Alex General Discussion: "At ease, loo-suh!" The Alex SFV Thread

That is a possibility considering how eleborate the throws have become. it wouldn’t be quite the same as landing it from a far jump, but at least the animation would still be there.

I don’t see his choke returning as grab since we already have Nash using the choke. anyhow we still have his body slam old throw that needs to be used, not my favorite but I’m sure some of the old fans would still like it there.

I know it wasnt the point of your photoshops but these pictures really make me want a minature Alex companion to follow me during ranked matches kind of like the companion pets they have in MMOs.

Choke was kinda pointless. Nash’s backthrow is a mini movie, I really expect it Alex’s to be where the DDT animation went, although I’m not sure they’ll give him a backthrow that lets him land right on top of their wakeup.

also, we’re gonna get alex within the next…15 days! Huzzah!

Season pass content is cancelled.

alternatively, if we’re still gonna see a Friday release like that one community manager said, we could be getting Alex in either 2 days or 9 days! Probably get a trailer by friday at least.

Better get dat refund then lol

Whoa someone’s photoshop skills is on point. Love the KSK black Alex color. Am I the only fan of Start+MK?

Start+MK is legit as well. Anything that changes his hair as I’m sick of Japan’s obsession with blonde hair.

That’s why I’m playing Necali. He has Alex-like moves, sorta. Stomp is slash. C

Hot damn, I need that NWO Hollywood Alex RIGHT NOW.

This thread took a turn. Me gusta. H. Kick has my vote for sure. Purple headband all day.

The blue has better blonde hair than the original model…

The non-blonde hairs make him look pretty legit. The bright blonde highlights each individual french fry.

I really hope we do see more skin and hair color changing costumes. I loved that Cammy’s color 2 used to change her eye color in the Beta. SFV really needs to step up it’s alt color game.

I don’t think it makes him fundamentally different. He doesn’t seem to be nearly as different as Mika, Birdie, or Nash are, but he may be as different as Dictator is.

I think an important thing to realize about Alex in 3S is that he has a QCF move, a DP move, a charge back move, a charge down move, TWO HCB moves,
and even some unique command normals like his back+HP hit-grab. He’s got 6 specials and he’s coming into a game where most characters have 3 or 4, it’s just too much. In a more streamlined game like SFV there’s no way they’d bring him in without reworking him.

That said, from a gameplay perspective, his new jumping command grab will replace DDP without much difference I would think, and if it’s projectile invincible on EX at least, it can serve a similar function to boot as well. The biggest question is whether his lariat will effectively replace slash, since that’s the biggest loss to his toolbox.

Overall Capcom has taken unfocused characters like Birdie and Mika and given them much more obvious gameplans, clearer strengths, and clearer weaknesses. Alex was a much better character gameplay-design-wise than Alpha Birdie, (I think Alex is a charge grappler done right) but he still suffered from some of the same issues that birdie did by not having all of his moves work together sensibly. As an aggressive brawler character Alex wanted to walk forward, but as a charge character he needed to charge, and it makes the character a bit harder to play and understand. You don’t really know what you should be doing at first with him. That division of his options really lowered his competitiveness on a pro level as well.

Just like with all the characters in SFV, capcom’s design focus is to push them more and more towards what makes them unique, and give them clear gamplay focus. So new Alex maybe won’t be as versatile as he was before, but hey, he’ll more than likely be a whole lot better in a competitive sense than he was before. So there’s that.

TL;DR: New Alex could be less versatile, but he’ll also probably be a lot better.

(But please, let us all just take a moment of silence for how sick the animation on slash elbow is)

http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/streetfighter/images/5/5b/Slashelbow.gif/revision/latest?cb=20100724221952

couldnt it be just a simple change from charge to commands for those moves like they did for those other characters, eliminating the need to focus on 2 different types and making all his moves work more sensibly, flash elbow could be as simple as making it a qcb motion, leaving only stomp as a charge

Having a HCB and a QCB motion that do moves that are that different from eachother is bad for business, but even if they did find some sensible way to make all his moves work as motion moves (despite them being designed and balanced like charge moves) he would still be a character with SIX special moves. Then you add in V-Skill, then V-Trigger, and you’re into a downright ridiculous number of mechanics for one character.

Moreover, with all his specials intact, what would V-trigger even be for? It’s not like he would need to unlock any more options at that point. It would be way too easy to turn Alex into an unfocused jumble of a character if they didn’t trim down and reconsider his options, that’s how I feel.

One question where did you get this info. Link if possible. My brain is going nuts.

Quick question: Am I the only one here whose like drowning in fight money from all this survival mode I’ve been doing waiting on the man? Cause I got like damn near 500k right now and it’s outrageous.

Haha Jesus! Captaingarth is the true survivor. Most people I’ve seen are around 120k-160k from doing story mode and then a bit of survival, but it’s good to know you can grind out that much fight money! Especially since characters will cost 100k, and costumes were supposed to be what? 50k if I remember? Keep it up and you’ve basically got yourself a season pass.
