Akuma Set-up Thread: AE 2012 Specific

Just in case you guys forgot, whiffing fs. fierce after demonflip grab sets up a 4 frame safe jump and if youre in the corner you can whiff throw for the same exact setup.

Add cr. jab at the start of the combo. I can’t actually give you an exact timing on the kick; it’s delayed, but it just feels “off” compared to a typical delayed kick. It doesn’t seem like the same timing as what many delayed kicks are off of some type of throw, but it might just be the proximity throwing me off. Regardless, you should be able to get it after a few attempts.

Ok tried on Ryu and Sagat, no cross up found yet.
So if you know better just write some setups please.
I’m still convinced DF kick never cross up. But will try on the fat guys a bit later.

Try characters like Fei-Long, Dudley, Juri and Sakura. They have some pretty big horizontal hit boxes which is why corner setups that utilize j.rh and fake cross up demon flip dive kicks work on them.

Actually, it’s my bad. It is a crossup on Sagat, but only while crouch blocking; which is what most people do anyway for dives if they aren’t just going to focus or dash. They will have to stand to block, or focus/dash since you can just change the timing and hit from the front instead.

edit: Actually, they can’t block it crouching in either direction. So they have to stand up to block.

Thanks for filling up for me Volcanic  I’ll still make videos to demonstrate anyway.

Cross up divekicks after anything? Or do you want a cross up divekick after sweep Shabrout?

Same thing as above with just a slight variation in timing. Works on Guile, Gouken, Fei and Dan. Although Dan can simply hold straight down to avoid it; but who does that? Sorry if this isn’t what you’d consider a crossup, but it forces them to block high.

That’s some nice work guyz.
I’ll try those tomorrow. All I got on Sagat with lp hp tatsu sweep instant DF early kick was a whiff on crouch. Weird.
Anything that will lead to cross up dive will do Unleash. Sweep, throw, taunt…

Btw I’m getting ready to join some PC tournament on Fightplay the mext month if I can get a headset. Sucks not to be able to talk with all these cool guyz.

Yeah, like I said, the timing is different. Basically on Sagat it’s not quite as late as possible, but close to it. If you wait too long the kick simply passes over him. I have no idea what the actual timing is, but it feels like it’s a few frames before “late as possible”.

I’ve been searching through this tread and I couldn’t find anywhere. (Sorry if it has already been answered).
Most of these setups come from throws. What are the setups after sweep?
I’ve seen the sweep > command dive kick against Guile, but I’m more worried about Sagat and Cammy.

Every approach I try I eat a SRK…lol

Well, most of the setups “after sweeps” in general come from tatsu sweep combos, not just sweeps in general, although there are a few things that work pretty well against most 4fr and higher reversals:

  1. Depending on range, either walk forward or simply jump and do the command dive kick (down + MK). That beats the majority of non 3fr reversals and can even make some 3fr whiff if you took a step forward (depends on distance of course).

  2. Jumping MK (safe jump). You’d need to go into training mode and practice it to get a feel for the exact timing since there doesn’t really seem to be any normals that you can whiff that would give you a frame perfect safe jump. What I do is simply watch the expanding light halo thing that happens when a character falls, and jump right as it’s completely disappearing, hitting MK as late as possible. Usually, on a max range sweep you don’t need to look at that graphic, just take a small step forward and then do the jumping MK.

  3. If you do a max, or close to max range sweep, try doing a Demon Flip Palm whiff to cross them up before they rise.

  4. You can also simply do an empty jump if you expect a reversal, but if you are getting thrown a lot when trying that, just do a very late crouch tech (pretty hard online though so you might just go for normal tech).

  5. On some characters with moderately slow, or bad reversals you can empty jump just out of range of a throw and throw out a meaty attack which stuffs many reversal attempts.

That’s not everything, but it should get you started.

Against Cammy and Sagat specifically, you can easily command dive as well as safe jump MK after a sweep. You can also crossup tatsu depending on the distance. Look at the first video I posted on this page. You can try doing that against Sagat. Even if you can’t get the crossup timing down, if they try to reversal it will still whiff, allowing you to do it again. You can also do a demon flip palm against Sagat after a sweep, but I don’t know the timing on that. I’ve seen Infiltration do a whiffed jab before flipping, but that actually seems too slow to prevent a reversal. At least in training anyway.

Awesome. Tks.

Just found another one. This time Rufus. He can forward dash out of it, but considering the majority of dive setups hit from the front…
Picked him due to that strange cr. strong, cr. jab x2, cr. strong, sweep combo. I didn’t bother trying that combo for the crossup yet since I keep having issues linking the sweep, but this might be the same distance. If this is old news, let me know. I’ve just never seen any true crossup dive setups mentioned since AE hit, just the fake or corner only versions.

Aww yeah, just found one on Rufus after a throw. Unsafe as shit though, so I don’t know if it has any value. Probably only just slightly less risky compared to doing a DF throw.

Crossup on Guile after a throw. Can’t be hit with a flashkick, but can be hit with one hit of his super and any crouching kick or strong will make it whiff. But I don’t see it mattering much since you can just alter the timing to make it hit normally.

If early DF kick is 0, late DF kick make you land 2 small squares ahead. Maybe this need more training cause I usually go for late ones every times…

Might be hard to see, but I’m not doing the DF instantly after the dashes end, I’m shifting forward slightly before going up in the air.

About Guile ? Yeah I saw the slight step. Training room again tomorrow. I got it on Guile, but Sagat resists.
Seems it’s not that late for him. I tried all the late and almost late and all whiff. I guess its around middle and slightly late ^^. Quite high in the air it looks like. height of his (Sagat) head when standing to input the flip.
