I don’t think it’s spacing dependant, i used to just sweep, at any range, then wait long enough so the slide doesn’t hit max meaty, and I never got tagged by cr.lp, all specials whiff leaving you ,assume frame adv and I can’t remember fade backwards but you’re probably safe there too
Well recovery of slide is a little more hittable nowadays.
a max meaty slide is +5, but the even to -2ish range seems to be the safe slide vs. fei.
So post sweep this means you want 28ish frames of activity. Blanka doesn’t have anything that’s quite exact but b.hop is 29 frames, and leaves you at -2, and also at very good spacing vs. fei.
I was able to play at a friends house, couldn’t get that setup to work without being open to cr.lp punish. But my execution is really poor now so I’m sure it works, problem is it leaves you too far from fei. The Beaty of the cr.hk walk forward slide setup was that it leaves you almost point blank (not in throw range) and if fei does cr.lp rekka you can st.hk him to punish after you block it, or if he does 2 rekkas you punish the second with ultra.
can we get more insight in the gen matchup… i played against a guy from france and his gen destroyed me… it’s one of the matchups i have no clue. heck, even my balrog was a pure punchbag
Gen matchup is really straight forward. You just play footsies and try not to get hit by super. There really isn’t a trick to it, but gen is really vulnerable to safejump pressure, and your jumpins do better vs. his aa’s than vice versa.
Was fighting with a fei long’s player, this match-up seems hard but not so disgusting i think.
Blanka can punish easily rekkas with his stand LP and U1 at good range, break ex chicken wing with stand HK or HP Ball/Upballs on reaction, stay at standing fierce’s max range and poke him with it, it will beat all his pokes and his rekka, avoid corner is the most important thing here, if the fei long like to do 2nd rekka (-8), punish it with U1 or cr.mk, don’t use sweep/crouching fierce, privilege fast pokes like stand LP, cr.MK, cr.LP/LK, stand MP and the only effective heavy poke here is standing fierce. And safe jump him (5 frames). Goal is to whiff punish a rekka, a cr.HP, you should pretend to do something, the fei long going to be impatient and he do mistakes and you take advantage here… play footsies, stay strong.
Is it just me, or me playing on the internet, but it seems like Fei Long’s rekka kens are much more difficult to punish with standing jab. Anyone else experience that?
the pushback seems different though, like he is further away after blocked rekka. I could be very wrong, but even in japanese videos i noticed more rekkas and more safe rekkas against blanka
At good range, first rekka is totally safe against Blanka, stand jab would whiff like exupball and stand roundhouse and U1, with the fact Fei can doing a second rekka on block to beat your punish if he guess right, so in most situations, Fei would beat easily Blanka, that’s why i think this match-up is horrible.
Yeah, miles away. It’s like I dreamed of punishing the second Rekka before. Must have been something else. First was safe alright. People are backdashing at lot after rekkas though. That kinda negates OS’ing. Jab xx ball os hop/slide. No thanks. #fingerpoisedonfiercepunch
Go spend like 10 minutes in training mode recording Gen’s buttons and ranges where you hit buttons against them. I’m too lazy to do it myself and give you the results.
I forgot to save my set vs. Yeb I played or else I’d use it as an example.
One thing I use vs. Gen that I don’t really use against other characters much is far hk as a counterpoke.
