What in particular are you having trouble with :O?
This game is fun.
Can someone give me some tips on how to play Sai? The wiki lists some stuff on oki and I know about his crossup jB.
There’s some match videos here that you can pick stuff up from: http://www.youtube.com/user/xUberSoldatx
And some of Sai’s (and Aka’s) bread and butter combos:
Thanks. Now I have some idea on what to do.
Hate, I play Sai. I can give you tips too if you need specific info
That would be nice. I’ll add you to msn.
Maybe we can have some matches later this week as well.
I would if I knew where to get it. I’ve been wanted to play Kanae for a while, I like fast grapplers.
Surely you jest. Try torrents? Or alternatively, join #akatsuki on mizuumi.net irc server and check the topic. There’s also a great wiki. Did I mention that there’s a channel with tons of vids too? xubersoldatx on youtube. There’s a bunch of stuff to help you from the get go. The best thing to do though is just jump right onto netplay (UNLOCK EVERYTHING FIRST) because in all honesty, there isn’t much to learn IMO.
I have a lot of troubles dealing with pressure. I can keep my distance well enough for a novice, but my defense is abysmal.
Well in general, if someone manages to get in on you (which they will somehow) you will get hurt, bad. That much is obvious. Anonym is severely lacking in a move to just get your opponent off of you.
What you have to realize is how to realize how easily some characters can or can not get in on her. Now this is my personal list, so take this how you will.
Characters who will hate fighting against her:
Mycale
Characters can handle keeping away / zone well against:
Akatsuki, Wei, E. Soldat, Adler, Fritz.
Characters she can not handle well at all:
Sai, Kanae, Marilyn Sue, Murakumo
J.2C / shoot his metal ass all day:
Blitztank
Mycale will either try and establish a long range projectile spam game against you, or try to get in on you (it’s usually the former). Fortunately for you Anonym does this much quicker, leaving Mycale very little time to sit there and set anything up. 236A is a great tool to use in this match up as it will set Anonym ahead of fire / spear. Constant jumping shots and proper bullet management should lead this match up nicely in your favor.
Against Akatsuki / E. Soldat, Adler, you’re going to want to use alot of 2B / 5C to keep them from aimlessly jumping in on you. 22B is a good tool to use here as well, I sincerely doubt any one from this ‘bracket’ will be far enough to have you utilizing 22C instead. Wei can eat 5B all day, because you don’t want him activating ‘blue’ super armor, otherwise you’re going to have problems. Be forewarned against him though, he can shoulder rush you if you’re predictable, and your specials on block aren’t very safe against him. As for Fritz, well try using her 214A/C to get the hell away from him. As soon as you manage to actually create some space between you and Fritz it will be pretty tough for him to deal with her zoning. It’s not free mind you, he’s got teleports, but keeping your calm here with the usual (5A, 2B, 5C, 22B) will work for you.
Sai, Kanae, Sue, and Mura will make you hate the fact that you’re playing Anonym. It’s pretty easy for these characters to get in on you, which means you will likely switch from a zoning game to straight up runaway and mix up. For Sai and Mura try to anticipate them actually getting in and mix up 22B and 22A. They’ll think 22B is coming out and run / jump into 22A instead. 2B > 5C will work here, along with some 5A. In general don’t use any of her 236 specials in these match ups. Sai can elbow you in the face on block, Mura can teleport right past them, Kanae will roll by them, and Sue will just eat them up with her auto guard. This goes double for 236BC and 22BC, Sai can elbow both on block as well, though Kanae may eat 236BC in the face if you catch her spamming roll. Unfortunately, if Kanae gets in it’s likely you might lose. She can literally grab you out of many attempts you would have to get her off of you. 22A for instance, will come out completely, but will pass through her as she does 236 whatever in anticipation of you. As for Mura, it’s likely that he’ll teleport right ontop of you and come down with a random normal. Try to shield the normal in anticipation. Use TK 214A/C or regular 214A/C in this match up to help establish space too.
As for Blitztank, j.2C all damn day and shoot his ass. Jumping up and doing 214B should clear his 236C laser’s reach too. Just be careful not to eat lvl 3 laser to the face.
