don’t believe these reaction videos because you know you’re being watched and there’s all that equipment in the room so it’s not nearly as scary as actually playing the game at home by yourself in the dark late at night. How many of you talk to yourself like that when playing a game?
Probably handheld flamethrowers and stuff like that. It’d be slightly less rewarding if you couldn’t confront it from time to time. Simply running all day will take some of the scare factor out due to familiarity unless the scripted events/areas keep it up well.
I am excited for the game, I just want it to be better than Amnesia in space, since I found that series to be way overhyped when it comes to scare factor and entertainment.
My goodness. That footage from the IGN video look so fucking amazing! This is definitely my #1 pick for the entire year, and it’s coming out on PC which means I get to enjoy the game in its best quality. Yeah, after E3 I think it’s time for a blackout. Hell, I already don’t need to see anything else, I’m sold. Also, not sure if my body can handle this game. When it comes to horror, especially when something is hunting me in the shadows, I’m like the biggest coward. >_>
Man, those footsteps. I can’t even…

[/quote]Well when you know you’re being recorded for entertainment purposes, of course you’re going to talk to yourself. Having streamed horror games, shit is still pretty damn scary; you just end up talking to yourself a lot to not make things so monotonous.
I talk to myself when I’m by myself, if only to relieve my loneliness.
Other than that, the gameplay looks fabulous. If and when I get money, I will be picking this game up immediately. (Probably won’t finish it because it’s scary, meh) Here’s hoping that it won’t turn up bad.
It is shaping up to be good, I just hope they don’t pull another Aliens: Colonial Marines but I think after all the drama SEGA is back on the right track. I just love that IP (Predator one as well) and feel it should be handled respectfully.
I want a good solo Predator game next.
you guys can love consuming this shit
but im going to be there, its gonna look like this for me
I will tell you the same thing i’m about to type.
This game is made by an entirely different group of people, in an entirely different genre of game.
That’s like someone who didn’t like MGS4 saying “aw man, I hope this Revengeance game isn’t another MGS4” despite being informed about the latter game’s background and seeing gameplay.
I’m not saying this game can’t be bad or anything like that, I’m just saying it won’t have anything to do with the train-wreck that is A:CM.
