Huh? The Warden was the only stand out character in that trash. And the black preacher/rapist who lured the dogalien into the lead cast. Come to think of it that entire movie was pretty unredeemable except for the fact it was the earliest example of the xenomorph using its host DNA to dictate its final form. Indeed one can argue that we got Alien 3 to thank for the silver bullet to the brain that was AvP.
Resurrection is hands-down the best of the series. I mean, Ron Perlman? “You hang with us for a while, you’ll find out I am not the man with whom to fuck!”
Ridley always intended that the Alien takes on traits from the host, so that idea originates from Alien.
Also that Black Preacher “Dillon” is shakespeare compared to the cardboard cutouts of Aliens. The speech he gave at Hicks and Newt’s funeral was so good and emotive, it almost makes you glad they died just so you could get that scene. There’s also “I AIN’T MUCH FOR BEGGING!!!”
The Golic “Dragon” subplot is also memorable and was restored to its full glory in the Assembly Cut.
I recently upgraded to the Alien Anthology blu-ray set which is basically the old Alien Quadrilogy set on steroids. My god, the audio-visuals of the first two films are quintessential examples of how to fucking remaster a movie. It’s like watching the movies all over again. Just beautiful.
Alien3 and Resurrection didn’t benefit as much from the restoration but still superior in every way to previous releases.
All the extra material from the Quadrilogy is intact, including all the delicious Alien3 extra (albeit the documentary was restored to be more objective instead of favoring the studio).
Mother/muther has been one of my favorite ‘villains’ in sci-fi. I can see her fucking shit up at the end of this film and setting up the events of LV-426.
One theory suggests that the colonists aboard the covenant are actually the colonists of Hadely’s hope and It was all Muther’s doing.
So happy she is back. She is gonna make the AI Dave look like a tamagotchi.
I bet David and Walter switch places at some point during the film.
The film had it’s premier in London this week and in Korea a few days ago. I’m hearing good thing so far. Some random reporter who interviewed Fassbender said she loved it but we can’t take her opinion seriously because she said this in-front of the cast. From what I’ve heard so far people are saying this film has so many wtf twists in it, and the Xenomorphs are far more scarier than than Neomorphs, I can’t wait until next thursday.
I’ll be travelling to Berlin for work next week and won’t be able to watch it for til the 17th. So I’m gonna start a black out on reviews and stuff. But my hopes are really high (I tried to keep them under control really).
I also bet that David and Walter will switch, but it will be interesting to see if it will be voluntary.
My current theories for the movie are:
Spoiler
That wasn’t Paradise, but one of their many colonies.
David did it because he loves Shaw and wants to spare her the horror of the truth. Or as an act of vengeance against the Engineers for what he discovered about them and their intentions.
The biomechanical looking adult Xenomorph/Protomorph is the result of a facehugger formed/forged out of human/Black DNA that impregnates another Human host. It’s possible that the Xeno eggs originated or were forged out of eggs from Shaw’s ovaries but grown externally rather than internally.
Neomorphs are Xenomorphs that result from a human impregnated by xenoplant spores (which are essentially “Eggs” forged out of plant/Black DNA).
We essentially find out for certain in this film that the Black Accelerant merges, hybridizes, and hijacks any biological/organic DNA it touches. Then corrupts that biological creatures’ reproductive lifecycle to reproduce itself as a complex lifeform. It repeats this indefinitely so long as it can find a host (on a genetic level) to taint and redirect its evolution.
Hence why the Xenomorph we know and love is but one of the infinite possible variations of this ‘species’. Although if we were to try to classify them based on our own scientific animal classification, they do not fit into anything.
I hesitate to say they are their own domain but they could precede eukaryotic cells even.
“The Black Goo”, Accelerant/Mutagen, or Black DNA is essentially the most fundamental and original form of the Xenomorphs. Calling it Primorph or Omnimorph would be more accurate probably, since from it the Aliens can essentially take on any biological form be it plant-like, Bacteria-like, fungus-like, virus-like, insect-like, mammal-like, etc.
David and Walter will switch.
Everyone is going to die but David.
Shaw is still alive but may die in the film.
Since the events of Alien start soon after Covenant. MUTHUR will redirect the Nostromo and the Covenant to LV-426 based on information acquired from David. Nostromo gets their first because they’re closer by chance, followed by the Covenant colonists a few decades later who establish Hadley’s Hope and die.
The Space Jockey on LV-426 died escaping one of the world’s that David fucked up. I think they will retcon the detail about it being fossilized.
The Engineers themselves are actually extinct by the end of Covenant.
the more trailers and sneak peaks they drop the more i believe this film is going to be wack. i’ll still check it out though just in case some calves drop.
OK, even though I tend to break easily I’m not watching anymore trailers. I was just watching a really strange/disturbing trailer with David which possibly gives away a really huge twist in the movie so I turned it off mid way. I’ll wait until thursday…
Reviews so far:
Here is what JoBlo Editor-In-Chief Paul Shirey had to say about it.
My hopes aren’t high for this one. Since it’s been a whopping 31 years since this franchise had a good movie, and my faith in Ridely Scott was severely diminished after the cinematic crime that was Prometheus.
The only gripe I have about covenant from what I’ve seen so far in the trailers is the cgi at certain moments I just hope it looks better when I watch it in the cinema.
