AHM NUMBAH WAN - Hugo USF4 thread

Man fuck T. Hawk.

That may be possible, but is weird to time and space good, since Honda can manipulate his jump arc Forwards/backwards with that nj. hp, i tried st. hk several times against a 3,7k PP Honda the other day, Looks like late nj.hp beats it clean or worst case trades …

I think cr.MK will beat Honda’s nj.HP

Hah imo Dhalsim loses to or goes even with all of the current grapplers: lose to or even with Gief, even with Hawk, lose to Hakan. And if you want to count Abel and Makoto, he loses even worse.

But yeah Sagat and Juri seem like the eternal anti-grappler counterpicks so far. I have some hopes about Hawk & Hakan v Sagat in USF4, since neither loses badly in AE2012 and both are getting big buffs, but we’ll see.

I really don’t think Juri will be bad at all for Hugo. I mean, yeah, he’ll have to navigate her footstank, but once he’s through, what’s left for her? What’s the first thing Juris do when you get in close with Zangief? Every Juri backdashes or jumps away the moment you get in on her. Against Gief she might be able to jump away and escape, but Hugo has an answer for all of her escape attempts and will be able to vortex her constantly, making her desperate to get away and thus very predictable. She really doesn’t have very good options up close. The most she can hope for is landing a desperation pinwheel, which one might be able to catch with clothesline, backbreaker or U2.

I think it’s mostly due to Dhalsim being really bad in this game than anything. His archetype is supposed to beat Grapplers I feel.

The issue for Sim is damage. T-Hawk can just straight charge through limbs with no fear because he’s taking like 4% per hit.

Things like being a 900 health char, bad wakeup options, troubles to get out of the corner, Jumping normals on block aren´t safe enough or even allow your opponent to close the gap, help Hakan actually a lot in this matchup. As long as Sim hasn´t his Super yet, meaty pressure works well against Sim. Having a matchup, where you can oil up and go then for a meaty pressure is great. Also his backdash is rather terrible.
Maybe it is just me, but I don´t think that focusing through limbs is the only or the major reason, why Sim gets owned. Sim is just bad and in the wrong game.

Hakan doesn´t lose against Juri and Gat :).

Is there actually some kind of a matchup chart for Hugo?

I saw the final changes and it’s settled. I’m not going back to Gief for any reason. Hell, the whole reason I started using him in the first place was because Hugo wasn’t in the game.

You almost make it sound like gief got nerfed, yet he actually resevered several buffs.
St.mp hurtbox nerf isnt as horrible as it sounded earlier
hurtbox stick out 1 Frame before the move is ACTIVE, earlier it was mentioned that the hurtbox extends out on first frame of the move at all, would have been horrible …

lpgh is -2 on hit, also decent. usable in Combos now, more meter to go against fireballs and for rfa cancels maybe.
cl.st.mk +2 on block instead of 0 is also a nice buff, as well as far.st.mk being only -3 now instead of -7 (on hit -.-)

but why am i defending gief, im going to switch to Hugo too :stuck_out_tongue:

Very mild buffs. I don’t see him being better than Hawk or Hugo at all. Everyone else is beastly now so Gief doesn’t have enough to keep up. Besides, why would you want to use Gief when Hugo does everything better?

You saw the final changes? we talking about gief or hugo here?

One thing thats been bugging me about hugos grabs, does anyone know that the start up/range is on his moonsault press is (the spd one), i cant help but feel from watching vids that it doesnt quite have the same range as the other grapplers.

Quick question, has there ever been a top tier grappler in any fighting game, im not talking about initial tiers but when the lists have settled down somewhat after extensive play.

I personally have great hopes for hakan as being a real high teir contender, that guy has aged like a fine wine

Potemkin was well known for that.

well, i dont think hugos spd is somewhat shorter than thawks.
Giefs lp spd always had exceptional range i guess hugos lp spd will be as good as hawks lp spd

Giefs SPD in Ultra
lp spd: 1.7
mp spd: 1.45
hp spd: 1.35
ex spd: 1.45

Hawks SPD in Ultra
lp spd: 1.55
mp spd: 1.45
hp spd: 1.40
ex spd: 1.49

Hakans SPD in Ultra
lp spd: 1.05 / 1.79
mp spd: 1.05 / 1.56
hp spd: 1.05 / 1.50
ex spd: 1.20 / 1.79

every grappler received some kind of buff to their throw ranges (except gief who also got a nerf, next to his ex spd buff).
I can only assume that hugos lp spd will be somewhere around 1.35-1.45 range, since his long range grab seems to be Ultra Throw, which probably will have almost as much range as giefs lp spd, maybe a little less or maybe even more when kara’d into with clap.

It’s really hard to tell by the footage we have so far, lack of quality, midmatch, both characters moving around all the time… But i really believe hugos “long range” grab is supposed to be ultra throw, while regular spd will be the faster, but short-ranged punish

Honestly, absolutely no idea… chances are high that thawk will do well (but maybe only at first…)
I hope that Hugo will get some exploration and will at least end up somewhere in midtier at some point…

Only in specific instances of Guilty Gear though AFAIK. Not really consistent. Cerebella in Skullgirls is considered very strong. THawk in ST is considered top tier thanks to his unescapable OS setups (that took a loooooong time before he was top tier AFAIK). SF4 Vanilla Zangief was considered quite strong. Alpha 3 Vism Gief is considered strong though not “top tier” he is just outside. Goro Daimon in KOF98 is top tier. Clark in KOF13 is considered strong.

Also if I’m right Waldestein from Under Night In-Birth is considered a really strong character

Anyone know what’s there for Hugo?

Nothing about s.HPs armor or the MQ glitch, which makes me happy.

Some stuff:
s.MP damage up from 100 to 120
c.MP damage up from 80 to 110
BB builds less meter on hit? (from 110 to 80)
post-super BB only does 100 damage (I think it did the damage normal BB did before)
I think EX BB has 1 more frame of invincibility.
SPD’s start-up went from 3f to 2f.
MP clap’s start-up went from 21f to 19f.
I THINK non-EX Ultra throw has HP SPD range and EX Ultra Throw has LP SPD range.
LK Lariat does 100 damage, down from 120.
Super damage down from 360 to 300. (so super to BB used to do like 560 damage, now it does 400).

EDIT: http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2014/may/23/ultra-street-fighter-4-balance-changes-poison-hugo-rolento-and-elena/

One more I frame on EX BB is huge. Now it is much less likely to trade because the I frames only covered the startup previously.

Hammer Mountain invincible on frames 3-11… so…

I never found this out, does Hammer Mountain still let you hold the button down to run farther? Or is it automatic?

Can you still punish fireballs with it from nearly full screen? I mean, I’ve seen that Hugo runs INCREDIBLY fast in this when he does that super.
