Alex Tech Thread: "POWA BOMB!"

This worked with SF4 Guile, didn’t think to try it with Alex. Good idea, works great.

Every wonder why your f.HP ever whiffs randomly on an opponent? Thanks Snake Eyez

I’ve had it happen myself a bunch of times as well; very annoying. Forward.HP is a true 50/50 mixup - 50/50 on whether or not it’s going to work properly…

So it’s better not st.lp into dash anymore?

I only tinkered in training mode for a bit. Set guile to jump, mid jump I switch him to crouch and block all.

Hit him st.LP m, dashed under, and f.HP still was hitting. Not sure if it would be any different if there was no block

I will not risk , if I cross ,ill go with st.mp

We already have meaty setups for forward throws so I looked into meaty setups for back throws (only if you throw them in the corner).
So far I found that HP right after back throw in the corner counters 3f normals when the opponent does quick recovery. If HP fails cause the opponent does not recover then fMP right after HP also counters 3f normals. The second part is not that useful though.

What’s the difference in powerbombs? range and dmg

Damage - Stun
Light 160 -220
Medium 170 -220
Heavy 180- 220
EX 220- 250

I found a better setup for the second part. If HP fails then whiff a crouching LP then forward HP hits meaty on the second active frame which lets you combo MP after on normal hit.

Some Alex setups I found to beat DPs/3f moves:

-EX stomp > neutral jump HP (ANTI DP)
-EX flash chop > dash > jab (ANTI DP)

-EX stomp > double dash > grab (ANTI 3f JAB)
-EX stomp > double dash > st.MP (ANTI 3f JAB)
-EX stomp > dash > lp > lariat (ANTI 3f JAB)
-EX flash chop > dash > lariat (ANTI 3f JAB)
-note: have to wait VERY SLIGHTLY after the dash for this last one to work

Good find with that safe jump dude went into the lab and it appears that it works off of a lk.stomp too. Less safe but it’s an option if you don’t want to commit to using the meter

What do you guys do after a power bomb? I’ve been using L. elbow but I used to use S.HK. is it match up dependant or do you guys have a bread and butter?

L.elbow is better unless you know for a fact they’re going to press something on wake-up, or want to try and catch a jump. If they block on wake-up every time dash > powerbomb opens them up very well.

The issue with using St.hk is that on block you’re -4, some of the cast can punish you quite hard for that. Use st.hk at your own risk.

L.elbow doesn’t catch jumpers? Thank you for the quick response btw.

It does, but St.hk is better for it overall from my experiences, I just like the elbow to close the distance and MAYBE sneak a cr.mp in afterwards. His oki game after powerbomb is heavily reliant on commitment outside of l.elbow.

What’s the best way to punish a dizzy opponent if you don’t have any meter/V-trigger? I usually just do H-Powerbomb but I feel like there are much better moves to use.

Depends if you’re in the corner or not. Meterless options below.

For corner -
V-skill, St.hk > h.slash elbow > cr.hp > m.air knee

For mid-screen(Could be wrong here) -
V-skill, St.hk > h.slash elbow > l.chop?

I can’t remember the mid screen combo right now uh oh D:

In the corner I love using:

hard hit st.HK > st.HK, then catch them with a power bomb after the reset

I think I have that in the OP somewhere. I should really update it, haven’t added all the new things that we learnt past week 1
