Alex General Discussion: "At ease, loo-suh!" The Alex SFV Thread

Because…the QA for the rest of the game has been amazing so far?

For character balancing? Yeah, it’s a really well balanced game for it’s initial release version.

In general? Fuck no, games a burning pile of incomplete garbage that doesn’t function properly.

Wasnt excited for Alex at first but after reading about him and it getting closer to his release Im starting to get pretty hyped for him. My two characters are Birdie and Necalli and im hoping he is somewhere in between in terms of his gameplay. A speedy grappler with good normals to control space and good damage. Cant wait to see his trailer

They had a bunch of worldwide beta’s to balance the cast off.

I don’t expect the same level of balance for Alex, it’s not possible.

They didnt “beta balance” fang either and he looks solid… hard to play though (as any zoner should be)

Quick unrelated question - Does anyone know if @kidhero99 is ok?
I haven’t seen them disagree with any posts for more than a day and I wouldn’t want them to think we’re bullying them.]

On Topic - A character like Alex is never going to be in the top tiers due to the available tools, unless Capcom truly fudge his numbers. At the same time I can’t imagine that want him to come in weak because he’s their first DLC character, he will be undeveloped compared to all the other characters already and screwing this up would likely be disaster.

He can be ridiculously strong in this game, no parries to shut down his entrances this time around either. Game seems to stem around playing a strong mid-range game and moving in close for traps and shimmies, we can just threaten CMD grab as well.

Could be considered a strong character for sure if they don’t fuck him.

Alex could be back with a vengeance this time around potentially

Capcom make him top tier plz , make him give chun a run for her money :3

:3

Considering Alex has been eating Chun cMK for more than 15 years, he deserves a shot at retribution.

I remember them saying that Alex’s vskill would embody his grappling style. Here is the SRK post:

I find it strange now that it only makes his next move a counter hit. Could it be that it also gives his grabs different properties? Or could he say get a blocked HP xx vskill and be +3f or something ridiculous like that to allow him to mixup with his command grab?

I was hoping that they’d give him better command grab properties as well after using it, like hard knockdown or leaving Alex closer to the opponent or something…?

They say a lot of nutty things at Capcom. How I feel it boosts HIS grappling STYLE is this.

  1. With the counter hit this can lead to crush counters which as we see with gief can go into cmd grabs.
  2. The counter hit on smaller normals will help for linking into heavy flash chop ( couldn’t be done in 3s you only got medium chop link) which will give us a grab>
  3. They will want to block to avoid situation #2 allowing you to do his jump forward grab of if you catch um standing like a deer in the headlights… powerbomb.

Games been out a month gang. Alex when Capcom.

It’s very possible that when they said it would embody his grappling style, they meant that it would embody his grappling style specifically (not just grappling in general), and Alex has always been more of a brawler character.

It’s definitely a cool idea for a V-Skill though, turns your next attack into a counter hit? I had some concern that they would run out of V-skill ideas, but I hope they keep finding unique things to do with the system. There’s a lot of space for fighting game innovation there.

The real question is how far does it go and how fast does it come out if its NOT charged? Judging by the fact that it either parries or armors a move while it’s charging you’re probably supposed to use it as a reaction to a hit, it’s also probably going to be safe on block like Cammy’s V-skill, or properly placed Alex elbows.

I feel like the guard crush is gonna require set ups to use effectively, because it must be jump-able, otherwise there’d be… No escape.

Because it has the flash it will most likely be very easy to counter of someone sees it coming , just based on the description, probably gotta definitely react to stuff with it

V-Trigger: Rage Shift

Alex becomes steaming hot and gains access to the powerful lariat Sledgehammer. During the start-up, Sledgehammer can power through the opponent’s attack, making it a strong offensive and defensive maneuver suiting of Alex.

It sounds more like Karin’s rekkas actually, so you activate “Rage Shift” and then you have access to Lariat for a limited time. So there’s the flash when you activate, but you don’t have to commit to a lariat immediately.

Good catch I had missed that. We still won’t know exactly how good it is until we either see it n action or get frame data. It would be nice if it was safe on block.

Yeah, now that you put it that way, it does sound like a timed state V-trigger a la Karin or Denjin.

I wish they were more specific with their initial wording, plain English shouldn’t require this much analysis.

Could also be some poor translating but I agree.

Trailer this week? I see Alex releasing on the 25th.
