Dudley gets really stupid damage off a jab and then you still have to deal with his oki. Bison starts his SK rushdown. Ryu combos into knockdown, or into tatsu which pushes you to the corner. I get the feeling Ken is gonna be tougher than Ryu in AE because of his increased combo potential.
yeah this is probably more of a matchup discussion then AE.
i think for AE the matchups that i’m not gonna like is fei for the most part. Balrog is obv annoying but i main him(used to main him) so i get his stuff. Cammy still gonna be tough. Gief gonna be a tad harder. Ken/Ryu a tad harder, but nothing like a giant shift.
no need to bash on Mullah for keepin’ it real. blanka is ass for all the reasons he stated. if electricity had a wider hitbox things would change dramatically enough that blanka would be competitive and no longer rely on ball for combos and he would be safer. as it is, he ended up with a riskier hp and mp ball on block which means you should basically never use it against any character when you’re trying to pressure them into making mistakes because they can all punish it on block. the only thing he had going for him to pressure opponents was his ball and his next to useless hop (which also got worse outside of wakeup situations).
having a combo-able overhead is nice i guess but it has so much startup that it’s only worth using after a knockdown. that’s why it would be amazing if he could link c.hk from one of his normals. like Mullah said, blanka’s pressure game is ass and so far it’s actually worse. i hate how blanka plays less and less like blanka with every new updated sf4. he used to be a mixup god in previous games (sf2 series) and now we’ve settled for such boring ass gameplay. even if his normals got a little better, his mixup is worse and he’s more boring to play.
why is it that i find honda’s headbutts, boxers dash punches, and dictators scissors more annoying than blanka balls but they get to be safe and have frame advantage in some cases yet they remained for the most part un-nerfed?
my favourite matchup is the blanka mirror, provided the connection isn’t crap, i’ll just sit in crouch block and hit him out of every whiffed ball, grab every hop mixup, block any pokes and st.hk any jumps or walk ins. My opponent probably thinks i’m taking the piss but i’m not, provided the connection is good i’ll just sit still and let them kill themselves.
anyway lau seemed to have killed any hopes of cr.lk being improved, shame.
and re: the jump back inbetween a blockstring suggestion, sorry this must be where i would normally shit on a new suggestion? haha i dont think that works my friend
-dash and fierce elec for 3-4 hits of chip every single time. After the chip finishes i back up or sit tight, i’m not scared of blanka at 1.5 character lengths. If they ex upball during the elec i take the hit and slide and push them further towards stun than me, further towards the corner, further towards dying and further towards having no meter.
Once they’re used to that i’ll hop crossup instead.
if they have ultra i’ll crossup hop avoiding the leniant autocorrect and half second retention of charge for reversal ultra by hopping early and fierce elec for 3-4 hits.
sometimes i’ll mix it up with safejump cr.lk (-1 would help here) or naked throw. Thats about it.
scumbag is right, i do advicate really simple strategy actually. don’t get me wrong, i DO use everything you see in flashy blanka vids but sparingly, i will go for the cr.lk hop crossup to ultra stuff but in the above mirror advice you’ll see its nothing flashy, its very safe, and always leaves me with the advatage. I haven’t seen anyone else doing that elec chip strat vs blanka because the reward is so low, but to me 12-16 chip hits of elec adds up to more than the sum of 2-3 failed ‘offensive mixups’ could try to run on my opponent, leaves me with more meter, forces them to waste meter and leaves me with little margin for getting st.hk or grabbed up close if i screw up a frametrap or go for a hop mixup.
i don’t play that matchup often. but i’ve learned that sitting back seems to be the better strat. You can pressure because upball is the only reversal which gets slid. Yes simple strategy is how all matchups work. Spacing and zoning is really what seperates mid vs high level. I think blanka’s ability to zone and space is his greatest asset. His ability to shut down your opponents options and become this wall of green monster that he can’t overcome. Making your opponents only option to foots at the most basic level which can become problematic with blanka’s solid foot game. Of course that’s probably the reason he has such a difficult time with guys who can outfoots him like fei/balrog ARGH fei DAMMIT !!!
