I’m just laughing at the women situation becasue i didn’t expect that
this includes
let me sniff shit i shouldn’t be sniffing
let me not fucking go ham on this thing that popped out of my friends back
let me fucking shot at some hydrogen fuel cells
let me explore an uncharted planet with no hazmat suit
let me ignore the fact that this piece of shit just let the hot chick get decapitated (why was that thing eating her)
also, biggest question
where was the other white xenomorph
edit: apperantly it was killed.

also, this throws a wrench on the alien species. 20 years to spread some alien seeds across the universe isn’t enough time.
Well if I wasn’t already disappointed before, apparently there were a ton of scenes left on the cutting room floor that could’ve rounded out all the edges in the character and plot developments:
Although the introduction of these scenes would probably not be a complete save, it would’ve certainly made the film more salvageable and coherent.
Yes i was just surprised you didn’t mention the captain, as he was by far the dumbest character in the movie by a mile. He even…
Spoiler
…Heavily suspected David of foul play yet, took his him at his word that having a closer look at the scary alien egg was “safe”.
The whole Prometheus branch of movies has basically become the “Highlander II” of the Aliens series. Expecting ANYTHING to make sense from this point onward, is simply not a realistic expectation lol.
Ridely Scott is clearly over the hill and taking his own demented direction with the series.
In much the same way you can no longer trust an 80-year old person to reliably operate a vehicle… once a movie director hits a certain age? You CANNOT trust him to handle a movie property with respect. There’s comes a point when it’s time to step away from the director’s chair, regardless of past successes.
Yes he made the original Alien…but that was 38 years ago! The ridely Scott of today is not the same person and should no longer be allowed creative control over a such a series.
These scenes were all on youtube before they released the film, in fact they were all posted in this thread. Watching them beforehand didn’t improve the film in any way.
Yes, I’m aware as I watched most of them, and they were disjointed enough to lose whatever impact they were intended to have before the films release. My point is, had some of these scenes been placed into the film it would’ve made the story a bit richer for the general audience, who likely didn’t watch every prologue or snippet, allowing to them get more of an understanding of the characters and the events leading up to what we saw in the full film.
Hell,
Spoiler
It wasn’t until the cigar smoking Mexican soldier started sobbing over the death of that idiot redbeard who stuck his face in front of a spore-emitting alien organism, that I remembered that they were supposed to be a gay couple…
Not after covenant. All the promises Prometheus made and what it tried to build upon? Stick a fork in it because it’s DONE.
That wasn’t David in the ship hovering above the city… that was Ridly Scott hitting the ‘delete’ button on anything and everything engineer related. Prometheus was just a huge waste of time in the end afterall.
Now you’re telling me that you saw the additional scenes but they still didn’t change your overall view of the film, which is exactly my point. The general audience thought it was a decent film. They’re not the one’s complaining about the movie because they don’t know what a decent movie is.
It may surprise you to learn that the average/casual movie-goer also enjoyed Highlander II back in the day when it was released also. You see, it’s EASY not to take issue with a property they know little about and think the fans are silly for the uproar.
But like Highlander II, anyone that knows anything about the series? Realizes what a huge slap in the face that Alien Covenant was. Not just to the original Aliens series but, also to the side-branch Prometheus tried to create.
Like it or hate it, Prometheus has some pretty good ideas that many were hoping would be explored properly. Sad how they hit the breaks so soon and tried to sweep Prometheus under the rug like that.
Alien Covenant is basically a mid-trilogy reboot. W-T-F.
I see that intergalactic explorers still don’t give a fuck about protective environmental gear while exploring a strange alien planet and inspect everything their their faces.
[details=Spoiler] This movie was crap. The xenomorph origin was terribly done. I don’t even think it was necessary. Now the entire alien mythos is just… ruined. I was perfectly okay with the aliens were just always there… a force of nature that’s been around since the dawn of time.
But no… they are just Dr. Moreau experiments done by an android. [/details]
You completely misunderstood my point. I know the general public have no idea what a good movie is. Whiteshadow was suggesting that they needed to be catered to and I disagree.
Regarding the second one, no offense to Rob Paulsen, but getting a guy mostly known for Raphael in the campy 1987 TMNT sets the wrong vibe for an Alien themed commercial. I almost expected a pizza to be thrown into the camera at some point lol.
It intrigues me that R-rated movies could have toys made much less in the 1970’s (I knew there were Roboocop toys, but I never saw any Terminator ones though when growing up)
Actually I got an alien figure circa 1993 for my birthday and that was my first exposure to the franchise.
I saw Aliens maybe a year or so later at a friends house and I was half in awe and half scared shitless.
I didnt even know it was the second film in a series or any of the life cycle specifics so it was like opening Pandora’s box.
Starting with Resurrection, I started watching alien centric films in the theatre, but I guess people my parents age probably had the best experiences with the first 2.
I have only the Alien and aliens films on bluray.
It’s similar to Terminator in that its glory days ended after the first two.
I don’t watch horror at all, but I always liked the design of the creature in thats it’s scary and “beautiful” in a way.
my cousins actually got me that 1979 Alien toy in 1979. i even remember the day they gave it to me and the box.
damn toy scared the ever loving shit out of me.
gave me nightmares.
no.
i had not seen the movie.
and never really saw the movie till…1989 on vcr along with Aliens same day.
but the toy was really creepy. it was a creepy gift.
i sincerely wondered if my cousins secretly hated me.
the clear plastic thing on its head was removable and i dont know what happened to it.
amazing looking replica of the xenomorph though, for a toy. of its time.
no i dont still have it or any of my toys.
sadly.
i saved the comic books i had…about 500 comics thinking they would be worth something and threw my toys out.
sadly.
the toys i had were worth something and the comic books ended up being 100% worthless.
the xenomorph 1979 toy is worth between 150 to 200 now i think without the box.
whatever.
edit
actually now that i see the vid i remember my toy had the ability to produce the little 2nd mouth when you pulled the trigger under his head like the kid does. i’ll assume for the sake of the commercial someone removed the little 2nd mouth.
You quoted me but added Alpha Charlie’s name. And actually if some of those scenes were in the movie, it would’ve at least softened the blow for the rest of the grievances I would have to deal with throughout the film.
Anyway, having a rating of 6.9 on imdb, a 6.6 on meta critic, and 63% audience score (even lower than the pro critic score) on rotten tomatoes isn’t what I call acclaim from general audiences, it sounds more like “meh”. This is a movie made by an acclaimed director BTW and not some run of the mill cash grab either where a sub-7 rating is seen as passable like Hitman.
And I foresee that the ratings are going to go down slowly but steadily once the air clears. So yes there seems to be a significant number of moviegoers who had problems with the film, probably for the aforementioned reasons I stated.
I’ve already talked to friends and coworkers (i.e., casual fans) and even they are relatively disappointed with the film especially with Shaw’s demise and can only really cite the visuals as the main draw.
Lol. I bet 99%of the audience didn’t even know or remember that they were guys, so even then, Fission Mailed.
