I’ll start. I don’t think he’s top tier. I think he was right where he should be when they put him in high-mid tier before. Obviously in the right hands he’s a beast with his vortex and all his options. However, in the wrong hands or even the right hands having a bad day or one bad decision could easily cost you the match because he’s like made of glass.
Matchups I don’t agree with:
Zangief - Probably a 6/4. I play this matchup often and a good Zangief who knows the matchup does not lose 7/10. Akuma has the tools to deal with Zangief but in top level play, I think Zangief is underrated in this matchup.
Cammy - I don’t think I need to say anything about this. When was this EVER a even matchup for Akuma?
Blanka- Definitely feel the match is in Blanka’s favour.
Dictator - Might be even, but usually in dictator’s favour on most levels.
I always have problems with Cammy, Rose and Rufus. Im so terrible that no matter who is playing them, they all do the same stuff and it still kills me.
Also, I dont think the Ryu match up is too bad, but maybe it’s cause Im familiar with it
yawns … not this ‘bs’ again. No one plays alike nor expects the same results as the tier indicates. That said, it is expected that certain chars have a slight adv. over another. Examp. Gief’s stamina over Akuma’s. Isn’t this the balance all you crybabies have dirtied your diapers over since vanilla. Now you wanna wet yourselves as well. Figures. Oh yeah, Ryu is still the most powerful. LMAO!
Interested in hearing how you guys feel about Akuma’s placement as number 1.
I was losing confidence in SSF4 Akuma, but according to both tier lists, it’s me…not Akuma. Just gotta get stronger. His health is a real bitch to work with sometimes, and they nerfed his stun output too much, but he has a boatload of tools and does a lot of damage. I don’t think he’s number 1 in the game like the IPW list says, though. Tokido feels Akuma’s worst match ups are Bison, Honda, Cammy and Balrog. I agree with all of those except Balrog. Mago and Nemo both also agreed in an interview that he has some trouble vs some of the top tiers. I talked briefly with Marn on FB and he said he felt Dudley countered Ryu and Akuma. I’m leaning towards agreeing with that simply because Dudley has EASY and DAMAGING punishes for teleports that don’t even require real reactions, forcing Akuma to keep still most of the time and endure his pressure and mega-damaging mix ups.
Adv matches for sure IMO - Guile, Chun Li, Abel, Zangief, T.Hawk, Makoto,Hakan, Viper, Gouken, Dan, Juri.
Disadvantage - Bison, Cammy, Honda, Dudley
Rest are even or I’m on the fence/not sure about.
When I get back to the USA I’m going to work with him again and try to get more consistent. If anyone questions why I might feel he loses to such and such or beats such and such feel free to ask. I’m a competent player and not just spewing at the mouth.
EDIT - Looking at the size of my advantages list, Akuma prolly is top 5 or so. It’s easy to get down on your character when you’ve been losing a lot lately, but sometimes you gotta look within and just suck it up to playing like ass and not up to their tier standards XD
It’s important to know exactly what tier lists represent, what data they’re made from, etc., before trying to utilize the very small amount of actually valuable information they supply, especially at this point in the game’s cycle.
This logic is inherently flawed. In the “right hands” any character with the options they need for the situation at hand will come out on top assuming they manage to outplay their opponent. This is true with any character. Akuma just has a lot more options than many characters, so he’ll always be higher up on the tier list.
Correlating options available with player skill completely goes against the idea of what tier lists try to represent. In reality tier lists, at this point in the game’s cycle, only represent what characters a majority of players / a larger amount of players with skill over the median skill level are using. In current tier lists there are characters represented that have less than 2% of all matches played.
I feel the same way. Best offensive tools in the game but is too risky at times. I’d say he can be the best overall when played properly, otherwise he can cause great headache. Also, I always thought he dominated Abel? I guess it changes once Abel gets ultra, huh?
ahhh i like that. i always say, in a perfect world where nobody makes a mistake, Akuma is easily the best character in the game.
