I’m glad to hear that we have a good crowd coming.
I’ll be bringing all the SNK goodies as well as some infamously bad titles (CVE BABY!)

I think you may have taken it the wrong way, there is a difference between giving guff and hating, and I saw that as more as giving guff.
I know it’s a long drive, and the competition isn’t so great, but at the same time it’s a laxed environment and great for playing other titles. True the more serious titles are 3rd Strike and GG, but it’s not like some bigotry towards the MvC2 crowd, but then again it’s like Halo players and CS: source players, sometimes we don’t all get along.

When the sam hell did I Hate on Marvel? I LIKE playing Marvel, but it is apparent that I am not as good at the game as I would like to be.* (long story short, I experienced a competition gap when I moved out of Houston to coming here, and if you would like to discuss that in greater detail so you can understand where I am coming from, I would be more than happy to discuss that with you like a Civilized adult.)*

Why would I “eyeball” you? Do you think I’m going to come up and start drama with you? Do you think I am expecting an irrational dispute over a fucking video game? Ask anyone that really knows me…I am always crackin’ jokes on games and shit (regardless of whether or not I like them)…it’s all in fun, hell…I even laugh at myself when I fuck up in a game or something…shit is not that serious man…don’t take it to heart.

When have I ever badmouthed ANYTHING to you, much less spoken directly to you about anything in particular? Only thing I can think of is the brief moment where I was hooking up the Dreamcast for you guys and probably introductions…outside of that, all you kids did at Jim’s party was play Marvel the WHOOOOOOOOOOOLE time and didn’t come out of that room for jack shit. (George did though…go George) While I thought that was a little fucked up…it’s merely speculation…it could have been a shitload of really good fights for all I know. Only reason I didn’t join in is because you’re a Top tier (in terms of skill) player, and I am of a much lower level compared to you, so I would’ve been nothing more than a waste of time. While I understand a lot of the gameplay aspects, I am not proficient enough with them to be up to par with you guys (While I can learn…a lot of the higher caliber characters are characters I don’t like…so there’s little incentive for me to learn them)

If I were super defensive about people coming to CAD, I would badmouth everyone that couldn’t/wouldn’t come out and throw bitchfits all night…I mean shit, did you NOT just see what I said to Yosh? I feel that way about everyone…I do not give them grief for not quite feelin’ like comin’ out for whatever reason, or if they have other plans. If something came up, then something came up…there’s always next week. This shit is NOT that serious. (it should NEVER be that damn serious)

Also, I’m not attacking Nickels…I’m pointing out the bad things that happen when going there sometimes…it is a shitty feeling to take the time and gas money, or public transportation money out to go there, only to find that shit isn’t working (and I know you have dealt with this yourself, so you know where I’m coming from in saying that.) If shit is working, then good…a fun time is had by all, and playing fighting games in an arcade is much better than playing on console, I will admit to this wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, this is not the current state of affairs with Nickel City or any local arcade for that matter…so we as a community will do what we can to get our games in and our skills up. It is also unfortunate that I had a conversation with Amar that put a lot of things in perspective, and not necessarily in a good way. (Ask Jim about it…he knows…)

I don’t hate Nickel city…I’m not hating on anyone that would want to go there…I’m hating on the situation, and it pisses me off that there doesn’t seem to be much of a positive change happening to the place.

With that said, I appreciate that you respect what it is I am trying to do here, and I respect that you are attempting to do the same and I hope it goes well for you, I really do.

Okay, this needs to stop.

What Geronimo said, for the most part, is true. I’m sorry to say, Kenny, but the majority of us (at least some of the GG players like myself, Aric, Jim, Yosh, Andy) are actually doing CAD a FAVOR by going there and supporting the “scene”. We can easily all play each other at a much CENTRALIZED location (for example, at Jim’s), rather than driving 1+ hours to Algonquin.

Which is the funny thing. What “scene” are we talking about, really? The truth is, WE are the scene. WE bring it to CAD. There isn’t really a backbone of local, Algonquin-based players that we play against. This is what it usually ends up as: Me, Aric, Jim, Yosh, and Andy repeatedly playing each other, while some of the other new faces don’t even bother playing. Again, we can be doing the SAME thing, elsewhere! Somewhere much closer to home. If I didn’t have my own car, I probably wouldn’t go to CAD, either.

