Zakbg, it’s a Tsurugi cross up. On the first page under the match ups list is the cross up Tsurugi set ups guide made by Only Ash Remains if you’d like to know more of them.
LOL , I know what it is , but is it a cross up or is it just an ambigious non-cross up … im not stupid
Ggs zakbg.
Sorry, i had to leave…friends were coming!
I think it’s a non-cross up (in training mode at the moment).
They can block it like a non-cross up and Ken remains in the corner.
If they try to block it like a cross up Tsurugi will miss and Mak is in the corner.
If they just stand there Mak will make it look like a cross up and land in the corner.
So basically, ambiguous non-cross up Tsurugi that will only hit if they just stand there and don’t input any directions. :\
today i played ae online after playing a Week of bb. i decided that i NEED to get good with makoto so i took the liberty of garbing a notebook and took notes on matches that frustrated the shit outta me…so im going to nitpick about everything lolol. i didn’t know if this should go to the matchup thread or here but since this IS the question thread i figured i put it here first but if any of the mods feel this is the wrong place feel free to move it.
so heres my questions for today
- can anything with makoto beats guy’s EX bushin tastu on wakup?
2.what can mak do when deejay does his lp fireball>walk> slide? ( if you don’t know what im talking about its just when deejay throw a slow fireball to bait a jump/FA so he can slide and hit u)
-
i asked this before but can lag fuck up my FC? or am i just not v-ryu enough?
-
is it bad for mak to use alot of meter? i noticed i used her meter alot to end my combos cause i want my opponent in the corner. but i been praticing ways to NOT use meter. however i wanna know its its fine to use meter when i got it?
those are my questions for today. and lol i scribble “DASH AFTER AKUM-scribles”
No prob man , always nice to play with you , started using that fierce feint jab strong ex oroshi setup you did on me , its so sick and mashers cant uppercut it , its amazing !
i use it vs makoto because FFSS doesnt work on her.
thats chiba special xD
and did u love tsurugi -> kara ex fuki -> ex tsurugi on backdash? xD too much damage
I tried it when ken is blocking high (walking back consistently) and he didnt block it , its very weird … I dont know … not sure about it … but anyway … the chances of this setup happening in an actual match are close to none … looks cool though maybe ill try doing it in a match some day
hahaha yeah i saw that, how many characters does it work on ? btw when i saw your reply just now I was like “when the hell ?!” I was playing with a guy from here called pygmalion just now , he didnt block chiba’s setup even once and on top of that it hits meaty ! I actually forgot how you did it so after i did ex oroshi i whiffed a medium punch and jumped forward , is that how you usually do it ? Cause that way the next medium punch after the jump hits meaty , first time i tried with jab but he blocked it … maybe im doing something wrong ?
it works on every body.
hmmm, … > EX oroshi -> any light -> jump forward -> wait a bit -> stMP (meaty)
Gonna go to training mode for that now , I’m bored of fighting yuns and bisons today … why is there so many yuns and bisons … I feel underpowered lol
I just want to note that this thread is amazing. I’m a new Mak and I went through the OP…so much ridiculously useful info
and lol gowan im the same way…cant do fuki fast enough for AA
Didn’t want to make a new thread for this, but check it out:
HOLY SH*T !!! I WANT IT !! I WANT IT NOW !! Make a new thread !! Who is making these ?! I’m gonna love him forever ! When is it coming out ? What is “coming soon” supposed to mean ?!
I think I’m gonna have to get one of those : )

No. Safe jumps work, but that’s it.
-
FA dash and mix him up, FA dash backwards and punish the slide, neutral jump and mix up the Tsurugi you’re using to dodge/beat it depending on timing, just block after inching forward with f+LK or f+MP, U2 his fireball, etc. Dee Jay has many ways to AA depending on an opponent’s habits, it’s far from fireball -> slide. He’s got far s.HK, close s.MP, j.HK/j.HP, Knee shot, slide, and probably more to mess with jumping over his fireballs, not to mention his up kicks and U2 if you jump straight at him. Thing is, aside from his AA zoning, his knee shot, LK Sobat pressure, and his shoddy vortex, Dee Jay’s got little in AE.

Your fierce cancel? As in s.HP xx Hayate Cancel? Or Focus Cancel? Lag can do anything. Mild lag, not so much.

In SSF4, this was very opinionated, on if you want to save for Super or if you use EX Hayate (which was weaker and didn’t lead into Fukiage on most characters) or if you save it mostly for EX Oroshi. In AE, the general and recommended style is to EX Hayate all the time if you can, unless you’re using EX Oroshi in a blockstring; don’t save it for Super. EX Oroshi is still a good way to end a combo, since its Oki is off the hook, but cornering is valuable for so many reasons.
Hey guys I was checking out my character stats and I figure I’m pretty free against adon(31.% :s) t.hawk(42%) and (GASP) Dan(43%) every other match up is 50<. Any advice against those guys?
Robo gives his meager knowledge
Spoiler
Adon: lots of f+MP, s.MK, and s.HK at range to beat random Jaguar Kicks. c.HK/s.MP to beat Jaguar Tooths without putting much on the line. Don’t buffer poke. Jump back HP to beat badly timed closed Jaguar Kicks. Try to play defense until you score an AA hit, at which point you can start pressure. Watch out for neutral jump mind games, use s.MK/far c.HK to stay in the clear. You outpoke him. If he pulls stupid-ass unsafe Jaguar Kick/Jaguar Tooth into DP/throw mind games, do a really late crouch tech.
T. Hawk: tough match-up. c.MP and s.MP buffer pokes all day, hopefully you don’t buffer poke one of his Condor Spires and land right next to him. Advance with f+MP, watch out for c.HK while doing it. When AAing, be extra careful; it’s a tough situation, the only really reliable way to AA is to HP/EX Fukiage, otherwise you open yourself up to Condor Dive/empty jump mind games. If you suspect mashing, don’t IA Tsurugi, use jump back HP to beat EX DP and punish EX SPD. Don’t safe jump him with meter/U1, smart Hawks will EX SPD/U1 and make you pay. Play as guerrilla like as possible with pokes and dash up mind games, and if you have to guess if he’ll empty jump or dive, base it on if he has U1; if he has U1, try to AA every time, more than likely that’s the intent.
Dan: Lots of naked s.MP and c.MP pokes, and c.LK buffer pokes. Biggest thing to watch out for are jumping attack or late LK Danku in air to mess with AAs, so use Fukiage as much as possible. Either his j.LP or j.LK is exceptional anyway, you really should Fukiage. Dan’s main game is to either use LK Danku to bulldog Makoto with chip, or HK Danku to put you into DP/throw/backdash mind-games. To mess with LK Danku, you can actually c.MK between his c.MP and I believe s.MP, it lowers her hit-box and whacks him. To deal with HK Danku, LATE TECH. Most Dan players won’t be able to deal with that. DP will get blocked, throws will get teched, and you’ll be safe from backdash into EX/HK Danku. Try not to FA or backdash much in the match-up, Dan gets to blow those things up pretty soundly via his ordinary gameplay. Dan can get safe jumped via normal means, unlike some SRKs.
On your wake-up, don’t do shit. He’s either gonna do one of those two Dankus (which beat all her options except for wake-up Ultra), throw, or c.LK hit-confirm. Or neutral jump, possibly into late LK Danku. Don’t do shit, take the throw if you have to.
What do you guys do when someone tries to cross you up on wakeup? (usually a jump cross-up like ken j.mk)
Block.
