For me, Hayate Canceling with LP+LK is easiest and works for me every time. Beyond that, it’s a 1 frame link with funky timing … at least it’s plink-able.

Oh, ok I just tried doing lp + lk like you said it it does an instant hayate cancel… I see how it works now.

I was trying to do the punch button first, then cancel it with the kick. It’s much easier if you press both the p and k buttons at the same time.

Sitting here in practice, I’ve landed a couple mp follow ups, but it sure isn’t easy. I’ll try plinking. Thanks Robo, you’ve helped me a lot with Makoto on here. I still have a <50% win ratio and lose to people I believe are far worse players than I am. I get randomed out, I start to panic when people start to throw out random dps, I’m deathly afraid of reversal dps and won’t dare karakusa/st.mp on offensive wakeup, but hey, I’m trying. Most of all, I’m enjoying the character.

I think you could be canceling the Hayate too slowly.
Press the punch and the kick button at the same time (so you’re doing hayate motion + P and K to cancel on first frame (remember to hold a short bit as it doesn’t cancel immediately)).
As for me, I use MP + LK to Hayate cancel, and then plink the MP with LK (I pretty much plink everything with my thumb on LK, unless it’s a LK I’m plinking).

But connecting that st.mp is a little tricky. Have to work on my plinks. The stun from that combo is very nice, which is why I want to be proficient at it.

Does anyone know roughly how negative a Tsurugi is on block when done low (does it matter how low it is done)?

is a meaty hp Hayate worth it mid screen? …i have this set up that causes it to be meaty but if its not worth it then i wont even bother to mention it lol

Perfectly meaty HP Hayate, when it hits, is good! Lots of damage, and enough time to hit-confirm! A few flaws with perfectly meaty HP Hayate, though:

FA bait.
On block you’re -2, whereas with a meaty MP Oroshi you’re at 0, a meaty s.HK you’re at +5, and a meaty s.MP you’re at +8. That continued pressure is one of the most useful parts about meaties.
MP Oroshi is better in virtually every single way except 10 less damage.

On my search for Adon Technology I found that he can like jump OS ultra 1 and lk and mk srk to catch maks back dash :frowning:
I’m not sure how Adons ultra 1 works with distances so yeah can’t tell if he goes into full animation or not

EX oroshi -> jump attack -> HP hayate works

i was doing Ex oroshi -> stMP x2 (whiff) -> hp hayate …the timing is strange at 1st but it works and if it hits then you get free crLK -> mixup …

Seriously getting tired of characters with good range fast attacks. I feel so helpless if I get knocked down by a balrog, fei, guile, or chun. Stand outside of EX Karakusa range, and ex-oroshi has such a huge window where you can get hit before it becomes active. Feels like all I can do is sit an take it. I never get counter hit half as much as when I play makoto :expressionless:

Any other options that don’t leave you massively open? If I try and IA Tsurugi on wakeup there is a good chance I’ll eat a buffered AA (flash kick, headbutt, SRK, flame kick ect.) and backdash loses a lot of the ground I’ve been working to gain against chars like Guile, but it also gets option selected hard by chars like Balrog or Fei.

First, i was looking for a “presentation” thread in order to introduce myself, but i can’t find one =/
Second, i’m a “not so bad” makoto player, but i’m having a bad time to do the best makoto combo : hp > hayate cancel > MP. It’s kinda of weird, because i can do like 3 out of 5 times the HP hayate cancel crLP or crLK, but the MP is definitively hard to do. Can someone give me advices about this ? is it like “absolutly” needed to masterize this in order to become a “good” makoto player ?

Sure, makoto mirro isn’t funny as hell (i’ve watch your matches vs the mossad man … and a lot of things came to my mind (a lot of missed combos (crLK ex hayate / karakusa U1 …), but i could change chars (i have others “main”) … :slight_smile:

we both missed because of lag (karakusa -> u1, EX hayate -> fukiage, BnB combo, and LOT of hayate in guard :x), not because of makoto mirror. lol.
