any advice on how to get out of corner pressure with makoto. when i get in the corner im helpless

also what some good mak players i can look at online to study?

there is no guard crush…so…guard.
And try to punish/escape when you can (you must know opponent moves/Frame advantage to do it though)

Tsurugi is a really good way out of the corner if there’s a break in pressure and you get lucky. Depending on your opponent’s character, sometimes you can do a random c.MP xx EX Hayate to get out of the corner, and hope to not get punished. You can buffer poke during any break, too, mainly c.LK xx EX Hayate. You also have escape U2, dash forward EX Karakusa/backthrow, and f+MP, but these things can be punished easily. I recommend mainly blocking

Getting cornered sucks, try not to make the first move when deciding on how to get out.

Haitani, V-Ryu, Shiro, BIGDANMUL, and Mok11bk are your best bets for learning new tricks and technology.

Wait for a jump and dash forward to put your opponent in the corner, and escape.
Backthrow when you can.
ex hayate on guard can be punish, but not necessarly, and it will push you out of the corner.
Neutral jump tsurugi are good too.
Don’t be in the corner in the first place =)

If you’re going to wait for a jump, its better to fukiage :D. LP for forward jump and MP for neutral jump. This can be done after your whiffed crouch tech so:

3LK+LP, 1313 LP/MP

That is unless they have a dive kick. Then it gets dificult. But that’s a whole 'nother post. All of the other ideas are good too. Especially the “don’t be in the corner” one.

Oh another thing you can do is go for a late crouch tech, if you get a counter hit, do a back throw. Now THEY are in the corner :).

advanced:
if they jump at you and you do fukiage, do “dash -> LP fukiage” instead of another normal (kara) fukiage.
as mossad said, now THEY are in the corner :>

This probably have been posted before already, but here it goes:

After Karakusa -> HP x EX Oroshi, forward jump and middle height Tsurugi:

Unblockable on: Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Oni, Viper, Evil Ryu.
Unblockable except forward block on Dhalsim, Cody.
Beaten by reversals: Yun, Chun Li, Abel, DeeJay, Guy, Blanka, Zangief, Rufus, Rose, Makoto.
Tsurugi misses on: Makoto, Sakura, Dictator, Cammy

Is this for AE or 2012 edition?

AE. Most likely 2012. v-ryu posted this setup on his youtube page awhile ago on a few characters. I don’t think it’s been explored past the few characters he tested it on though.

Pretty sure fuki-dash-fuki also works if you get crumble focus.

Something weird I noticed while going through the wiki and in training mode.

Makoto has some of the lowest damage normals in the game. Just weird considering it always seemed like she was supposed to be a character like Fei with really strong normals. Her hitboxes are really good but outside the s.MP and c.MP her frame data is pretty “meh” considering her damage is about 15% lower for her HP/HK/MK.

Not complaining, she has some of the highest damage combos in the game (if you have EX meter) but I just thought it was odd for her to basically have the same level damage on her normals as characters like Dhalsim or El Fuerte.

Is this a genuine “Dash cancel” then? Haven´t been able to test it yet…

There’s no cancelling involved there. And Fukiage isn’t even dash cancellable.

Godly, I couldn’t do Fuki-dash-Fuki after FA3. Judging by where the body is when the second Fuki comes out, I’d say it’s not possible. Have you tested it?

i only do it as anti air (half circle backward for the second fuki).
Didnt try after FA

I still remember that Makoto mirror match >.<. You’ll be getting Sakura from now on :stuck_out_tongue:

It is possible. At least on Ryu.
I figured out what is needed for it to work. The Fukiage needs to hit during the later active frames (meaty I guess?), so you need to do it before they reach the air born part of a crumble. That way you recover soon enough to dash under and do another Fukiage.

Focus (counterhit lvl1, lvl2 or lvl3 crumble) > Back Dash gives you the right timing for the HP Fuki-dash-fuki (followed up with Tsurugi or Hayate whatever).
Just listing an option, if you crumble the opponent, that can put them in the corner.

Nah I give up. Makoto is too hard to play. I just can’t beat people who mash out dp or throw out random footsies. She get’s beaten by pretty much everything it seems like.

I can’t seem to win against ‘bad’ players, I guess that means I’m bad too. But then I jump on my old main and start schooling these people who were kicking my ass.

It’s too much work with Makoto. You gotta play too random with her, and SSFIV AE doesn’t reward random. Once your opponent knows Makotos gimmicks, it’s over. Plus no real reversal doesn’t make her much of a threat.

Well thanks for all your help anyway. Especially Robot Makoto. Best of luck.

Again… as good as she is… she’s not for everyone…

Makoto is smart stuff, even if the opp knows all of makoto’s “gimmicks”, they cant do 1 single thing to beat all, or to beat one of her most powerful tools: “do nothing”

I know it sounds weird but Makoto is better against better players, then she is against bad players. Against bad players it just becomes a drawn out boring game of anti airing their jump ins and punishing all the unsafe shit they throw out. I swear it looks like I’m using a charge character when I play a person I know likes to mash dp. Against good players you actually have the chance to try mixups and meaty setups that make Makoto so fun to use.

Anyway I’m sorry you decided to drop her, she’s hella fun.
