GG’s to everyone i played. Too many people showed up to mention all of you and i played too many different games, but you know who you are.
Fun times at the steak and shake, too, haha.

rob, your new stick is awesome
and you were right! it DOES feel like boning lilica up da butt
Warning extremely Long 3s rant ahead prepare yourself.
I had a fucking blast at CAD this week. Tekken was the fucking hotness. I’m glad I
got to play you in the game Rob. Your words have inspired me to continue my Tekken
carrier. Yosh was right though, Tekken does indeed have the most complex wake up
system of any game ever (getting up in that game is a bitch). Guess that just shows
the power of Oki then. Jose as usual we put on a show for 3s, I shell dub this for
now on as, “gangsterism”. This way of playing is how I feel that 3s is played at in its
highest levels. What some peeps do not know about 3s is that it is the closest thing
a 2d fighter is going to get at rivaling a 3d game in the guessing department (ala
rock, paper, scissors). 3s is a game all about guessing when certain situation
arise at the players face. Therfore the real way to play 3s is to control when these
situations will arise and be able to overcome them with a success rate of at least
60% more then your opponent. A general problem I see though is that most
players play their characters to solid (this is not bad its actually a good thing to be
a pretty solid player). But have you ever been in a situation in a game were a
player just plays to weird for you to make up a certain game plan on how to
defeat him and you freeze under pressure as he pummels you in the face. I know
I have . Well that is what gangsterism is playing extremely weird yet being
solid at the same time to gain a more advantageous situation then what would
normally occur then that say of a solid play. For example, take this common
situation with ryu (whenever you hit someone with a close fierce punch most
common sense will tell you hit a jab dp. this is solid game play. While playing it
gangster would be something like this hit the guy with a fierce punch and and
ponder how many times I can press down before he how I’m not going to attack
to get him to jump then hit him with jumping fierce punch as a reset into shinku
hadoken for big damage and you even get an ender. This is gangster game play.).
So what is the difference? well both involve you hitting the opponent with the
same moves but it is the difference of the advantage that you get that separates
these two situations apart. the solid game play yields the following awards and
consequences: semi psychological (as in you hit the guy with a damaging combo
but he just got through my guard nothing else feeling for the opposition), a huge
damaging combo with juggle opportunity with meter (jab dp shinku hadoken),
and short chance to build meter or go for oki mix-up. Gangster game play leaves
you with the following awards and consequences: huge psychological advantage
(as it gives you the apperance of being strong as well as psychic). a huge
damaging combo with juggle opportunity (although the combo I listed is not
guaranteed at any point except when shinku hadoken hits also this is a much
better use of meter then doing that jap dp into shinku on the ground), a chance
for meter building and oki, Inconstant attacking method that is not guaranteed
and has a chance of failure due to the opponent breaking out of the set-up (this
is why solid play is good). This is my analysis of two different style both are good
in their own ways and both yield their own rewards and consequences. This rant
is just to enlighten peeps that their are many ways to play their game not just a
solid one. Peace Out
[Mario Gomez]
P.S. Thanks to Both Kenny and Cliff for running this shit their always a blast. I
believe every state in the Midwest should do gatherings like this.
Regret that I skipped out so early last night. Next time I go, I’ll stay longer. Longer even than Frankie (Fred, haha). D: I’ll also learn combos. :x
way to jack one of my avatars without asking me, scrub
Thing is Mario is that there are not just two types of playing styles. 3s confuses me more than any game ever made and this is why I love the game so much.
Every person plays the game differently. There are the patient turtlers, the risky attackers etc. Its just that every good player I have played against for the first time they all have something that makes you just go “Huh”. However this kind of play only goes so far and that is a problem of playing in the US. Most of us 3s players have only played a certain number of people and know how each other plays. However, when we play someone different thats good I find we usually have difficult until we figure out their nuances.
Thats why Japanese play seems so perfect and unrisked based in general because they have experienced all of those crazy unique nuances that we experience that we go huh to.
Japanese players aside, there are so many crazy unique styles in the US and thats why i love this game.
mario’s double spacing makes me go roflcopters.
last nights turnout was fucking epic…holy shit.
Thank you all for comin’ out, seriously. I don’t think I even got the chance to speak/play with/say hello/say goodbye with/to everyone there…damn…
that was possibly the closest fight night has ever been to how I envisioned it to become (only thing missing was straight up newbloods)
gg’s to everyone last night too.
Definitely…melty blood was good with you, Andy…
question for you…out of the three characters I was usin’ on you…who do you think I was using the best out of them?
Sion. Oh, wait…
GG’s to everyone there. Probably the most fun I’ve had at CAD in awhile. Jim, Yosh, Andy, Dennis, Jerry, Mario, Roger, all you guys.
You didn’t hear?! Jenny came home with me that night! Oh, and that new stick of yours is hot! Also, that Crazy Bits Milkshake was fcuking crazy good.
:wow:
Epic post for the CAD thread! The birth of a new ISM! Those were some fcuking awesome matches, especially those Akuma mirrors. Probably the best I’ve had in a bit.
Highlight of it was:
Me: "Is it me? Or are we playing this game wayyy too fast?"
Mario: "That’s how we have to play it. It’s the “Gangsterism”. Just like the jump in Shoryu"
Me: :Mashes Buttons Ferociously: “We gotta play this shit like Marvel!”
I need to go rest my eyes now because of that post. Jim, I think I’m convinced that one way or another, I’m going to get a PSP:slim. Thanks for bringing it.
Oh, and getting home at @ 5am killed me.
Wtf scrub you haven’t came in since like a fucking month ago! It’s straight though it was good to see you granted you’re rusty as fuck in GG :arazz:. Other than that good times had a ball but than again went don’t I even though my scrubtastic self always gets thrown around in every game..
-Frankie
kenny, who did you play again? i remember arc for sure and maybe akiha and then i dont remember. our session was one of the last i had that night and i was pretty tired at that point (im just saying thats whats affecting my memory).
that said, it was my hisui’s first day. i think arc gave me the most trouble, b/c hisui needs about a chair’s worth of space to get her momentum going and arc is kind of in your face.
Nanaya shiki also…
Andy for it being your first day of Hisui, you did really well with her. She’s def better than your V.Sion and your Kohaku.
thanks rob :wgrin:
for the record, day one vs real people, but i have practiced some combos in training mode and whatnot. moving around w/ her definitely feels better than w/ some other chars. picking a character certainly is a process. if only kohaku didnt move like she was stuck in jello.
Well, i knew what you meant. I knew it wasnt your first day ever playing the character, but against people.
You just need to get a bit more used to her stuff and you’ll start doing better. You clicked with her way better than i felt you clicked with any other character ive seen you play. Though i dunno how it felt from your end. =P
How, I miss this one , Damn I need to stop drinking every Friday
Scrub! You’re missing some pretty good 3S action.
