The format they used in Hawaii had each player play 2/3 in finals. So the final set was like:
Chun player v Ibuki player <- 2/3 games
Dagger_G v Shigz <- 2/3 games
Dagger_G v Ibuki player <- 2/3 games

Personally I’m in favor of Hawaiis format. Single sets until Grand Finals which is 2 out of 3 like Fatbear eplained. Also keeping the character lock and entry fee. Unless there is an overwhelming response against it, we’ll just go with that.

The only thing is why do you not want a character lock so bad? The vote for it is just that its the standard way of running a 2v2 tourney, and also I think it promotes people to at least try and learn matchups with the character they claim to play, in other words I think it helps to foster a better skill base in the community, but no its not “That Hard” as you so ummm… sarcastically put it. Thats my view might as well just let the community decide as a whole though, I just feel character locks are the way to go.

Im against character locks cause i feel it aint tourney real if there is a character lock. Plan B has always been involved in tourney's. Its what makes great players GREAT. This " players need to learn the match up thing " is kinda bogus to me. People should do whatever it takes to win. And if you can pick another character to save you the effort then so be it.
I think Blind selecting and character lock **PER MATCH,** is way more smart and more helpful to players, then just character locking all the way through. It brings a sense of excitement to the game. Instead of people just hoping for good match-ups that there opponents cant get out of.
Im good with whatever, im just stating my case. As far as standards go, it use to be 3/5 for winners and losers finals as well, that got changed. What i suggested can be a change " and a positive one " and we dont have to X-Copy what everyone else is doing just because.

If we do run it single match until grand finals, blind select isn’t going to matter that much shrug but whatever Im good with whatever, I’ll take advantage of whatever is around.
Having explained the Hawaii format, I actually prefer doing multiple matches for grand finals. When I say match I mean one full 2v2 match. I think grand finals should be 2/3 matches. The rest of the tournament should be single match.
This is NOT how hawaii ran their tournament but I like this better. You get more variety of matchups this way and it gives the team who loses the first match a chance to swap their team order

as i explained earlier, i think the best way to play it is (a1 vs b1 2/3 rounds 1 game a2 v b2 2/3 rounds 1 game if a1 wins and b2 wins a1 v b2 2/3 rounds 1 game) this would be a set, and finals should be 2/3 sets and i think characters should be locked from the get go.
with that said, i’m announcing the strongest team that has ever been announced in any fighting game tournament ever. me and justin wong are teaming up for this tournament.
