It’ll grab Dudley out of some of his specials, even when EXed. Including the “dash back-forward punch” thing. I don’t know any of the move names for Dudley.
i used to us the EX elbow a lot then.
now all i play against is yun, ken and chun li’s.
thats why i didnt list the EX elbow as a good move. its not abusable as it once was.
I think it’s quite good. Yun can’t do anything about it. As for getting it blocked, well, that’s your fault if you do. There’s a reason it’s fast but has shit priority…it’s because it’s made to punish whiffs and bad recovery moves…it’s not made to outprioritze or to baitout moves. That’s what Yun’s EX Lunge Punch is for.
The point is, Alex can’t get in easily at all against Ken and Chun-Li once they have a super.
Stomps and EX Stomps get u in quite nicely, and in the process can crossup AND knock down. Once Chun is knocked down, that bitch is dead.
Also, short Elbow gets u in and it has -2 recovery.
Stomps can be parried on reaction… The cross-up part doesn’t really matter (either they get a parry or block). The only way it’d work is if they’re constantly whiffing moves mid-screen, but after they get their 1st meter they don’t need to do that. They can just just sit on it because you’re not going to outpoke them.
Chun has weak wake-up, but she’s not exactly dead once knocked down. Random parry into SA2 still = 40% and then you need to get in again. Ken is even worse with his BS wake-up options.
Short Elbow is nice, but I don’t think it travels far enough and gets stuffed easily afaik (chun fierces, ken low strong and st. roundhouse). If it travelled the distance of roundhouse Elbow with -2 recovery, Alex would be so much better.
Alex is by far the coolest character in the game but those two match-ups are pretty hard unless you get a strong lead early game IMO.
i dunno about the parry on reaction…i think that’s more theory fighter. it’s not like the guy is expecting a stomp and that’s it…he also has to worry about other things. It’s like Q’s Rush Punch, ppl could say its parriable on reaction, but then take a look at some Q vids, and u hardly ever see it parried because tension in a match doesn’t allow for a lot of parry on reaction unless its like a long distance fireball or hurricane kick or whatnot.
Also, if they block a crossup stomp, its still in Alex’s favor since he is in, and what comes next is a big risk to the other guy.
Short Elbow is nice because it gets u in. Like i said earlier, unless the guy is a robot, he will block it several times in a round, and that essentially closes the gap for Alex and he can do his stuff.
Chun Li I agree she is a pain for Alex (unless ur using SA3…my little secret hehe), but Ken is not bad. I consider him on equal footing with Ken, because I always considered SA2-Alex a shoto counter or at the very least a Shoto equalizer (with much scarier and more importantly unexpected surprises).
I know players who’ll parry stomps on reaction (buffered, charge-partitioned, wake-ups, all kinds). Of course, they’re pretty good. Against scrubs Alex can spam Elbows and Stomps all day long, that’s a given. It’s all relative. In Japan, I guarantee good players will parry your EX Elbow every time if you’re doing it out of the blue.
It does take good reflexes, but if you know the move is there you’re gonna look for it, especially since Alex really doesn’t have anything to make you block low from that distance (dash-in, sweep? haha). Q’s rush punch is a different case since he can do the overhead version and completely mess up your timing.
It’s true that you’ll cover some distance if they block the move though.
I don’t know about Ken vs Alex. Nowadays there’s little whiffing and no EX fireballs/sweeps to punish anymore. Alex eats Ken’s (ground) cross-ups for free and still has a hard time jumping in. Now that EX Elbow is neutralized what else does he have? dash-in throws and st. forward spamming? That’s not much. I see it as a 6-4 match-up at best.
I"m not trying to degrade Alex, thats the only character I play, but he has too many bad match ups.
I do know how to get around the bad match ups, but its hard work.
against Ken, Alex loses bad, stomps will get you in but it is easy to get blocked or parried, all the opponent has to do is tap the other direction 50/50 block/parry, death for Alex.
I use EX Elbow as a counter after whiff moves, but against Ken and Chun Li’s you don’t get many of those chances.
I guess It depends who you play against, but I base Ken and Chun Li players to be the same as how the top players in my area play them.
Wake up DDT!
I dunno maybe i’m alone on this, but Ken doesn’t give me trouble. Chun does, but I just use SA3 for that whore, build it up with s. strongs, then get her with it.
What if alex waits for them to come to him? He seems to have pretty good defense…
also, what is the best way for makoto to shut down a good alex?
Ok, seriously, how is KSK so good with Alex? It doesn’t seem like he does anything too fancy, but he can really take someone out. Does anyone know any tricks to use or is it just knowing Alex’s pokes and mix-ups really well?
alex isn’t fancy. its just mixing up his powerbombs and stomps, to try and bait the opponent in landing these. set ups and mix ups.

Look. Stop arguing with those guys from Toronto. They are right. You guys suck.
Stun Gun is for scrubs. Chunli is beatable, you stay in front and keep her down, you guys lose cuz you guys cant parry and most of you lack the reflexes. Ken is even worse. Why bother explaining it, those who know, know.

way to contribute nothing to the thread. and what are u talking about exactly? guys from toronto? was there a toronto vs. the world Alex strategy battle in this thread?

you are a dumbass
oh hi I have a question about Alex…
Ive seen in a few combo videos where his SA2 is linked from his choke grab move. I would like to use this in a match but I cant pull it off so well…
this website http://www.freewebs.com/ryus_temple/combos.htm says u need to “kara SA2 with back+strong” but I have NO idea how to do that (becoz Im a scrub like that…)
can anyone help me on how to do this kara super… or to link the super from the grab. thanks a lot!
and btw, by choke grab I mean the away+fierce when your opponents back is facing you (like after a fierce or strong flash chop)
Is it possible to kara-power bomb? I’ve been trying with fwd+fierce and s.strong but I can’t get it. Am I too slow or is it not humanly possible?
I agree wit cha since it’s just about the only time u can do multiple hits with Alex instead of just 3 hits besides once the enemy is stunned they are absolutley fucked but of course u can escape a dizzy plus it’s kinda useful for escape tatics over ex moves or projectiles sort of
Thread Revived! I’d love to know how to kara-bomb too…any takers on answering this question?
