I find some characters to be a pain in the ass to get in on even with Alex’s long range normal attacks. It is as if I have to play Alex like Birdie, but with better ground speed. I also played against a bunch of Alex users with my Bison and I found that I just mauled them once I got Alex to a corner.
I do not even use EX knee for AA as st.lp and cr.fp are strong enough.
Played all day yesterday with Alex and ran into a bunch of mirrors. Only ran into a few other characters. I played against three Cammys. If Alex can keep her grounded I feel he could have an edge. Hooligan setups and jump arc changes with divekick fucked me up here. I want to fight a Chun with him.
I found st.lp beat the shit out of Cammy dive kicks over any of the other options. It provided more time to react due to the quick start-up versus the others.
Has anyone fought a Nash with Alex yet? How does that match-up seem?
Still looking for a secondary that I like that can fight against Nash at least evenly (Ken, my main, I feel really struggles there) and wondering if perhaps Alex might be that character…
Really want to try the match-up myself but I’m at work and thus stuck in theory fighter mode.
I will let you know when the sea of Shoto’s stops happening.
Something that’s confusing me at the moment. There are times when I parry something like a jump in but then the move doesn’t come out. I thought you had to hold it and then release but it seems that it’s 50/50 as to whether it wants to come out of not.
Either that or I’m being a moron…
On paper it feels as though Alex/Nash would be in Nash’s favour, but I haven’t seen enough of the MU or played enough of it yet. Every Nash I’ve fought felt tough though.
lp chop is safe spaced at range, but not deep. ex chop of course is safe deep on block.
but here’s the trick, you gonna confirm into lk elbow (or ex/lk elbow) for safety if it’s all blocked, or hitconfirm into mp chop of it hits
alex is a great mixup monster, powerbomb ticks from everything, and ex stomp can mix up combined w/ headbutt
buuuuut, his AA is lacking (but but st.lp is great! not really), he can’t DEFEND himself from frametraps/pressure, and he has no reversals, even with meter. He’s great to decent everywhere, but his defense is bottom tier, there’s no other way around it.
He can contest his pokes midrange with defensive st.mk/cr.mk/cr.mp pokes, but I wouldn’t pick up Alex for that matchup at all.
His plethora of anti-fireball moves are solid, but it’s all charge, so it’s all readable as Necalli’s charge. He can also chop fireballs and buffer charge moves, but it really all depends if Nash knows what he’s doing, all that stuff leaves Alex wide open for big punishes unless he spends EX meter. And of course, Nash can give you the infiltration-f.champ 5 time throw because he has no reversals.
You’re not a scrub. A scrub would be crying about how cheap Nash is while doing nothing to improve. The fact that you’re willing to learn jumps you far out of scrub territory.
I’m just looking at it through pressure vs. Alex’s ability to neuter it. Charlie has a bunch of tools to keep the train going and our anti-fireball tools Chop/Stomp/Headbutt wouldn’t work on him so well, I feel his ability to weave in/out of ranges and stay + on block would beat Alex on paper with our slower than average normal set.
Could be mad wrong though, I assume regular knee would beat Moonsault clean if timed and st.hk beats all of his ranges, and due to Nash not having a 3f normal and a lack of true reversal we can open him up pretty well with Powerbomb ticks and frame traps(Alex would have to get in first though). There are always positives and negatives to each MU, it’s just how heavily those throw it into your favour.
Man I don’t know I’m not having issues with his anti airs personally, they seem very abel like though particular cr hp so maybe I’m just comfortable in that space, I find stand lp really good too, not gief/sim tier but pretty good non the less. And I LOVE lariat aND if you get that crush counter
If by Abel-like you mean pretty shitty then yeah, they are Abel-like!
Kidding, Alex’s aren’t that bad they just do no damage. St.lp doesn’t punish jumps heavily enough, and cr.hp is a far jump only AA. EX Knee is good all-around for me.
I wish. If Alex had the Abel/Urine cr.hp I don’t think anyone would be complaining about his AA, it’d basically be his current shoulder cr.hp but arc’d in a way that would cover most of his problem areas.
