Alien Covenant / Prometheus / Aliens / AvP / Discussion Thread

How is it anymore random then what the movie throws at the viewer? Hmmm you like to gloss over the details don’t you? Its kinda pointless having a discussion when you ignore most of my points…

It didn’t appear to me that there was a whole lot of time between the c-section and everyone going to meet the space jockey. I guess David could’ve been like “what about the baby…?” (pretty sure noone else knew much about it), but ultimately he still serves Weyland and Weyland seemed more interested in trying to preserve his own life. I assume they would’ve got back to the tentacle thing had they not all got peaced out.

I’m surprised so many people are still upset by the lack of realism in Shaw running around after the c-section scene. I mean really, who cares? Its one of the most intense portions of the movie, so surely no one expected everybody to just take a break for a few months while she recovered. I’d say the only thing more awesome than the med-pod abortion was the guard gun-butting her in the belly no more than a few hours after the shit happened. Bitch got no love whatsoever for the rest of the movie lol

Because you aren’t giving any points?

What sense would it make for David to infect everyone? What sense would it make for David to do anything that would expose him as an enemy to everyone else? I mean why not just walk up to the pool table and smash one of the glass canisters against the guy’s head?

He was dealing with the old man during the c-section part. As I said, you want to say David is doing random things, tell me exactly what he did that was random.

That paragraph of your what if’s are very random and make no sense at all. He was following the old man’s orders pure and simple, and we aren’t necessarily suppose to know what the true orders were which is why we only heard “try harder”, just like we aren’t suppose to know what he actually tried to say to the engineer.

Yeah seriously. I don’t get these gripes. It’s like complaining that a civil war movie isn’t realistic enough because it isn’t 70% soldiers lying next to latrines waiting to die.
I think the whole setup with David on the ship - watching movies, reading dreams, playing all of the crew against each other - was his own jealousy of their humanity. He wanted to be more human and everything he does stems from that. Ironically, Vickers is jealous of David because of his relationship with the old man.

Yeah, like the look on his face when the old man holograph remarked how he wasn’t human and could never be like them.

This is why AI is a bad thing.

Why the hell would David want ‘revenge’? Revenge for what? He’s a robot!

Cause he’s shown he has the ability to think. If it wasn’t revenge, then why choose the only guy on the ship that’s been a complete douche bag to him?

I’d suspect David targeting Holloway had more to do with him being hammered than any kinda personal vendetta. Just an easy target, and someone he’d be around often enough to observe the effects of the alien virus on.

None of you got the feeling David was still a child? I had the feeling he hadn’t really matured. He displayed envy and at the same time wanted to be loved and admired, he wanted to be considered special or at least equal (remember what he says about wearing a suit).

As Coth_X pointed out, look at his body language when the old man says he’s the closest thing he’d ever have to a son, then look how it changes when he tells them he’ll never understand how it is to be human.

Look who is washing the old man’s feet, David

Look at David’s expression when the Engineer places his hand against his cheek, he looked like a child finally getting admiration from it’s father.

I think what the Engineer does to David and the old man dieing taught David a huge life lesson. Here was a man who created him despite being a machine it seems he was treated like a human son, now he is dead. On top of that in a sense the old man was looking for his creator/father but he turned out to be a monster. To quote David “Safe journey Sir” almost sounded like empathy.

David is helping Elizabeth because he finally understands her.

I’m starting to think David is far more advanced than any of the future androids we see in the later films. But this maybe due to being raised by the old man.

Pretty much all of this.

Also, I got the impression that NOBODY respected David, not simply Holloway.

Actually, if anything, Holloway was the crew member who showed David THE MOST respect, by engaging him in conversation, as if he were of an intellectual level. Not just knowledgeable, or a Rolodex of information, mind you - but of an intellectual level.

Haha, “if you hate this movie, you should probably stop watching movies”

Jesus was an engineer sent here to check up on us and try to guide us back on the right path and we killed him. Engineers were like OH NO THEY DIDNT and were on their way back to clean house.

I hate this movie so I should probably stop watching movies I guess…

good movie had its moments nice little nod to his other works not going too boo hoo on it.

The point is she didn’t react at all. In fact, apart from Vickers, no one else reacted to any of the crazy bull shit that happened. At least 3 members die and no one bats an eye lid. The only argument you can actually make here is oh it was cut…which is very lame considering how many empty strands there are in this film.

By actually addressing those points, you’d actually have a better movie as it would fit with the themes of life and death already present in the film in addition to fleshing out the characters. As is, death has no impact so you don’t give a damn about the guy who just died (nor the dozen after). The morbidness and gore factor is there, but there’s no tension and no drama. Every single character is relegated to cannon fodder status because the characterization is piss poor. Shaw not reacting to the fact that she just aborted an alien spawn (despite saying it’s not physically possible for her to conceive in the first place) is a prime example of that.

Yeah RS said that was the original reason right? Now we’ve got fuck all to go on. But it’s probably the same as it’s been in EVERY form of media when E.Ts try to kill us. It’s cos humanity is destructive/ self destructive.

Yeah I agree with you, the deaths didn’t really seem to be that meaningful because the characterizations were (for the most part) pretty empty. You see people getting offed and no one even seems to bat an eye. The Captain is frickin’ chillin, sippin on his coffee. no one seems to be quite as freaked out enough like they should be.

And since I didn’t really care for any of the characters (the closest was Shaw and David), it made it harder to build tension. Couple this with some questionable decisions and weird plot-holes, and it just feels violent without a point. There wasn’t enough humanity in the video.

Weyland’s inclusion and random appearance was just odd too. People don’t seem to react at all to the fact he’s still living.

Jesus Space Jockey is the gayest fucking idea ever.

Yes, please, let us make a movie riding the nuts of one of bloodiest, most savagely evil mental disorders to ever afflict mankind.

Awesome.

Sci-fi lite.

It was bizarre how much of big deal Ridley seemed to make out of Vickers revelation scene that she is the daughter, I think everyone figured it out at the beginning of the movie during the briefing lol

As a bald male with pale white skin in somewhat decent shape, this movie was a huge ego boast for me!

Also I have a feeling women will end up hating this movie considering it kind of slams female biology…like pregnancy compared to a viral infestation resulting in a abortion lol.
