AE Matchup Discussion: Evil Ryu, Fei Long, Gen, Gouken, Guile

How is the best method to analyze a poke from a character? I seen Mago doing the normal, then neutral jump and record that.

One thing to notice when dealing with foots is to see the recovery of a particular normal. Regardless if that normal is + on hit or block, if you can make them whiff it how much time do you have to punish it. Simple example. We all know how good fei’s c.MP is. But if you check the data it has the same recovery as his c.LP. So now you know a big reason why he can throw it out whenever he wants and it’s impossible to stop/punish/whatever.

A range of a normal just doesn’t mean you can throw it out and it always wins. There is always a counter. Whether it’s making it whiff or using a faster startup move. There is always an option.

For this particular example i use s.HP to beat fei’s c.MP. But i mean i use s.HP to beat everything. IT BEATS AIR AND GROUND. WHAT DOESN’T IT DO!?!?!?!

IT MADE ME EGGS THIS MORNING!

no joke, I did st.hp CH, st.hp CH, st.hp CH, st.hp CH, dizzy -> kill combo 2 days ago in a ranked match vs. some ryu. He must have felt like an ass

Yes but stand hp can be whiff punished easily by something like Ryu’s sweep or Fei’s rekka, so you can’t use it like a broken poke without your brain i mean.

UNCORRECT

I Lol’d

Guys, can you react reliably against booms with slide? Especially LP version?

I think it’s the only thing that struggle me in this match-up, any advices to practice against that?

for sure you can, but I’d say to realiably react you need to be playing offline

good guiles (and other fireball characters) will stand just outside slide range to bait you and whiff punish though

yes

this is actually one of the few times I suggest playing against the computer if you don’t have a guile to practice against. training mode + cpu and turn the meters off, he’ll throw booms.

I played the matchup like 2 days a week for 6 months and eventually it got pretty simple.

If you can’t slide booms then you are playing online or you are a slow as a pregnant yak.

Lol, yes online really affect things like that, especially for the LP sonic boom, i need to adapt myself consistently to the possible variable delay in each match so, it can be very frustrating.

And i admit my reaction time is not good enough, same issue against Sagat, i need to work that…

Guile/Sagat are different matches online.

Offline I feel comfortable straight up jumping over low tiger shots on reaction and kicking sagat in the face.

I can’t do anything against fei, every button press = rekka or focus :frowning:

You need to use your quick recovering pokes like st.jab, st.strong, and cr.forward vs. fei. You don’t want to throw out slow stuff especially that he can focus dash through.

Safeball keeps him honest by counterhitting focus attacks, stuffing the startup of rekkas with a counterhit, and not allowing him to dash forward on you and bully you.

thanks! I guess I don’t use balls enough, I just feel that the safe ones are so slow that fei long can be in his down back position and really easily dp them with his unique dp input.
Also, is the best punish for a max distance 2nd rekka jab xx ball?

Btw, after a canceled normal, a lp ball is a blockstring or not?

you just want to be careful and learn the ranges. You’ll get dp’d now and then but over time they will go down as you learn the spacing better and learn to condition Fei better.

Best punish? I don’t know but it’s generally the safest though I’ve had jab whiff before. I like sweep!

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. Depends on the range and the character.

Ok thanks, i like to use safeball against him after a blocked cr.mk or st.lp at max range.

Gen can use the dash st. mk or cr.mp to punish the most of the mp hp ex roll * lp roll in far distance.(on block)(It `s hard to do this punishment but -24=19dash+5normal)
And the cr.mk has the higher priority hitbox than thunder * in the middle range.
As I am Gen player feeling the match is 5/5/.

you can safeball vs dash into whatever xx hands.