Be honored that Ari (Floe) even came out there once, to play! Is he ever gonna come back again? Who knows. But I think you already know the answer to this one…

Driving 45 minutes to Nickel City is way, way different. Why? Because arcades are a rare and dying breed, and the arcade ATMOSPHERE and EXPERIENCE alone are worth the drive. It simply cannot be replicated anywhere else, unless “anywhere else” itself is an arcade. Compare that to the atmosphere of CAD… which is basically an atmosphere that we can recreate at someone else’s house.

Learn to accept the truth. A competitive “village” is only really willing to travel to ANOTHER village if there’s COMPETITION to raise our skill level with… or at the very least, competition that’s willing to LEARN and IMPROVE. None of this “I don’t play fighting games to be the best in the nation, much less the world” mentality BS. There’s really no easy or polite way to say it, but the audience that you’re trying to attract to CAD find it a WASTE of time to practice and train their signature game in a “casual, fun” environment. Why? Because the majority of us already find high level, tournament play as FUN, anyway!

And yet, we go to CAD anyway. Why? Perhaps some of us are really just losers with nothing to do on a Friday night. Which isn’t true, because some of us are actually capable of doing something else on a Friday night OTHER than video games. But “doing CAD a favor” and “supporting the scene” sure sound more positive, doesn’t it?

You probably didn’t realize it, Kenny, but you simultaneously called out the Chicago Marvel scene, inadvertently implied them as being “lazy” (or “cheap”, however you want to call it) to TRAVEL all the way to CAD because they wouldn’t play people such as you, Frankie, Mario, Roger, etc., and even DIRECTLY called all the Chicago Marvel players as snobs. That’s not cool, because you’re basically implying that your LEVEL of Marvel skill is ENOUGH REASON for them to come out, travel 1+ hours, and challenge you… laziness and cheapness withstanding.

Let me tell you a story. Team UIC (a group of gamers that used to go to UIC) is very much like the group that you see now, at CAD. It was a group that consisted of myself, Bozac, Aric, Allen (you don’t know him), and Lex (you don’t know him). We started out as casual gamers. We started out as UIC’s “game club”. Heck, call us SCRUBS. But we worked very hard with Guilty Gear. And dare I say, we actually got good on our OWN. We challenged some of the Nickel City regulars to one of our own tournaments. And lo and behold, Team UIC dominated the tournament. It caught the Nickel City regulars off guard because they expected to WIN, coming into the tournament. So what happened? They came back regularly to play us. The rest, of course, is history.

It’s not a selfish request. Be GOOD enough for them to travel 1+ hours, and they’ll probably come out. I’ve basically laid down a very good business plan for CAD for YOU, so if you want more competitive, tournament-level players coming out there, take my advice. If not, then go find your own backbone of LOCAL Algonquin gamers who are willing to play fighting games on a casual level. This shouldn’t be too hard, right? And I take it, this is your JOB for CAD, anyway? Seems to me you haven’t been doing that job very well, especially since you live around the area. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s true, Kenny, you have a nice thing going with CAD (the effort and good intentions are admirable), but try to remember that without us, CAD is really nothing. So tone it down a bit with the name calling, will ya? Some of those people that you called “snobs” have EARNED THEIR RIGHT to be snobs. They have had tournament experience and wins to back up their snobbish faces. It’s not gonna help your cause any better to be calling them names.

Maybe I took it outta context, or jus’ had selective hearing about this kinda shit…but seriously, at Jim’s party, every time you were in the room, and weren’t playing 3S, you were saying something negative about Marvel. And it wasn’t directly to me, because seriously, I don’t think we’ve ever said more than 3 words to each other, in passing at a time. It was more in conversation to whoever else also happened to be watching at the time. I mean, it wasn’t direct…but we did still hear you, even if we’re supposed to be concentrating on the match(es). And that stuff is a “downer”/discourage-er (yeah, not a real word, but I hope you get what I mean) for those of us playing Marvel, on top of being a distraction.

That’s, more or less, what I meant by “eyeball” as well…poor word selection on my part.

And as for us not leaving the room the whole time that night…in retrospect, I actually agree that that is a little fucked up of us. But to tell you the truth, I don’t think any of us were hungry, nor had to use the bathroom. On top of that, none of us play AC or GH (other than George)…so we didn’t have much reason to leave really. But again, in retrospect, we shoulda left to hang out w/ Jim and socialize and what not. No argument there.

