Is this a valid mixup or too obvious?
While it is a bit obvious, in a longer set you could definitely throw this in once youâve convinced them to block.
Itâs the sort of thing where you have to have a read on your opponent. For instance - I might try something like that on some of the online Ryuâs whoâre very passive but against one of my friends I meet up and have sessions with, heâd just Shoryu or backdash or st.LP or b.HK or neutral jump or just generally something. If weâre doing a ft10 then I might go for this after not going for any throws whatsoever for a match or two to lull him into just blocking but I doubt it will work.
TL:DR - Make the read. If theyâre passive, go for it. Just donât use it more than once every two matches.
Unrelated - Iâm not sure if this has been mentioned before and my brain has just been overloaded the last couple of days but do we have any idea of the recovery we have after V-Trigger cancelling a normal? Does the V-Trigger recover in 1 frame (Ex:st.HK xx VTC = 26)?
Oh, and no one answered me about charging for an Elbow Slash after an Anti Air Knee. I cannot get the move to come out after a Knee but Stomp/Headbutt both come out fine.
Bit slow, but anything that forces adaptation is a valid mix-up, this qualifies.
Nope.
Itâs time gated, wonder why?
But I donât want it to be.
I had ideas that I was going through like having MK-Slash hit on the last active frame after a Knee. :â(
I think i saw on twitter that alex vtrigger was 5 frames to activate. There was a list of all characters vtrigger activations.
Could someone tell me the method of canceling a standing normal into stomp/command grab?
The thing I am missing the most is not having the sleeper hold after the two back-turned moves (HP Flash and sledgehammer).
Youâre pressing the normal button as youâre moving the stick from down to up. so like, the stick is neutral as you raise it to do the move, so thatâs when you press the standing button. It definitely takes practice though.
There way I do it is, charge down let the stick go to neutral press the normal and then up punch or kick.
Is it a necessity to learn it? Iâve barely had need to use them as mix-up tools so far, the occasional EX stomp and headbutt in neutral/after a blockstring is all I tend to go for.
Itâs prolly not necessary, but it doesnât help having it in your back pocket. I think if youâre gonna main a character you should be capable of doing almost everything at will.
Iâve done it in training a couple times, canât do it on will but around 4/10 times without practising it. If I spent an hour on it Iâd probably have it down, just wondering how viable it actually is.
Like, whatâs the gap from st.hp > EX Stomp/Headbutt?
I think it was Viscant who noted that st.hp is a great way to buffer into ex stomp/headbutt.
Not sure on the gap, but itâs a pretty strong move for setting up the mixup in the corner off of a blocked st.hp I think.
Itâs not about the gap itâs about the visual. Itâs real obvious youâre going for the stomp or headbutt if youâre just doing crouching normals, but you can do slash after all his standing punches as well, and people wonât be able to recognize it as you charging stomp, just cause itâs a different visual. You can just walk or shimmy or do all this other stuff after s.MP.
But yeah, itâs really really good. Practice it.
The gap is very important, I want to know how much room the opponent has so I can gauge how effective it is.
To me itâs the best of both worlds, the surprise of the move itself and the timeframe it gives the opponent to react to it.

Are you Kidhero?
Much worse. Heâs Louis.

I know I shouldnât use raw Clotheslines, but this hitbox does bother me a little.
Finally took my Alex into ranked. Patience has been my problem. Trying to spend more time playing defensive and landing counter hits. Standing HP smacks so many fools from such a stupid far distance. Itâs by far my favorite normal in the game.
