A small supplementary thread might suffice that details the subtle changes. Such as fs.hk whiffing second hit on block on Sakura now, Ken’s EX tatsu no longer being an overhead, EX banishing flat no longer knocking down, U2 connecting on crouchers and on chars it once whiffed on, Blanka balls being easy to punish without Ultra, etc.
The guts of the matchups remain ostensibly the same and I’m yet to see any monstrous tide turners. Makoto might be a bit of an exception though, goddamn. She’s quite the wrecking ball now.
I guess I can see that, yeah. I was wondering just HOW dramatically some of the changes would affect the match-ups and just assumed we’d want a newer MU thread made. I guess it would just be nice to have a match-up thread which is actually up-to-date completely, instead of like the SSFIV MU threads were in their earliest forms, with lots of info from Vanilla just copy/pasted. That said, I really do think the Akuma boards do a terrific job with match-up info than some other character boards I’ve been to.
(Related: as an extremely bad Mak user, I’m looking forward to some of her changes. Everyone and their dog is going to want to use the twins or Feil Long, so I’m thinking Mak might become my go-to alt if I choose a non-shoto alt character. Then again, my execution kinda sucks, and with Mak that’s kind of a difficult thing to cope with, so… sad time now, lol.)
Also I’m sure it’s been posted somewhere, but what are Yun and Yang’s HP and Stun?
Ok, thanks man. That’s what I thought but I just wanted to make sure. We gotta get cracking on finding some unblockable setups on these two… Assuming any can be done that is!
With AE and akuma not having any real bad match-ups outside of Yun (who I plan on playing if not maining). I will have akuma back on the roster. From what I’ve played Yun doesn’t seem to be that bad. U1 or U2 depending on the Yun you are playing. Patient Yuns I say U2 since using to to combo and punish rush punch opselects is worth it. U1 versus Yuns who like to do non ex rush punches and don’t know how to get in with dive kick. I’ve been able to cMK->demon many Yun dive kicks. I also like U1 against Yun because of wake up DP. You can’t really opselect it but you can confirm it pretty easy after a dive kick whiffs.
The zoning game seems to be in there and looks better than what you could do vs Cammy in Super. Air Fb’s need to be either TK backwards or used late and sparingly since rush punch kinda blows them up. Basic footsies game wise it seems like a neutral game, if Yun tries to play non divekick footsies akuma cMK and cHK seem to body him, add in dive kicks and Yun seems to blow up Akuma cMK/cHK but then akuma can easily dP/sHP those (cHK U1 if you are buffering it in your cHKs like you should be or if you are just plain looking to land a cMK demon). Yun’s ex shoulder is difficult to use to go through FBs since even its start-up can be hit by them. Some fun about the zoning is that if Yun likes to palm your FBs you can ex demon flip throw him (for some reason the 5 frames of recovery yun has seems to line up nicely with confirming a palm and doing a ex demon flip). Stunning and killing Yun seems to go quick with his low stun and health ratings. A throw and 2 mix-ups seems to do it. (very similar to the akuma MM). I think he has 900/900 which isn’t much more than akuma.
Quick question, I haven’t tried it but does anyone know if dP->fadc->teleport->U2 is possible? I figured the lowering of the hitbox might be key to it. Also it would look tight.
Also, TWB if teleport and block are working why not do jump back? Up back is kinda like the new down back. I can see that being trouble in the corner…sooooo don’t get cornered? Even then do a late attack or better yet…jump forward.
doesn’t seem that bad…what character are you assessing?
Scrub mentality going to Yun cause Cammy is less effective with her meterless instant spike gone and now you think you will win more…that’s what many players are doing it seems I hope not b/c it is scrubby and pathetic all across the board top player or not
Yes --Yun is really good & very effective in his offense–his translation & dont forget Yang from SF3 is pretty good almost perfect
I personally I’m not afraid of the character, I main Akuma–I managed to get some exp. against him…I’m not saying I know the match up inside & out but being observant within the match has help me some what understand Yun & Yangs game from a offensive/defensive mindset
here are a few tips to consider:
Pros about Yun & what to do
Yun is always on the auto pilot it seems-- to be on the offensive & Yang is a little bit more defensively minded w/his offense both High DMG- LOW HP
-be ready to block & conserve meter always at least two bars to dp Yun’s incoming DiveK (i spoke Tokido on the match up, he specified that clearly)
Fast characters/walk speed, Yun dive kick is faster then Yangs (slower DiveK) & more effective then even Rufus’s dive kick
-lvl up ur footsie game & yomei=mind reading (spell check sorry) be instinctive w/ur defense like punishing DiveK w/normals that work
Both have good frame traps & Fei Long type of normals-also there kobokushi (palm strike) can negate fb’s & stuff certain character moves even certain character ex moves
-be moving at all times (anticipating) & if he gets in ur personal space make sure not to stay in this position to long-Yun is dangerous up close
Alot of their moves are safe on block even has a 1 frame command grab even a launcher move
-ditto above
Yun has a good DP (dragon kick) kind of like Fei Long properties to punish/reversal situations in start up but he has no wake up game that where you…
-learn to bait Yun’s no wake up game, & proceed to punish-if successful your chances of winning is great-rush him down w/caution IF U HAVE A RUSH DOWN TYPE OF CHARACTER & don’t get greedy
Zesshou Hohou (lunge punch) esp. EX version is safe on block is really good special
-you can use certain normals w/ur respected characters to make him whiff, this will really surprise any Yun player
Great Genei Jin engine
-block & run defensively till it expires
Yun has a weak slow sweep not bad though
-if ur footsies is up to par stay 5 ft from him a little outside sweep distance & dance w/him & watch out from the air of his skateboarder tendencies
ditto too above
Well it certainly won’t actually be 7/3 Yun when it’s all said and done. Akuma is too solid in all aspects to have such a disadvantage, We just need to understand the Yun matchup better and the ratio will change.
I think a lot of this matchup might rely on gimmicks from akuma, from what I’ve read so far. I’ll judge for myself when AE comes out but even gimmicks might be hard to pull off against him.
So now Ive played probably over a hundred matches against several Yuns. I was on a 45 win streak (Against some good players and mediocre players.) A Yun player who is decent comes on (he played balrog in Super and I would body him hard). Beats me three rounds clean killing me with super 2/3 rounds. A couple days ago same thing almost a 30 streak and another Yun takes me off the cab. Its literally unbelievable how good Yun is. HE HAS A FUCKING COMMAND GRAB AND A FULL SCREEN SPECIAL THAT IS +1 ON BLOCK AND COMBOABLE. Did I mention the range on EX command grab is 1.3? Yea that is .2 short of giefs light SPD which means that a fucking command grab can be ticked after two MP!!!. His DP beats everything. I tried purposefully whiffing over a Yun just to see if he would do a DP and he did EX DP and it hit me while I was behind him. Fucking rediculous. When AE drops I will be getting a head start unto learning Yun because many of you who cant play AE yet wont realize how cheap this fucker is until a couple weeks in. You will then either learn Yun or Counterpick accordingly. And lol at people saying they are gonna pick up E. Ryu to counter yun. Good fucking luck getting away and have fun getting hit for half your health bar with one super combo. You cant teleport either because any yun with half a brain can mindlessly punish even akumas teleport with a dash punch.
