Alien Covenant / Prometheus / Aliens / AvP / Discussion Thread

I’ve just watched Prometheus. I wont give anything away but i will say there definitely will be a sequel.

^ a couple of questions to those who have watched already:

  • is it good?
  • has the trailer shown some major spoilers?
  • is it worth it to watch it on 3d?

yeah it’s good, not the best movie this year though
how they dealt with the marketing and the internet is fantastic
you wont really notice the 3D much but it’s better that way

Its good but very confusing. It explains who the space jokeys are, and the origin and purpose of the xenomorphs, but I still have no idea who the space jockey at the beginning of Alien1 is. I dont think Prometheus is a direct prequel to Alien(1), we’ll need another movie for that and I hope there is because Prometheus leaves far too many questions unanswered.

in my opinion the trailers do not reveal any major spoilers. some of the clips/virals we’ve seen were not in the film, e.g. Guy Pearce lecturing the audience.

3d to me is a gimmick, dont watch ANY film in 3d if you dont have to because it will effect the clarity of the image. I watched Prometheus in 3d because i had no other choice, it certainly did not enhance the viewing experience.

I agree, prometheus is the beginning of Metroid

that question about alien 1, they did explain lol

we know what happened to the space jockey in Alien1, [spoiler=]but we didnt see him in Prometheus.

lol, someones already posted the last few minutes of the movie and…[spoiler=]people are baffled, and even complaining about the size of the alien as it emerges from the…[/spoiler]

Did you stay till the end of the credits?

Spoiler

WEYLAND INDUSTRIES 10.11.12

I’m going to watch the movie again because I have so many questions and mixed emotions.

One conclusion I have is that the Space Jockeys/Engineers

are space Nazi’s

Ninja Edit: Prometheus doubles up as a huge plot reveal for Halo 4

Ninja Editx2: Can’t sleep, still thinking about this film lol

[details=Spoiler] If Nolan is the story teller then Ridley is the artist, I can’t remember the last film I saw that was this well polished, the attention to details was just astounding. That’s not to say the movie was perfect, there are issues with the script and how certain events play out.

I had 3 issues

#1 two team members that get left behind, somehow despite leaving the group to return to the ship get themselves lost, end up left behind. These guys crap themselves at every sound but then suddenly when confronted with an alien life form (the worm) they suddenly grow a pair and get themselves killed.

#2 the Engineer vs Dr Elizabeth, this scene ended far too quickly, it was too convenient that she had the giant facehugger in one room when the Engineer attacked. After the suspenseful last half hour I was really expect some epic final showdown when David says “He’s coming for you!”.

How would that scene play out if the Engineer knew the facehugger was there???

#3 Guy Pearce was a disappointment, there really wasn’t much for his character to do other than die.
[/details]

This movie’s very silly. Lots of dumb things happen and there’s only one interesting character. I’ll elaborate later, but I didn’t think it was very good.

i’m not entirely sure now that you mention it [details=Spoiler]…did the credits appear after the ship flys off?.. before it cuts to the space jockey having that seizure… then we see the alien?.. that was the last thing i saw…[/details]

I’m watching it again tomorrow for the exact same reason, hopefully in 2d this time. the 3d glasses made some of the scenes appear far darker (in the visual sense not subject matter) than they were supposed be, i had to occassionally remove them just to see what was going on. I rewatched alien(1) in HD last night and it looked a lot clearer/sharper than Prometheus.

[spoiler=]could you make sense of the opening scene, did it intentionally kill itself? i’m still wondering how that connects to the storyline.

i wonder what the android said to the space jockey before it went nuts… [/details]

Quick question: I’ve seen Aliens, Alien 3 thru AvP2.
But I have never seen Alien. Should I catch it before Prometheus, since Prometheus is a semi-prequel to it.

Yes, watch it. But expect a slow pace film.

i’d say watch it after you watch prometheus.

Spoiler

the pilots willingly killing themselves to stop the space jockey did seem rather odd.

What I want to know, is there any point in the movie where Charlize Theron is naked?

That’s the least of this movie’s problems, especially in terms of character decisions.

Nope after that scene the credits for about 5 minutes, you see it right at the end where the movie studio logos are meant to appear.

Spoiler

I don’t know why I didn’t think of that, good point David has been completely untrustworthy throughout the movie.
He said every child dreams of killing their parents, which I assumed meant that he had been watching Vickers’ dreams. And it becomes more apparent as things play out that he isn’t following orders but rather pursuing his own curiosity.

That first scene of the Engineer apparently killing itself really throws the rest of the movie into a loop, at this point I knew that okay so this is where we came from, but then later why do they try to exterminate us?
The way it kills David makes me think, David believes he is superior and told the engineer that he was built by the humans. The Engineer passes judgement and deems him to garbage and the humans unworthy of the role of creators, which is ultimately the Engineer’s purpose - to create perfection.

I’m wondering what the American press will say about this movie once they see the abortion scene, everyone in the cinema (including myself) seemed to be on the edge of their seat grimacing

I remembered another problem I had, there was probably a lot of thought behind this but I couldn’t think of a good reason why

Spoiler

#4 ship’s navigation, before David figures out the groves in the wall are controls, but when you get to the pilot’s chair there is a flute and soft boiled egg control panels

#5 Annoyingly loud and Star Wars like soundtrack

IMO 3D is not worth the extra money if you aren’t watching in IMAX. The movie looks stunning.

references to Yutani, the smart gun, the lifter suit, and a lot of other stuff.

cant wait to see this movie, Alien and Predator are my 2 favorite sci-fi movie series’(AVP1,Predator 2, and Alien Resurrection didn’t happen, fuck those movies)

Synapse Reestablisher = Guy Pierce confirmed for sequel