However, for the record, I left Marvel and also played 3S for a good chunk of the night  . And I do remember having a shot w/ Quiba when we got there :bgrin:.

However, I still stand on that “super-defensive” thing. You probably don’t mean it intentionally…but I’m talking about the tone of your posts. You come off a bit harsh.

And I’ll also agree on the situation at Nickels…to an extent. This is because, yeah, whenever we go, something’s usually busted. But from my experience…if we bug Amar or “Muscles,” it usually gets fixed. But I also understand, which Jim has pointed out numerous times, that Amar is trying to run a business. And as unfortunate and as much as we don’t want to admit it, fighters don’t have the same kinda draw/earning potential they used to. For the dear love of god, let’s hope SFIV changes that.

I’ll be the first to admit that I let this [argument] get a bit out of hand. The only reason I posted was to try to save Chris the trip of going all the way up there, and end up being the best [Marvel player] there. Could I have been nicer about it and probably worded it better…? Most definitely. And that’s my bad. The point is, I can’t speak for him, but I go to gatherings to play people better than me and hopefully learn/improve something. It’d be safe to assume, that probably won’t be the case if he goes. Or, what most likely will happen, is that people will [try to] play for a bit, get stomped on, then go play something else. Or, on the flipside of that is that, Chris (or whoever else goes) keeps winning, then jus’ gets bored because it’s too easy. At most, the longest this cycle can last is 1-2 hrs.

And yes, I do realize the irony in that we, “Marvel-concentrated,” (i.e. those of us who play Marvel as our main game) players don’t go, because they have no one to play against (and vise versa). But what really sucks is that a solid Marvel community really can’t/won’t form there because there is no one there to teach/hand out asswhoopin’s.

So yeah…I do support what you’re trying to accomplish here, Kenny. More power to you. But the location is a HUGE deterrent. And, unless a group of at least 2-3 “Marvel-concentrated” players start going, who are willing to teach and can play more than Marvel (which aren’t many of us), it wouldn’t be worth it for any to come out.

Jus’ my $.02.

EDIT #1: It took me too long to come up w/ a reply and Quiba beat me to it . QUIBATIME!

EDIT #2: I didn’t know what Jim meant by that whole “naked guy” thing…but I’m on SRK at a PC at school now. And…WTF is that?!

Well it seems that both parties have used me as a neutral reference (yay I’m fucking switzerland), so I’ll “put my .02 in”.

Kenny already knows I disagree with him on the majority of his “fighting game ethics”, but it’s a pointless arguement and we leave it at that. Mike I respect you as a player, but I really think you were out of line on that post, especially when you’ve never even made an effort to make it out once. We all know it’s far, but there are numerous people from around your area that go…jose, dennis and I could possibly give rides if you took a train or something and met up.

On the arguement of comp, I do agree with you, especially if you are looking to play only marvel. There is kennys arguement that if you come out and start handing beatdowns people will want to learn and get better. It cannot be done at this point in time. Marvel takes way too much time to learn, and I’m sorry, but I will flat out say none of the cad people are or would ever make that big of a commitment to learning an old game.

Concerning Kenny personally, I’ve never known him to seriously hate on a game. If anything, he LIKES every game too much. Sometimes he does imply that he knows more about a game then he actually does, but we all do that sometimes…even though it isn’t a good thing. I believe this is why you may have took some general comment he said about tiers the wrong way.

As for nickels, people keep saying that he is telling people not to go there (Jose, BeatsoDevil, and now you). Even going as far as saying he and the people at cad are killing the scene. I don’t get where people keep getting this from. If anything he has encouraged people to do both, suggesting cad as an alternative if you don’t like nickels equipment. You three are the ones getting defensive for some reason about some “new gathering place” taking people away from the old. Nickels has done this to itself, not kenny. Direct your hate where it is deserved.

Lastly, concerning the party, this is just stupid and should have never been brought up. A party is a party. Do whatever you want. If you have a problem with someone, all you gotta do is let them know. The end.

EDIT: I was at work when I typed up the original post and somehow missed the original spark that set it off and proceeded to read mike’s hate.

as addressed in my original post, there is no way cad people can learn marvel. not now. mike wasn’t being a snob in any way, he was pointing out the obvious. if ya can’t deal with it, don’t get mad at him. he plays marvel at a competitive level. cad players you listed play for shits & giggles. and hence you have 2 different definitions of “marvel players”.

