Akuma Set-up Thread: We are unblockable!

Ibuki’s unblockable against Akuma is really sneaky because it looks like any other cross up attempt. If you see it coming it isn’t hard to escape, but if you don’t know it is the unblockable it is really deceptive . Unlike Akuma’s, she can do it from anywhere on the screen.

Luckily it is actually harder to pull off than Akuma’s, but at the same time if someone masters it then it is very dangerous.

With the U2 buff I am quickly becoming a fan of using it in the Ibuki match up. Having the ability stop Neckbreakers and also punish Kunais is really helpful.

Congrats to Loyal for the new unblockable!

Wanted to ask: I had some trouble getting it to work, the only setup I could land the unblockable was the one suggested by Shin (good stuff man), st.LK into cr.MK.

Basically, what’s the frame gap we got to create? I mean, at first I thought it was 35f as mentioned in the topic, but this setup (st.LK, cr.MK) should be about 32 frames (st.LK is 12 frames, cr.MK is 20 frames). The point is, I’m not 100 % positive I started cr.MK on the very first possible frame.

Also, jumping should not be an issue, one just hold UF, but what about the cr.MK? Does it need a specific timing, or you just do it so that it hits the opponent?

Thanks again for the info LoyalSol, U2 does seem useful vs her now, unless the setup is really hard to pull off or if there’s a good way to escape it.

Did you try the setup I mentioned? 1xdash, whiff st.mp and instant j.mk

I’m pretty positive that’s it’s frame perfect (35f total) and doesn’t involve manual timing by us as long as the execution was done fast enough, just mash the dash to get it out as fast as possible after the throw then plink the st.mp and hold up.

If you’re doing cr.mk+st.lk (if it’s far lk)as fast as possible, it should bring the total to 32f as you mentioned and that’s the same as whiffing a cr.hk alone, which is much easier anyway because you can double plink it but still involves some manual timing.

Yeah, st.MP was actually the first setup I tried since it was 35 (18+17) frames as mentioned a while ago, but I couldn’t land it for the sake of my own life, so I tried other setups - thus my concerns, whether or not it had to be 35.

I wonder why I couldn’t land the sweep one too, being 32 and all, I too plink sweep every time I use it. Guess it’s just my horrible timing.

I’ll try it again later and let you know, thanks!

Yeah I’ve been using s.mp to set up the timing, started using it after I watched a tokido vs kensou set, idk why i never posted the idea :3 Good shit to loyal though <3

Here’s a match where he uses it http://youtu.be/CG4RY24Qmi4?t=26s

On the topic of ibuki, in this set tokido uses os s.HK to against her backdash, I originally would just os tatsu. What does everyone else do?

That’s so fucking weird, Tokido knew about this all this time and never told us =( (guess a secret for Evo?!), pretty neat seeing him use the same timing I suggested though lol, this is a true 4 frame safejump in the corner btw, if anyone is having trouble with the setup and you want to make sure you timed it right, try it out vs Yun, if you did it right Akuma will be able to block Yun’s 4f EX upckick which will be coming towards you in the corner (i.e the upkick won’t just whiff and get out of the corner).

I found it by exploring the corner mix ups on everyone so I am not shocked if Tokido knew about it since he has explored those extensively.

A lot of those mix ups you can change how they hit by delaying your attack by a frame and that is how I found the unblockable.

I think this unblockable is a lot more limited on how far away from the corner you need to be to use it compared to the other unblockables. Also unlike the other set ups, if you botch the timing this turns from an unblockable to an unhittable set up. Ibuki can guard either way she wants.

I will say I like the Dash s.MP set up the best since it gives a little more range.

Now as far as what Ibuki can do to get out of it. The answer is not much. She is pretty free to it. Command Dash, Neck Breaker, Slide, etc get hit out of the start up.Any move with invincibility is free to punishment. The only thing to truly be careful of is Ibuki’s U2 as it makes Akuma land in front, but

Her back dash can be used to screw it up, but if you know this you can easily punish. In fact when she uses he back dash you land in front of her so you can easily OS punish it. Apart from that you have nothing to really worry about besides the usually Focus to get out of it and even then we know that there is no true escape only minimizing the damage.

So this is a solid set up if you get it to work. It is about as close to guaranteed damage as you can get in a fighting game.

Now where’s that quote of Sol saying that he doesn’t like wiffing normals for timing.

Just messin, good shit!

To save myself a little bit of lab time, you mentioned that you’re testing which side you land on. Does this change dependent on the normal used, the timing of the normal or a combination of both? I’m basically asking if you can mix it up even if you’ve shown your hand by wiffing normals for timing.

whiffing normals for unblockables is different… it’s not like it’s gonna signal to the player what’s gonna come so they can react accordingly coz it doesn’t matter, just they’re about to be nailed and they’re pretty screwed

But try again, valiant white knight!

I did say that for hard to time moves like unblockables I don’t mind using them

¬_¬ I didn’t think I’d have to elaborate.

“Just messin” means I understand. Hell, the only reason I actually remember that post is because I agree with you on it. It’s kind of sad that the default mindset on this board is to assume someone is slagging you off.

sup, just started playing ssf4 ae a while ago, i am still at scrub level, transitioning from a pad to a stick too. also i never played 3rd strike, so i dont know ao to escape trows, ao do escape or refuse a trow?

Was watching Tokido’s match from Korea… He did a forward throw, dash, cr.MK, j.MK against Abel. Anything behind this guys?

Did ya ever think maybe he wants his opponent to think he’s going for a new unblockable, forcing them t use some sort of escape move, only to punish it?

Next level mind games, imo

There are other crazy set ups besides the unblockables. Like fake cross ups and all sorts of other goodies.

That’s what I thought, yeah, but the Ibuki unblockable came to my mind and felt like asking, you never know lol.

So, anyone tried that?