If he is being predictable you can tag him with this. My fucking god, if you arent going to read what the fuck I said, dont fucking post. I do this with Vega, Blanka has a jump similar if not like Vega’s.
Hi! The reason everyone is being sarcastic with you is because it sounds like you’re not too sure what you’re talking about. On the defense, you can’t jump back out of a boxer pressure string without getting really hurt for it, unless the boxer is really terrible and missing all of his links, or your only gameplay experience is from Xbox Live/PSN. Regardless of the reason, in a tournament level setting, it does not work with competant players. Please, instead of becoming more aggressive to cover your error, take a minute to learn a bit more about the game as we discuss. It’ll make you a better player, I promise!
Hops: I think fox said it earlier you have to condition your opponent before you can hop effectively. Hopping around on wake up and using meaty attacks to electricity are great and, like mullah mentioned, a good/safe time to use them. I have found alot of success with hopping after cr mk jab. Cr. mk jab jab, cr mk roundhouse, cr mk jab electricity, cr, mk cr. lk jab are combos I use to condition my opponent to expect my next move then when they dont expect a hop (or have finally stopped cr teching) hop reset them to a combo of your choice. Mix hop with dash near your opponent to bait out throws, jabs whatever, then close in…
Offense: How do you get your opponent to stop holding Downback…? good question. Everyone will have a different idea about this. Generally Ill rush them down with normals, bait out a poke, counterpoke, jab electricity loops or jab electricity walk forward and back to bait something out. Depending on the opponent, if they turtled against me and I have the health lead, ill run my ass off to try and break their spirits…
Wake up game: does it suck…? maybe. Blanka doesnt have a good reversal, very true, but not having a free escape option will in turn make a GOOD player BETTER by forcing them reacting to throws and learning to block properly. Blankas backdash is pretty good…
Electricity chip: good strategy. If you jump in deep enough with fierce or roundhouse straight to electricity, and mash reps, depending on the characters hitbox you can get two to four hits of chip. A bit more safe than jab ele, jab ele for chip damage…
@ilitirit: Personally I feel that you have contributed more to the blanka forums in the last 3 months then Mullah in two years…
@Mullah: as far as the last dicussion we had on the forums, your right I havent forgotten it, and from most everything Ive read from you I dont like because it usually sooooooooo damn negative (reference to your earlier link) but if your actually tryin to make fellow blanka players better with solid advice by weighing the PROS and the CONS to said strats, im sure youll feel less “singled out” by me. As far as the posting goes I usually dont post because most of my Ideas and playstyle are contradictory to the conventional blanka style which works for me and not everyone else and never wanted to force feed my ideas down other players throats.
i figured you were still sore over our last argument, i dont know what to say about that except let it go, it’s unhealthy to hold negativity towards someone youve never met over a video game for more than a fleeting moment. None of this is important.
ANYWAYS…
everybody is entitled to what they believe in…
I played seriously over 50 different boxers in hong kong… some better than others…i honestly think I know the boxer match well… and yes it’s a pain in the ass for Blanka and is one of his hardest match ups… imo… against someone who only holds downback all the time and jabs… my way to beat that… is simply fake ball WAYY out of jab range… but within s.HP if he throws out jab i should hit him but if he doesn’t i MIGHT whiff… also… c.HK here works well… other than that… there’s really no much to do… it’s all about footsie and baiting when you’re against someone THIS turtly… might need to add some focus attack in the mixup as well…
it’s not mission impossible… but it is a major disadvantage…
anyways… back to AE
ex rainbow ball… you can practically control it to the point where you go OVER your opponent head… but pull back and hit him back on the same side… the control on it is phenomenon.
i’m gonna play with EX electricity more… i think… the INITIAL hit range increased by a lot… but it might be because my opponent tried to attack at the same time to give me a false impression
