Here’s a vortex setup boiz, ex dp v trigger cancel causes hard knockdown.

Just some general Akuma stuff:

After forward throw you can empty buffer St.Mk to LK Tatsu or VS+P. This will beat Chun Li wake up Cr.Lp.
The setup is as follows:

F+LP+LK, dash, St.Mk XX special ender or VS

what is the general gameplan you are guys using? I’ve been doing a pure rushdown but keep getting destroyed with counter hits

Use fireball at neutral to disguise your attempts at rushdown and hopefully make the damage you have to do less once you do get in.

Once in you can right now just kinda flowchart cr.mp>st.mk confirm or do cr.mp>throw

As an alternative to that just do st.lk>throw as it is much faster and they will be conditioned to delay tech which won’t be fast enough.

If you get them in the corner try to throw them then use throw loop mixups. Yesterday I threw someone 4 times in a row before they teched.

A mixup is dash forward and fhp instead of throw. That fhp mixup also works after a blocked jumpin cause people will autopilot a tech there. Alternatively if the fhp is starting to get stuffed or they are less likely to fall for it, use cr.hp to CC them. If it hits dash forward and bhp into ender.

Neutral against characters that have a hard time against fireballs is to just throw fireballs.

If they are good against fireballs then it becomes more of a bait thing. Don’t be afraid to bait for long periods of time with akuma. His offense is so good and damaging that you don’t need to get in fast.

If you get super I like to start to use dash in mindgames and use cr.mk xx fireball from near max range and if it hits I confirm into super. It’s by far my most lethal tactic cause it does a good chunk from footsies position.

I haven’t figured out his v trigger neutral yet, but something I like is empty cancel jab fireball xx vtrigger then demonflip forward with airfireballs. It covers a huge amount of screen and is almost a free way in.

I’m treating him mostly like Ryu with a better shimmy. I feel like you gotta really pick your buttons due to his low health. CR.Hp is a great footsie button and confirms into CR.Hk to get things started. He’s got a lot of options to beat wake up buttons depending on what your ender is. For AA I stick with LP/MP DP. B.HP is decent but, in my experience, not as reliable as DP. There isn’t much need to spend meter apart from when you want to extend damage or wake up with EX DP. His fireball game, in my opinion, especially in VT is top notch. Like you really can zone with him if you pick the right spots. One thing I want to implement more is punishing dashes. I feel as time goes on, we’re gonna have to be very consistent with that. Can’t let people get in for free. And finally, abuse his jump arc. If done well, he’s really hard to AA due to his arc altering jumps.

i’m just having the same “getting the feel” type problem i had with urien, but after a month urien had carried me all the way to super silver so i guess it’s just the same process

In the unlikely event that you can’t open people up with Akuma when they have a sliver of life left, he has an instant overhead/fuzzy with J.LP. Don’t know if anyone posted it yet.

Really not sure of what to think of this character. His Damage and Oki is nuts, but his neutral game feels really lacking…

thats what i’m saying, coming from a urien main who’s st.mk was halfway across the screen the footsies are weird. I guess i have to go back the the ryu mindset, which is using the fireball as a poke like button.

Ok so I have his v trigger partially figured out, but first:

V trigger:

i think I’ve figured out his v trigger. First of all it lasts forever. But he only gets like 4 fireballs in it before it’s depleted. But his red fireballs don’t deplete meter. So basically you really have to pay for neutral fireballs now. They are best used in combo or not at all more than likely.

Ok so… what to do?

Demonflip air fireball is stupid dumb. You can “fake” this by doing jab demonflip punch. This will allow akuma to stall and setup either a dash in or demonflip air fireball.

Once in his combos do dumb ass damage for basically no meter since his DP does 200 damage.

So basically he gets a nerf to his fireball game but a buff to his damage, in v trigger.

Yesterday I tested and used jab fireball empty cancel demonflip air fireballs and it worked… but it doesn’t in training mode because you can’t have air and ground fireballs at the same time. Mine must have been making contact with my opponent and allowed the airfireballs to come out.

You can circumvent this by using HP as the fireball to empty cancel and it will dissipate by the time your v trigger demonflip fireball comes out… but of course it won’t control fullscreen anymore like the jab fireball.

You can actually whiff punish a lot with st.Mk

He doesn’t have very good ranged pokes but he can actually do stuff

I’m coming from Birdie so maybe it’s just me being spoiled rotten with good normals. Still though, it feels like you have to rely on fireball to get a knockdown in neutral or whiff punish with s.MK into tatsu. I’m surprised ppl are calling him Top Tier, i’m not seeing it right now, maybe it just takes some time to figure out his neutral game.

when people came out saying top tier i was like what the fuck, but if tokido is going to main him and eita and maybe momochi then i must be doing something wrong

I don’t know where the top tier comments are coming from either. I’m seeing high mid tier, at best. If I was a hardcore tier whore I wouldn’t touch him, but he’s my 20+ year main so I’m rocking him regardless. Pretty technical play involved without much more reward (and in some cases, none) over several other easier characters.

exactly, if i don’t see or figure out some type of progress with akuma in about a month and half i might stick with urien

To me he feels really good but to be honest I am not sure that he is better than Ken for example. Granted as a Ken main I am happy when I play Akuma to be able to press more than one button before being minus and having to steal turns.

I guess we’ll see if Momochi switch.
