Alex General Discussion: "At ease, loo-suh!" The Alex SFV Thread

Hope so. But Im expecting his first alt to come next month at the earliest.

Thats part of the problem. But even then the short hair with two randomly long locks of hair is stupid.

I agree completely but I realised that they were the focal point of my issues with his look. Without them he just doesnā€™t look like Alex to me. Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll adjust but for now - BibleThump.

Also to the people saying how he looks leaner in SF3 - SFV = when Alex is younger and potentially full of price so he could be abusing steroids.
He is a wrestler after all.

Personally I think he looks good

Some shots i think he looks okay, like citrus_monkeyā€™s av, but he looks stupid in like genusers avatar. Its not really any different to some other chars, like Ken and karin have really bad shots as well.

Hey! Screw you my avatar is awesome, lol

He looks like a startled bear in your avi

The reason isā€¦ Iā€™m a hypocrite.

I really didnā€™t see it until I saw third strike sprite again.

I shall remove my disagree sir.

I think the design of the character is great. The problem comes when they canā€™t translate that design into a final in-game model. Gotta give them credit for trying as itā€™s not easy to bring out a cartoon/anime design into a 3D engine (hence why SF4 character models were mostly hideous). Look at how much better he looks in the sketch I used for my avatar and imagine this design was put in a 2D engine. I would imagine SF5 Alex in SF3 sprites would look bloody epic.

Basically, I think the idea is good, but execution wasnā€™t.

Alex looks pretty killer. My only beef is that his bangs look really weird underneath the headbandā€“probably because of the chunky model. If they were over the headband Iā€™d like it better, but otherwise Iā€™m rather fond of the flannel and suspenders. Not gonna argue with a classic costume down the line, but this is more than adequate.

He does look perhaps a tad too old, but thatā€™s a non-issue in motion.

For some reason blonde hair in this game just looks very plastic. MK, Tekken, and KI have much better graphics in my opinion, but I love SF gameplay so SF wins. I absolutely hate the background characters in this game thoughā€¦wish they would stop with that crap and the comical looney tunes shit going on in the background. Just go KI/MK routeā€¦their backgrounds are gorgeousssssā€¦

Can somebody explain to me why Capcom is still withholding the trailer from the public? Are they saving it for Tuesday or the last day of Final Round? :pensive:

GOOD THING WE HAVE THE GRID!

To be fair it could be the angle of his face in some of his screenshots, thereā€™s also a lot of bright light effects in them which probably makes him look worse (I remember some Cammy screenshots during the time of her reveal which had the same lighting effects).

The JPG artifacts also make it look worse since it degrades the quality of the whole screenshot itself, the details are not crystal clear like in-game footage.

See this is what Iā€™m talking about, his face looks much better here.

Which would be terrifying lol

Only parts that bug me are the hair/jeans. If he has a colour that has his hair black/brown Iā€™m sure the issue would be solved. As someone said above, blonde hair just looks weird in this engine.

LIke every character in this game his face just probably looks shitty from certain angles Iā€™m sure on motion we will barely be able to notice

In my opinion thatā€™s because they insist on going with this lime yellow looking color when it comes to blondes instead of a lesser bright color with different hue, here is something I did just now to represent what I mean:

Alex has the same problemā€¦ the hair looks too yellow overall.

Bananas and Fries.

Le sigh.

just now? that picture has been floating around for at least a month.

I was in the general discussion thread way back when this was brought up and sent that image to ComboFiend and any other Capcom employees I could find. I donā€™t even think itā€™s because of that, bright colours just show off how clay-like the graphics look in SF5, whilst darker colours subdue that fact.
