I like the part where they can’t block while airdashing
Let’s be brutally honest here for a second though:
The characters who are going to be hit the hardest by this change and “screwed over” by it, as it were, are the characters who already had trouble getting in and could get zoned in Vanilla, and already were getting screwed over royally by the near global zoning buffs.
This change is clearly aimed at requiring the high tier rushdown characters to have to either be much more measured or cover approaches more often with assists ( a similar theme when you look at phantom move and berserker slash nerfs ).
And Capcom is clearly indicating ( and has clearly indicated every since we first got our hands on Ultimate ) that they don’t really give a damn that the low and low-mid tier rushdown characters are negatively impacted by these changes, and have no intention of making changes to the system OR characters to address this.
edit:
off topic: but this reminds me of a debate going on before vanilla went out, when people were complaining that zoners couldn’t actively zone because if they pressed a button while their opponent was in a neutral stance or in a normal attack animation, they’d eat a projectile hyper on reaction.
linear rushdown was barely nerfed at all, at least by this change…
only downback dash got slowed down, and most o the cast couldn’t airdash block anywyas.
Of course this is old news but its worth restating to center the discussion
The can’t block during dash hurts zipline dashes (Ammy, Spencer, Spiderman) and horizontal only dashes (Dante, Shuma) the most imo. 8 way air dashes, more or less the same imo.
If you normally call an assist, you’ll be fine.
So doing something like calling Chris’ Gun Fire assist should be cool then, right?
I agree that teleport rushdown is king but if you dont cover your character they will get bodied. Morrigan got some good buffs, she will be alot better than in vanilla. Its not really a nerf if it affects everyone it just means that players are gonna have to get better overall.
Are Spencer’s and Spidey’s ziplines even considered air dashes? If they’re just special moves, this change probably doesn’t effect them at all.
Spencer’s zipline was always vulnerable to getting hit, so that hasn’t changed. As for Spidey’s zipline, it was only vulnerable before the zipline found its target (while Spider-Man moved backwards, basically). Hopefully, Spider-Man’s zipline won’t be horribly affected by this, though I will miss abusing his standard forward webswing dash.
i’m not even asking for unlimited fly, unfly like in mvc2. i just wish he wasn’t degraded to just herp derp jumping h into s.
his current flight speed is fine, but his normals are so god damn slow.
i’ll take his stomp down game and a bufferable frying pan over his ground bounce frying any day. its almost impossible to catch people with a naked frying pan. i think the last time i caught someone with that move was the first week when mvc3 was released.
You wouldn’t happen to have anyone in mind, would you?
I think it’s fine. If you know how to use your assists to cover your approach you should be fine. Seems like rushdown is going to be a bit more technical. I’m still gonna main Nova,Rocket Raccoon (he’s gonna be GDLK. I can feel it.), and Doctor Doom though.
I realize this change buffs up-back warriors. Up-back was already powerful in Vanilla. Now it’s gone up on the tier list right above x-factor level 1. Will probably be tied with x-factor level 2 in December.
YOU CAN’T RUN AWAY!!
(Yay Taskmaster!)
upback is terrible in vanilla. “please air throw me!”
edit: there are a million reasons why rushdown is too strong in vanilla. They take away 1 and everyone starts freaking out for no reason.
Looks like I’ll have to work on my Stinger approaches
The problem is, there’s only oh so many times that you can get an up-back blocker with air throws before they catch on and tech. And calling out an assist to lock them down in the corner against someone like Ryu is asking to have your assist killed.
My post wasn’t meant to be taken seriously.
Well, by the demonstration in Max’s video, Morrigan really has no ground dash at all. This change pretty much fucks her over good.
i dont see what the problem with wanting to be rewarded for higher execution combos.
I’ll just repost what someone commented in the eventhubs article:
