Akuma Set-up Thread: We are unblockable!

With double dashing it’s still pretty hard to tell whether you’re going for a normal safe jump or x-up tatsu. Not to mention you can do pretty universal shit like empty jump low (especially against hard-or-impossible-to-safe-jump characters). Akuma has a myriad of tools in every setup and primarily as a Ken player, I’m really jealous.

This setup in particular works very well. It is easy to insert the Demon flip OS to chase any escapes.

Does anyone have any videos of people doing the corner crossup j.hk after wakeup. Maybe I’m doing it right or maybe its wrong but i find the timing really difficult and i need to do it a bit late for it to actually hit, but the thing is if i do that the guy can just dash or walk forward anyway on wakeup and it will whiff, so it isnt exactly meaty.

Also I’ve played akuma for the longest time but sometimes i get the distances fucked up for df palm whiff on wakeup depending on which character im playing. For example on ryu if i do a crossup df palm it will cross up but on sagat at the same distance ill land right in front of him instead and end up blocking the wrong way :X. Can someone recommend a way to practice the os c.lk combo starter after the whiff. many times ill end up getting grabbed or reversal’d. (but its online)

Can we get a list of the unblockable for forward throw into corner? Like on ryu/ken its forward throw, duble dash then jump mk. Works on others too. would be nice to have that truly unblockable with a list of who it works on.

The forward throw into corner double dash unblockable works on Ryu/E.Ryu/Ken/Akuma/Makoto.

Already have a complete list in here, I just don’t remember where. it was not made be me.

So here i made a complete list for the unblockable. Also listed characters’ possible ways to escape it etc I used the throw, s.rh, j.lk way. Oppoenents on 1p, Akuma on 2p. Used the left corner.

Ryu: As already been said his srk/super/ultras make j.lk whiff and OS sweep come out, but u can recovery in time to punish
Ken: Same stuff with Ryu. Not sure if you can punish his lp srk
Honda: Unblockable doesn’t work here. Seems like his big hitbox helps him separate a cross up/normal attack better, if you know what i mean. He can block it by pressing forward
Ibuki: Same stuff with Ryu.
Makoto: Everything she has loses except her U2 that will make j.lk whiff and then land at the other end of the screen. Note: she can’t hit you with the short U2 version.
Dudley: Seems like he is waking up slower than normal (Ryu kind), j.lk whiffed just like that and also when i did his srk he auto-corrected me so yeah he probably wakes up slower.
Seth: Same with Dudley
Gouken: Same with Dudley
Akuma: A strange message popped up when i picked Akuma, was like “You are using my techniques against me!!! Prepare to meet your maker!!!” So yeah… He can block it by pressing back
Gen: Strange case, can block it by pressing back.
Dan: Same with Ryu.
Sakura: same with Gen
Juri: Same with Gen
Chun Li: Same with Gen
Dhalsim: Same with Dudley
Abel: Same with Gen
C. Viper: Same with Dudley
Bison: Same with Gen
Sagat: He has a slower wake up, can’t really test
Cammy: Same with Sagat
DJ: Same with Dudley
Cody: Same with Gen
Guy: wtf here. Blocks it both ways lol

Blanka: Wierd, block it by holding back, gets hit by holding forward but stays in the corner.

Balrog: Wakes up slower, can’t really test.
Fei Long: Same with Gen
T. Hawk: Same with Dudley
Adon: Wakes up faster, can’t really test.

Ok some notes:

It seems that there are 2 timings where the j.lk whiffs vs Ryu’s lp srk although one of them isn’t unblockable as Ryu can block it by holding forward. However, it changes the ways it can be blocked for the “Gen/Guy” cases. Dudley cases are still unaffected of course.

I got those results by using the timing where it is unblockable vs Ryu and his lp srk whiffs.

Does anyone know any setups that safejump 4 frame reversals?

At the moment I try to time the jump and practice it in training but playing mainly online it comes with consistency issues :P.

Sweep> instant jump and command dive kick (d+mk) as fast as possible, you will lose to the reversal if you didn’t activate the dive kick on the first possible frame in the air.

Some characters wakeup a bit slower after sweep so this setup will whiff on them (Cammy, Sagat & Blanka).

Ah thanks man :). I’m not fussed about Sagat and Cammy because they have 5 frames reversals it’s pretty easy to safejump them.

Shame that this setup doesn’t work on Blanka tho!

DID SOMEONE CALL FOR AN UNBLOCKABLE! (I swear if someone else already found this I am going to be pissed)

As far I have heard the only unblockable characters were Ryu, Ken, Makoto, and E.Ryu. But I have found one against Ibuki.

How to do it

Forward Throw into Corner
c.HK sweep for timing
j.MK

This sweep timing is just a frame or two too fast from the perfect timing while s.HK is too slow. If you can find a set up that takes up 34-35 frames (c.HK is 33 and s.HK is 36) you will have the perfect timing.

Awesome find man, I was looking for new 4 frame reversal safejumps today (will post 'em later when I’m done) and one of the corner setups that I found for that works pretty much perfectly with the unblockable, you don’t have to do any manual timing just make sure your execution is on point:

Forward throw > 1x dash > whiff close standing MP and instant j.mk

Since the opponent is the corner close st.mp will always come out, plinking it also makes the timing easier, I had high success landing the unblockable and my execution isn’t even good lol.

I think the magic number is 35 total frames before the jump-in (dash 18f + st.mp 17f), pretty sure sweep’s total frame count is 32 instead of 33 because the last startup frame as shown in the frame data is also the first active frame so it shouldn’t be counted twice AFAIK.

I can record and post the setup now that I have AE on PC, but I don’t want any credit of a setup you found, so try the setup I mentioned and record it if you think it works well.

BTW, I know you play Ibuki as well and not too long ago you mentioned that she has an unblockable vs Akuma, what is it btw and is there any way to escape it? This matchup is crazy, whoever gets the knockdown rapes the other lol.

Cool. Try stand jab stand fierce. 35 frames total. Unless it’s too close for the far fierce.

This set up seems to work well on other characters. Although it doesnt appear to be a UB but a crazy fake cross up that crosses up!
Basically when i tried it on Sakura and Guile I noticed that the Jump mk hits at the front but the animation clearly shows it as a clear cross up. Akuma seems to land behind them in the corner rather than infront, yet it hits in the front.

Anyone else get this or try this?

Gonna try it out later, seems legit though.