I play Kof…

Hmm:wonder:

Well, problem is there won’t always be solid competition for the games you want there to be competition for. I’m a die-hard KOF fan (98 specifically) and I played the hell out of it, I’m not the best best, but I’ve far surpassed the CPU being a challenge, but there is never an interest in KOF (which is fair considering SNK fighters are a bit niche, even for a niche community like fighter fans), but I still dig coming out for the more casual games of Street Fighter and other stuff.

I completely get where you are coming from, it sucks to go somewhere hoping for solid competition in your game and not having it, but at the same time it’s a good chance to play other titles as well at a level you can handle, and when solid hardcore competition does come out it’s great to play against. I personally do enjoy getting my ass handed to me in a game because it allows me to get a sense of what a real player does first hand, and not just watching vids. It’s a learning yadda yadda yadda PBS related shit experience.

As for distance, I can offer rides for anyone that can take the train to the Fox River Grove station (leaves from ogilvie (sp?) ). I think the latest train is at like 12.30 or something, and I’ll be in town around 6.45 7ish. The station is a 10 minute drive to CAD so I’m willing to offer lifts, at least this time since I am in town.

@Riot. I think we should start planning a big event for November/December a “MinEvo”. 5-10 dollar buy in for GG, SF3, MvC2, SuperT, and Smash (for moneys sake). If we start now the news will spread over time and we can hopefully get a big tournout. November 16th would be good, since that is the Saturday that starts my Thanksgiving break.

i’m a marvel player i use trombone and morrigen

damn this place is like only 45 mins away from me, I thought it was farther

SNKZato you live like 30-35 mins from me only

Alright I"m not sure if I"m gunna go tonight or what. I’m still deciding it depends on how things work out with female.:bgrin::bluu::bgrin:

But if I do go Kenny is gunna come pick me up than I’ll just chill at Cad. Also Chris if you do come out to Cad for my sake bring a stick I’m getting bored of PAD play.:wonder:

If anyone has any questions or wants to learn Marvel I’ll teach what I can to the full extent of my knowledge(Just to throw this out there I don’t know how to any of the fucking infinites so don’t ask please) all I ask is that you come to me with a open mind and a will to take the time and dedication to learn a fast paced game like this and learn from a 15 year old adolescent Mexican kid. Also Jim I don’t play Marvel for shits and giggles I play on a highly competitive level it’s just since there’s no fucking Ps2> DC converters or no one has a DC stick I can’t play/teach them. Cause PAD on Marvel is horrible I still can’t believe I use one(Hence the reason I ordered an Agetec earlier this week yay!!!). I seriously want to get a Marvel scene out here but I don’t have the proper equipment and I haven’t seen anyone up for it. I rest my case…for now.

That’s all I got for now till than peace out hope I can make it out there tonight.

-Frankie

P.S. Kenny don’t forget to call me to see whats good kay?
In case you forgot my # 630-967-8640

yea…my bad for bringing up marvel??? just wanted to note that im not that good of a marvel player as with 3s but i know the basics. im prolly just gonna drink with the buddies today. maybe next week frankie. ill teach you the mag inf if anything.

It’s basically a BYOC so be my guest it can help and you minas well.

Chris- Aw man >.< Oh well. I appreciate the offer but I"m not that much of a Mag fan if you know the IM Inf now that would help.:lovin:

-Frankie

Wont be there tonight fellas. See some of you scrubs tomorrow.

I <3 Jim…he’s one of my favorite white people. And I apologize for using your party as part of my argument. 'Cuz in the end, we all still had a lot of fun that night (except for what happened to Jose’s car).

But for the record, I couldn’t make it out to CAD before 'cuz I had to work Fri. night and/or the next morning. So I wasn’t exactly free to come out. And my main game being Marvel didn’t help either.

phoball: Don’t worry about it man. It isn’t your fault, this argument was sorta bound to come up sooner or later. But you should come and play w/ Jose and me sometime, for 3S and Marvel. You still gotta see my Agetec mods  :bgrin:.

Frankie: Seriously…you ask me for Marvel advice and yet NOT ask about IM… :arazz::annoy:shakes head

  • Mike

Lol what? I haven’t bothered with IM till I started messing around with him last night for like 2 hours straight I was bored. :arazz::sweat:

-Frankie

same here, I believe.:wonder:

kinda fun i don’t play any of those games really though, i only played maybe 15 matches of kof and that was it and got a headache and left, but it was cool seeing AH in motion
