Evil Ryu deals incredible damage, something along the lines of 400+ for a standard fadc combo no ultra and deals stun more along the lines of SF4 Akuma. His fireballs are superior to standard Ryu and his footsies benefit from the very long cr mk. His normals appear to be active like Ryu rather than Akuma. His dashes are improved over the current shoto dash so it remains to be seen how he compares to Akuma.
It really doesnt matter who you pick. You are going to lose to any good Yun. Playing Yun is like playing a 1 player game, you do the same thing no matter what your opponent does. He is easy mode which is why I have decided to play him as an alternate. You probably all will as well when you see the load of shit this character brings to the table. I was talking to a bunch of people from our scene in IRC and we all agreed that Yun is much more broken than vanilla sagat. He can get in by air or by ground, it is impossible to keep him out. Shoryu? Maybe if you can react quick enough to a shallow dive kick but he is so small its probably gonna whiff or hell be on the ground in time to be safe. Air fireballs? Nah, full screen ex dash punch into another dash punch for 190 damage. Oh thats right we have ground fireballs as well!!! O he has a shoulder that goes through all fireballs and can be easily hit confirmed into super for obscene damage. Well I guess we can just block right? NO HE HAS A FUCKEN COMMAND GRAB THAT HAS A RANGE OF 1.3. His footsies are godlike and hes a frametrap machine, you cant teleport because you get dash punched. The matchup is not impossible but the amount of times you have to guess correctly compared to the Yun is just stupidly unfavorable.
man you seem to understand Yun’s game let alone Yang, don’t forget Yang…read my post from above #30 on my thoughts on Yun & some tips that help me beat that character…would like to know what you think?
One of the best players here in Australia has switched to Yang and he commands him extremely well. Yang is definitely a strong character but requires a bit of finesse to use effectively combined with him not having quite the same damage output (or nonsense) as Yun. They share similar traits however and he can easily push the offensive when he feels like it due to his strong dive kick game and solid pokes + rekkas.
I think Akuma:Yang is a 5/5 match-up to be honest. For a while there I was a bit lost when it came to dealing with him, but its important to understand that he can be safe jumped and his ability to deal with pressure is kinda poor. He can FADC his dp unlike Yun though rarely will you see him do so as its often in his interest to conserve meter for his Super and EX slashes from what I have seen.
AE’s release on consoles is going to be great because I’m eager to see what those of you without access to arcades think of the new balance and also these two new characters Yun and Yang. I’m curious to see the new strategies that should emerge from a larger playerbase plus the fact that we can tinker in training mode.
What about Akuma’s other AA options? What about far st.HP? Theoretically it should be a good choice against those divekicks.
What about far HK against this ish? Does it hit him out of air?
And if he is command grab happy I guess we should use more neutral jumping against him. Any experience so far with this?
Sure S HP will work but if you try and S HP a divekick that is too close, your eating a full combo and then comes the Yun pressure. And yes you can neutral jump but his frame traps are soo good their is no getting away.
I am actually finding s.MP is actually rather good at stuffing Yun’s dive kicks. It is fast (4 frames), hits high enough to catch a lot of the kicks, easy to react with, and seems to either win or trade if you get it off.
The only downside is if Yun is right on top of you then you can’t use it because you get cl.MP instead.
Ok, exploding heart technique (forward throw dash x2 mk df kick) stuff’s light, medium and ex upkicks trades with hard upkicks. Conversely if you palm instead of df dive kick it’s safe to all his regular upkick. He needs to ex upkick to beat it. You can reliably pressure Yun with DF.
Yun doesn’t have godlike footsies. Yun’s footsies are garbage. One knockdown and Akuma is pretty dang free to harrass the shit out of him - you just need to make that opportunity happen.
I disagree big time. s.MP into target combo is too freaking good. Besides when you have a dive kick and full screen safe rush punch you don’t need super good footsies anyways.
It depends… I played more than just a few Yun players last night. There’s defenitely “beginner” Yun’s which are not so tough to beat. DF palm setups work like a charm on them. It’s the good ones that are a problem as all it takes is one knockdown or reset and they go into their routine; lunge punch, block string, palm, cancel, block string, command throw, etc.
You can’t teleport away because they’ll tag you with a lunge punch from full screen. You can’t use focus attacks to get out of the corner during pokes because their target combos blow it up. You can’t use coward copter because it got nerfed. You can’t even reversal DP them because their normals push them back enough that your DP either whiffs or only gets one hit (only pushes them back).
I don’t know, on the whole, the character’s not that bad, but I wish his lunge punch had some recovery on it. And I wish his upkicks could be punishable on whiff. That would make the matchup more even, IMO.
I don’t think he is a footsies character, but he some nice tools (just what Loyal said).
Also, his normal when close are goddamn effective, off a single cr.lk he will always land his b&b, you can’t get him out of range.
I tried some nj shenanigans but my opponent would use cr.lk ion reaction and make all my nj normal whiff and raep me, gawd.
Btw, against newbie Yun the matchup is easy as shit, I can even DP EX lunge on reaction when expected. Against skilled opponents who are focusing only on Yun, it’s like hell tbh, I’m just free to the regular throw, command grab, frame trap mixup…
