Akuma Set-up Thread: AE 2012 Specific

Yeah, well baiting shoryus and mixing up my attack patterns isn’t really something new to me, but it’s just that it seems like you can’t safe-jump ryu anymore at all lol. I’ve been in the lab for like an hour, and most of the setups ryu beats with either one of his shoryus or all of his shoryus. Like the setup that -6 used on Ken, the throw, dash x1, walk forward a bit and HK DF whiff palm, land on the other side, it can sometimes make all his reversals go the other way, but 8 times out 10 Ryus uppercuts just got autocorrected. Hell I couldn’t even safejump him with a jHK unless it was a really late jHK that wouldn’t even reach it’s active frames, but that’s a crappy safe-jump dare I say.
I dunno, exploding heart still works on some characters, but I feel that Ryu can now pretty much just mash DP anytime he sees akuma jump, and Akuma will eat that dp anytime of the week unless you were doing an emtpy jump with a perfect timing, this shit makes me mad D:

but just because he can tag you a couple times doesn’t mean you should stop.
sometimes you can use the fact that he’s committed to trying to DP you everytime and alter the setup a little bit.

Yeah, I expect my timing is off, but at the same time I could do this (Dash x 2, DF palm) before the patch, no problem. Hell, while IN a match a few days ago, I switched from Dash x 2 j.HK - Fukiage stuffed me, to Dash x 2, j.LK - Fukiage whiffed which allowed me to throw/sweep her. Since then, I’ve stuck to j.LK and it never fails me… I know someone around these forums said that the hitbox change on Makoto’s Fukiage makes the move connect even though it’s supposed to be safe jumpable (8f startup). Shit’s fucked up if you ask me, but hey, if it works for me… Mak’s been giving me problems ever since the update, now I’m back in charge!

@ Ganishka: My problem with Ryu now is his “back-to-easy-mode” cr.MK they now all like to spam like it’s going out of style… Before they buffed it back to “Patta de Dios” status again, you could always hang around the edge of his poke range without too much worry (as long as you were careful not to stick out stupid shit at the wrong time). Now I tend to stay a little farther away as even putting a pixel in range of his Big Toe nail will get you hit… which allows Ryu’s (good ones) to slowly inch me back towards the corner as I don’t want to have to deal with their spammed cr.MK (which they like to buffer into a Hado most of the time).

A bit more info on that anti Yun setup:

After a forward throw (not in the corner) the fs.hk > hk demon flip dive kick works really well. I’ve found the best method is to IMMEDIATELY press kick during the demon flip so it comes out as early as possible. I used this a lot last night to snuff out EX upkicks. Granted it connects (and wins) in the air (i.e. you don’t get a combo) it still beats upkicks outright. Definitely helpful in this matchup for sure.

Wacky corner setup for Honda. (Prolly works on all wide characters)

Forward throw into corner, jump behind the opponent then LK DF. You will get the odd DF that hits them from behind but is still a normal block and pull you back out of the corner. You can also just DF throw instead of kick as it puts you in the perfect spot. Causes Honda to lose his directional charge and buttsplash to whiff. However you must be deep enough in the corner so that you can jump behind them.

Does any one know what the difference in frame advantage between a sweep and df throw is?If i can find out a setup where after a sweep on guile or balrog,df throw and all reversals whiff.The current setup for it is after a df throw whiff cr mk then df throw

If frame perfect the df throw will whiff (df throw, cr.mk, df throw).

Either way I think I’ve found a nice setup vs most of the cast and completely safe against Balrog, but i didn’t find it properly yet.

The idea is to land a Demon Throw into corner and then another demon throw as meaty as possible. Against most of the cast is just a vortex option but against rog it will beat all of his ex wake up punches and it will be safe against Headbutts.

I’ve been doing: Demon Throw, c.lp, slight pause, LK Demon Throw. But i would like to find something that doesn’t require the slight pause.

I ask you guys to use this in game, its really good.

How about adding eithre another c.lp or scratching c.lp for c.mp? But then again idk how long the pause is you’re taking

For both characters, the Exploding Heart technique, ***fwd throw Dash x 2 DF Palm, ***seems to still work pretty well… The trick though is to land that ONE knockdown or throw and you’re good! But if you’re looking for Corner “Unblockable” setups, I don’t think Loyal’s found any yet… Or at least he hasn’t shared them with the rest of us! :stuck_out_tongue:

With Gouken I use dashx1 cr mk jump lk (fake crossup) or jump mk (true cross up). I am also using the wacky demon flip setup on wide characters because they don’t seem to understand WTF is happening.

-6’s play has inspired me to SLIGHTLY shift away from set up/unblockable based gameplay and go back to the fundamentals, but the work you guys have been putting in(especially Loyalsol) is awe inspiring. I’m really thankful that you guys are going hard for our character. I book marked that corner set up chart and look forward to applying it to my gameplay.

Maybe someone can do a similar chart for mid screen stuff too?

Oh, and I know I asked this before, but I forgot. What is the Classic Unblockable set up again(C.Unblockable)? Is it dash, CLOSE mp or dash CROUCH mp?

Back throw>ex df>delayed dive kick. If they duck it is unblockable. Also avoids reversal dp.