General notes about defense with Anonym:
Just because your opponent managed to get a path to jump in on you doesn’t mean it’s clear sailing for them. It’s here that you can force them to guess how you’re going to stop them.
4C - This is her general anti air. If you don’t have bullets you’ll probably fall back on this. This will launch your opponent and allow you to follow up with a combo that will throw them all the way across the screen, or right next to you (dependent on your bullet meter). This works pretty well as an AA if you mix up your options well.
5C - This is good to use when you play someone not used to Anonym, but as soon they manage to catch on, it’s time to mix it up. Use it too often and they’ll reflect right through it and hurt you plenty for it. Best used in conjunction 2B as premptive defensive string.
236C - Once 5C stops working, try going with, but make sure you’re actually spaced properly for it, don’t forget it actually pushes you back a little. They’ll shield the first hit and eat the two other bullets. Again, be careful, because it’s pretty easy to reflect this if you don’t mix up properly.
22A/B/C - This is best used to keep them from reaching the apex of their jump when they start descending onto you, whether that’s actually keeping them grounded or just stopping halfway through said arc. Trickier to use then the other options due to it bouncing off the walls and having differing positions based on which button you use. Best used in bullet strings and less as a reactive anti air.
Airthrow - Once they just start reflecting shit it’s to time to grab them in the air and shove into the floor with an airthrow. This is just as important to use as part of her mix up as her other AA’s, so do not dismiss it. Use 214A/C to set yourself apart from them after them, or follow up with what you want.
Personally I don’t think it’s worth it at all to meet with them air to air with normals or a reflector, it resides too much in their favor and much less in yours.
As for wake ups, she has one or two options. If you find your opponent constantly jumping over you to try for a mix up (or ontop of you while you’re on the corner) throw out 22BC. They’ll eat the grunt of the bullet spray and it will hurt. Use this only when you’re sure they’re going to get hit by it because reflecting in this game is dumb enough that it’s possible to reflect it in anticipation by mashing B+C. Yes I’m serious.
You could use 22BC to set up space as well as a makeshift AA but I would advise against it, you have better options and some characters can make you cry even if it did push them away a considerable distance.
Outside of that, try 214A/C to push yourself away if you’re in the corner, but use it wisely.
Lastly, wake up dash forward can actually be used to get out of random situations / corner pressure on wake up, but again use it wisely and don’t spam it.
If all else fails pay attention to your opponent as well, and aim to reflect when you can use it for your own good, but that’s a given for all the characters in this game.
I think Anonym’s 214 and j.214 are the most obnoxious things in that matchup (from Mycale’s perspective). Plus Mycale’s really poor movement speed. I think it’s nigh impossible for Mycale to consistently/effectively chase an Anonym that doesn’t want to be caught.
Such a horrible matchup (in Anonym’s favor).
Yeah, her 214 / j.214 work well in that match up too.
At least she has one good match up.
Thanks, Chibi. I’ll get to work on that.
And by extension, at least Mycale has at least one bad matchup.

Awesome av, Chibi. :bgrin:
I’m having a bit of trouble with Soldat against Akatsuki and Murakumo most of the time; aside from the stuff in the wiki (which is already darn helpful) and the vids bell posted - any good tips/tricks to keep in mind against these two?
I just passed here to scream the obligatory BLITZ HEIL!

NEW CASTER UPDATE.
Features:
-
AUTO UNLOCK of characters and stages for all you lazy people out there. Note that this unlocking will not carry over to the offline game.
-
Much faster introduction skipping so you get to the character select immediately.
-
Improved frameskip functionality.
-
Automated replay naming and saving.
-
And features in the previous version that you may have overlooked: permanent window on top, auto-next during spectating, and a relay feature for when neither side can host (refer to the wiki’s Netplay page for details on how to use it).
Other stuff is mostly bug fixes:
-
It will only spit out desync messages when the game is REALLY desynced now.
-
Character select no longer has the players spazzing out when switching mode.
-
Character select should no longer have the problem of automatically canceling back from the stage select for no reason.
-
Spectators will see the correct random stage now.
Most of the remaining stuff to write is cosmetic or quality of life in nature, so I’m in basically no rush to develop further. The timing issue and desync messages were the last really big ones that needed doing.
Meaning if you want to play, it’s working great now so there’s no reason not to!
