Hello guys.
Hmmm, i’m having some seriouse trouble in the cody match up.
I often play against a decent cody player and here is the problem… looks like I can’t approach him at all ! He’s using a lot of s.mk and it kills me like everytimes. When I know he will do that, i try to use st.HP but it doesn’t work so well. I sometimes try to do s.hk os ex mgb to show him that he can’t just abuse me but, if it doesn’t connect he rapes me with he’s godlike c.lk >> big damage/sweep/F.hk ex criminal upper etc. He also loves to use his little slide to kill my far HP and… it just work too well, even on block I can’t punish because of the awful range and hitbox of my moves.
On his wake up he is pretty free cause… well cody sucks when knocked down but I just can’t approach him !
What are your tips in this match up ?

Just started using Dudley, can someone tell me what I’m supposed to do in the Gen matchup? It seems near unwinnable, unless there’s some move(s) or tech I don’t know to be using in that match. Basically can NEVER focus, can’t duck, can’t dash, and for the most part can’t jump…if you walk forward and block he’ll just do something into hands on block and it pushes you right back out.
if he’s buffering vs you, you can buffer vs him… Just know your ranges.
Once you get your spacing down you’ll be able to see how even both of your approaches are.
Watch out for sweep. You can jump just outside his c.HP range (empty jump only)he cant anti air dud effectively from that range.
Gen vs Dud is only hopeless for those who rely on gimmicks and mistakes to do damage. If you can get good footing in this match up there’s hope for you in other match ups.
Alright, guess it’s into training mode to learn what buttons I need to be using and at what ranges.

The rank ~16 (whatever he happens to be at the time, tonight it was 16) Guile on PC joins my lobby pretty frequently when I play at night. I’ve probably played him a couple dozen times now, and holy fuck, I’m losing my mind trying to figure out how to beat this guy. Most Guile players I can open up one way or another with enough patience, but this guy plays so lame and I never get any opportunity to actually pressure him.
It’s just walk back booms, occasionally crouching down doing nothing (waiting to see if I jump so he can EX flash kick, or resume walk back booms if I don’t) and I cannot open him up. The slow sonic booms are -really- slow, and the recovery is so stupid fast I seriously cannot figure out what to do. I’ve thought about it quite a bit, just getting around the booms to get in, and this is pretty much how it goes:
Sonic Boom
A) block, take a little bit of chip and the speed of Guile’s walking backward + the minor knockback of a blocked boom resets the field pretty much.
B) focus and 1] release, which rarely actually hits and I’d have to backdash anyway because of how unsafe level 1 focuses are or 2] dash in which will more than likely end with me eating a normal
C) jump, likely get anti-aired with cr.hp (surprisingly fast)
D) duck, which usually ends in eating the boom + a normal if it’s a slow sonic boom and I didn’t duck far enough or eating a normal
All the cheap shit in this game doesn’t matter a whole lot to me, it can be managed. But a Guile like this is beyond annoying, and all of the thought I’ve put in to beating this boring, braindead tactic makes me feel like I’m playing the wrong character sometimes. It feels like Morrigan in UMvC3, to me. Is Guile the best character in the game? No. Is he incredibly lame and frustrating as fuck? Yes … yes, he is. I could never have imagined the 10-20 frame difference in recovery speeds and 2-8 frame difference in frame advantage on block and hit compared to other character’s fireballs could be so frustratingly good.
How is he getting out of the corner?
if you can ultra through fireballs this matchup is like a billion times easier.
no good guiles will ever make this easy for you. honestly U1 gives you tunnel vision and closes your mind to other ways to get in.
I use U2 to remind me I have to be close to land it. Guile recovery is ridiculous. This matchup is very difficult to me but at least it is predictable.
no, I can walk forward and react to a fireball/long recovery limb with ultra or just a fierce or something else with ex duck and still be ready to anti air. I’m not just sitting there buffering. And if you have them in the corner and you’re chipping away with lp. mgb it’s even easier!

Tunnel vision doesn’t mean you’re sitting there buffering. It means you’re just focused on 1 thing.
if you can ultra guile’s l.boom on pure reactions then more power to you. normal people have to prep themselves for something so delicate.
End of the day, ultra is just icing on the cake for a match up, dud can generally win ultra-less.

playing against feis that use his flame kick are free. feis that dont are a nightmare. feels almost as bad as the bison matchup.
